At least spell the mans name right.

Thought that Lochy had his worst game in a Phoenix shirt - was atrocious. Lia actually improved in the 2nd I thought but still not sure why Manny was suddenly switched into midfield, especially against a team that often plays it down the wing.

Move on, get Dura back and beat Sydney. We'll feel a lot better after that.

Do think that we should have pushed harder to get a couple of Caceres/Dadi-esque re-inforcements in the transfer window. Can tell that our mini-squad is faltering a little.

Bit harsh, was top corner. Past him before he had a chance to react.

In saying that, while I think he had a good game Siggy was immense. Though lets be honest - the only reason it wasn't 4 or 5 by half time is because they had some horrible attempts at finishing.valeo2012-02-18 21:42:18

Greenie tonight looked the most likely player to score ....nice sub Ricky....3 points against Gold Coast should see us make the top 6 safely

Three things i just can't understand:

1 Why Nix always need to concede first to start playing football?
2 Why Paston didn't even try to make a stop for that 1st goal (i think if he tries he might reach it or close to...)?
3 Why sub Greenie off at 60min mark when we were 0-1 down and start showing promising signs?

I think Paston doesn't help himself by not actually diving for those ones. I've seen him do the same thing before, and usually there's no way he would have got it, but he just makes it look so much worse by not even trying.

Like Ifill said a couple of weeks ago, we're not the the CCM/Roar league yet, but so damn disappointing RH and some of the players seem resigned to that.
Siggy and Paston were awesome tonight, and Greenacre being subbed was strange.
However when you look at the Mariners bench, then look at ours tonight - it says everything about where our mini-squad is at.

Ironically I think a positive that will come out of the losses to the Roar and CCM, particularly the manner of the losses, is the shattering of any illusion we may have had that we can foot it with the top squads in the league (remember we were complaining about ACL qualification a week ago). We have a starting 11 that, on their day, can hold their own but lose a player or two and then look at the drop in quality to the replacements. Contrast that with CCM who had 3 away with the Olyroos and one suspended and still owned us.
The other painful lesson over the last couple of weeks is that I don't think our imports are good enough (aside from Ifill) - I suspect that Sanchez and Smith may be close to playing themselves out of contracts - especially Sanchez who has been poor the last 5 or 6 weeks. Admittedly he has been out of position for most of those games but he should still be able to contribute a lot more than he has.

Kudos to Paston who kept the score down to 2 and to SigmUnd who never stopped trying. Please never ever ever play Lia at RB again !!

I still think we can get 4th but Herbert will need to chance his arm next week - we'll get screwed if we sit back and play for a draw against Sydney.

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Have not seen too much anti Ricki so far tonight, but lets be honest the players we have got are not good enough. As simple as that. No pace, poor techinical ability and no football brains.
The problen I've got is that we have signed most of these players for next yeat.

Agree about needing some players with more technical ability and pace, but the off season dramas eliminated any chance of signing those sort of players.  The squad core is fine, but we've been 2 or 3 top quality players short all along. Sadly we have to wait to next off season to fix that.
Playing so many sides below us created false expectations, and a false position at 3. At least the owners know now far behind the 8 ball we are in terms of quality depth.
CCM and Brisbane have awesome squads.

Agree we are not top two quality. But we can foot it with all the other sides on our day. IF we field our first 11 and Rickie gets his tactics/subs right.

I was really surprised that there was no reaction from the bench to what went on in the first 60mins...no reaction, nothing changed, nothing.
We were completely off the pace, CCM were having a field day down the left where it is obvious that lia is not a RB's A-Hole. Manny should have been switched with Lia. Get an experianced player in beside Griffith(who did OK)

Sides have realised that if you shut down Ifill, you shut down much of the Nix's potency.

The key moving on from this will be to get them back how they were playing 3 or 4 games ago. Being beaten by the Roar and CCM is not the end of the world...they are class sides. But if we play many more crap games like this then we are in for a rapid slide down the table.

On a positive....isn't mcClinchy class!!!! So so pleased he is an AW. He should be the first name on Rickies team sheet for the Jamaica game!!

