So who was at Four Kings? Fire alarm went off at 90 minutes exactly, everyone had to leave, cue a big crowd on the pavement watching the one TV that everyone could see, and wild scenes when Siggy's header hit the net, while the actual alarm was still ringing and 2 fire engines were parked up in the street!

IT WAS AWESOME.

And...at half time I put $5 on Phoenix at $14.00! O FOR AWESOME DAY.
not to mention the King's kind offer of cheap booze when the building was given the all clear!

Fuck this stupid game

Another stupid foul by Tim cost us a goal.Yes he did score, but my wife would have got that.He had too many touches for a great chance in the second half, which he should have just knocked in.
Paul I could easily get back to his best if he played the simple ball. He is rather predictable at the moment.
I know that Ben will be everyone pick of MOM, but there is a lot more to the game than a goal to earn that.He played very well as FB, but I think that Ward was obe of our best today.
Ricki got if right today with putting on Rojas for Daniel. This bloke is going to be one of the best players in the league.
Back to the red card. Will be very surprised if Dodd does not get off that, as it would rank with one of the worst decisions I have seen.

Classic Leggy. Just one big "harrumph!"
I agree with Leggy (maybe not about Tim Brown though), so make that 1 "harrumphs!"

BTW, props to van Dijk for congratulating Siggy on his goal after the final whistle.
Well quite happy to take the red card considering the worst decisions handed out to us over the course of the season. It's bloody nice to get something go our way...and O'leary had a fairly clear view of the incident. Much better than the tv. how can you be complaining...!

Because it was NOT a red card and he he just a poor ref.
Ward was for me our best player, but he should have got a card for the challenge on the keeper( only a few min after the red card)

Completely out of his depth at this level.
What about the booking of Greenacre when he pointed out the Adelaide keeper was about to take a free kick 10 metres up the park from where it had been given and even the linesman on the far side was standing with his flag out indicating to the ref it wasn;t in the right spot. Wouldn't have surprised me if he'd gone and booked the linesman for dissent as well, absolute muppett.

On another note watched Ward in the warm up banging them in from everywhere during the final shooting drill and thought .... gee he's awesome ... then when it came to game time and he got a chance to shoot (and he had a few in the first half) I thought we were in given what I'd seen and he sprayed them all over the place ffs. Still, he played well. Only one I thought was off the pace today was Lia, touch and passing let him down at crucial times. Muscat was outstanding, and what about those forward charges from Dura? Awesome. Much better game than the fixture against the Roar last time down here.
sounds like you thought siggy was up to it eitha? agree ward looked good finishing pre match

After I read the first line I was about to rip into your post - then I read the rest and realised we completely agreed. O'Leary was truly complete tosh out there today.

Can anyone tell me if Paston celebrated the winner?

I've never seen that man give even a fist pump when we've scored. I remember Reddy going nuts when we scored late last season.

Fantastic result.

yeah, sort of a psuedo jump routine. not very impressive but some marks for attempting.

Just on the red card in isolation, I can see how you give that. Out of his peripheral vision he probably only saw the boot connect with the face as Dodd ran past Lia. He judged the intent wrongly but I see how he does it.

Siggy played ok but is not a classic attacking right back, struggles with the decision to go forward or hang back. He may struggle to get back in the middle of the park as North and Dura combined well today and gave us a much better platform for attacking, a lot less lumping it with Siggy out at right back. When Lochead comes back in he may be destined for the bench, even though he scored a good winner today. I think this was the best side Ricki's put out this season, also helps when the players perform as a team. He also made good tactical decisions as the game went on, dropping to 3 at the back and putting Greenacre out there with 10 to go and Rojas on earlier for Daniel who was mediocre at best.

What's sight without sound? Love without peace? Copulation without conception?

Would love to have been a fly on the wall during Ricki's half time talk, must have really laid in to the team, they were back on the pitch after only about 5 or so minutes and had to wait around for Adelaide to come out. What ever he said, it certainly worked

What a great win...gutted that I did not go to Christchurch. Great to see so many Canterburians with big smiles on their faces after the tough year theyve' had.

14,000 this year, 19,000 last year. Christchurch has proved it has the supporters. Makes you kind of regrest that the All Whites Honduras game did not go to Christchurch....they would have beaten Aucklands miserable 18,000 easily.

My thoughts
We have certainly decided to keep the ball more and pass it to our team instead of lumping it away, so thats very positive. Rojas deserves a start, that kid shows so much flair and potential and is the spark our offense needs.  What was Paston doing trying to punch that one in the first half, didn't come close to the ball? But has started to catch more, maybe heard some of the criticism. I don't like Ifill playing the lone striker, too often he is sucked out wide leaving and empty hole in the middle for him to cross into. And i'm sure the ref will watch a replay today and acknowledge he didn't have the best day (slight understatement). Good crowd, but i doubt that would happen if the nix consistantly played down there. Remember the Nix got big crowds when they started out, and when the novelty factor is there. But I guess they turned out so good on them, and maybe reward them with 2 games next year.