Jeez how did this forum come to be full of so many f*gg*ts? I love it how Ifill does f**k all the whole game and nobody says sh*t, yet the same old usernames are more than happy to run their mouths over everyone else in the squad. It was a collectively sh*t performance tonight from all, and youre all collectively sh*t 'supporters' making this forum look like the biggest sausage fest in town. /rant.

I would like the same answers.  Pasty did the same thing for the first goal v brisbane last week.

It's time to shuffle things up.

No goals in the last 2 games, now we're starting another streak....losing.

A lot of poor performances fron the players and Ricky.
What is alarmimg is the lack of effort by a couple of the players on defence.
Greenacre tries hard but his attemps on goal are poor for our frontman.
As has been mentioned shut Ifill down and we have little going forward, terrible balls in from Bertos. Lochhead and Sanchez.  when a good ball cae in Greenacre has either post open and heads it straight at the keeper.
Poor tactics and a strange substitution from Herbert just when they got some momentum didn't help.

There is a big gap between the top sides and the Nix, BUT with any play-off system to decide the Champions dont write us off.
And all the "experts" had us for the wooden spoon and they can get f**ked.

Aside:
Diabolical pitch, that looks a good chance to host the Grand Final.

PS I dont think the parrot joke racist.  Nothing derogatory about Africans was said.  Our own best player is of African descent anyway.  If the jok e  was Ifill and the parrot said Barbados is that racist? or Manny and Malta or Leo and Wellington??

Garry, the point of that joke is that it inverts the master/servant relationship. You expect the parrot to be owned by the pirate and then are surprised that it's actually the reverse.

The problem is that put in the context of Africa or the Caribbean it becomes basically a joke about slavery.

Anyway, Stevo apologised so enough said.

Re Paston, i think he has a bad habit of NOT TRYING to save a shot when he believes it's unreachable...remember the goals against Adelaide (Djite), Brisbane (Berisha), and last night CCM, he just stood there and watched...it looks so lazy and made their strikers look so freakin awesome...I really like him to dive for those even he might not save any at the end of the day...

Now we need to pick at least a draw against SYD, or our top 4 is at risk..

Yet another bloody frustrating watch.getting bloody hacked off with watching opposition players string together long periods of possession. While we   struggle to get past 4/5 before someone hoofs it downfield/passes it aimlessly into touch or just ;looses possession in another weak attempt at beating a player.

As for our set piece taking   we still cant find someone who can deliver a set piece    on a consistent  basis.Seems very hit and miss and we just dont have anyone who can deliver consistently.FK me do these guys not train this sort of stuff.

I want third place on the table back.  I agree with what you've said above Ballane.  Though I think Daniel is our best ball deliverer.  Siggy said on the audio clip I heard on the radio this morning that "if we don't start playing for each other some of us won't be playing at all" or something to that effect.  We didn't play like a top 3 side, we played like a team new to the A-League.

There are still 15 points up for grabs and we MUST take them all.  Especially at home.  Gold Coast are at the bottom of the table but I wouldn't underestimate them.

I just find it interesting so many people are willing to absolve Paston of any guilt for the first goal - would they have been saying the same thing if that had been Warner?

There were several curious things about the goal - yes, the shot was very well placed, but wasn't fiercely struck, and not as far away from Paston as some here are implying, so at least warranted an attempt to make a save (whether he'd have made it or not, of course, we will never know). But the other curious thing was Paston's footwork - he tried to get into position for a dive, and then seems to have stumbled somehow, I wonder if that terrible pitch had something to do with it? And perhaps the most curious of all, Rogic himself seemed a bit surprised that his shot in went as easily as it did during his post-match interview. It seems that he at least didn't think "no-one's stopping that...".

Anyway, as far as the game - we were simply outclassed, didn't know (and at times were simply not good enough) how to deal with CCM when they pressed us high up the field and kept turning the ball over, and couldn't hope to hold them out forever playing like that. el grapadura2012-02-19 13:42:07

I'm not absolving him.  Think he should have made an attempt to save it.  Would have said the same of Warner if it he'd done the samel. Rojic was laughing when he'd seen it go in. says it all really.  Pasty was good up until that point.

Pasty showed against Italy that he can make some incredible diving saves, he should really be trying to keep that up. It may be the lack of a GK coach that has affected his judgement of shots.
