right, wards now out, as much as id love to see a start for young rojas i dont actually see it happening, so i suggest same line up, with greenacre coming to the front of the strikers and ifill pushing wide.

give bertos another game off because of his injury, make sure hes 100%

bench have : vukovic, rojas, macalister, pavlovich

attacking but we've come to the part of the season where we need goals, and we got a solid defence, we just need to keep the ball out of our net and in theirs

I am at the airport and saw the squad about an hour ago - there was one guy I did not recognise - griffiths??

can confirm musa is on the plane too...

just thinking that it may have been vukovic...the one player I might not recognise. I saw paston, ifill, daniel, hearfield, rojas, musa, lia, muscat, durante, and the mystery man.

they seem to have disappeared for the moment, maybe in the corporate lounge.Steve-O2010-12-09 14:47:02

Possibly Mal Impiombato. Looks young enough to be a player... but isn't one.

Major blow to lose Ward. He's a real good player with more to come. Bertos will come in, and hopefully is refreshed. Downside is that our lineup will be back to more similar to the original template that every other side has worked out. The  Nix, with the change up has introduced the element of surprise. Agree with RH that Rojas should only be used for the last 30.  Nix have never been able to win at home (ChCh) and back it up with a win (often enough). Must be exciting for the players though to know we can pack the stadium in a month or so if we do get some wins back to back. Have criticised Sigmund in the past a lot, but man, this guy punched again so much above his weight in ChCh. Surely has to be inspirational for Nix players who have so much more natural ability and technqiue. Leo ?

careful with those references to Siggy's punching - I'm sure he's a reformed character

I don't know if anyone feels this way - but I don't want to see Hearfield and Daniel starting . . though I don't rekon there's anything else is there?

only other option to hearfield would be musa and thats unlikely

I haven't seen a gold coast shirt the whole time I have been here while I've seen a nix shirt in rebel sports behind all the Gold Coast ones, so I moved it to the front of the rack.

This is a very important game, given what happened in chc.

We need something away.

I would take a point.

Would do anything for 3, though.

Marcos Rojas you young gun.   When I see you, single and free.  No tears, no fears, what I want to be.  One, two, take a look at you.

2-0.  Phoenix.

Treatment table gets a lighter by the day
Tuesday, 7 December 2010

Michael Thwaite

MIRON Bleiberg is hopeful of welcoming back more of his injured warriors this weekend as his side looks to confirm that they are very much back in the title race by recording back-to-back wins when they face Wellington Phoenix at Skilled Park on Saturday evening.

Sundays comfortable 3-0 win against Melbourne Heart snapped Gold Coasts uncharacteristic two-game losing streak, and with the treatment table getting a little lighter United will be full of confidence as they prepare for the visit of Ricki Herbets men.

Phoenix too will be buoyed with self belief after snatching a last minute winner and defeating second-placed Adelaide United in their last outing. The match will the first of three games in eight days for Gold Coast, making the news that influential defender Michael Thwaite and midfield dynamo Zenon Caravella will return, all the more heartening.

Michael Thwaite and Zenon Caravella will definitely be back, said Gold Coast Head Coach Miron Bleiberg.

We are very hopeful that we will also have Glen Moss and Steve Pantelidis available, but we will have to wait and see how they are later in the week, he added.

If Bleibergs hopes come true then only hamstring victim Joel Porter will prevent the United boss from having almost a full strength squad to choose from for what is certain to be a tricky match against the Phoenix.

I say it all the time but every game is a difficult game in this league and we will need to be sharp to get the result we want from the Phoenix this Saturday, Bleiberg said.

They are coming off a win just like us so they will be feeling confident and positive. Its a clash between two winning teams who both have a lot to play for.

There is no compromise for us in respect to the result this week. We need the three points to continue our pursuit of the top two teams and nothing less will do.

Looking back at Sundays confidence-boosting demolition of Melbourne Heart, Bleiberg was reserved in his praise for his side, despite the scoreboard suggesting it was an easy win.

I thought we were clinical and efficient but we can still play a lot better than we did. Although we took hold of the game during the second half, in the first there was little to choose between the two teams.

That game was all about getting the three points and snapping out of our bad run. From here we can concentrate on improving our performance and we will do that by working hard in training and getting our rhythm back.

Once we have all our regular personnel back on board Im sure people will see our performances lift in a natural way.

I would say Simon Elliott to be omitted given he's still in Wellington.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I have no faith in Pav, personally. He doesn't really seem that good.

George Michael would be very pleased.

And we just re-signed him for another 2 years.

Will Thwaite's return put van den Brink onto the bench?

I think Pav is a good player, but I have a feeling that maybe he thinks he's far to good to be playing for the Nix reserves, so in those games he's lazy and doesn't try properly.

A fantastic way to get yourself promoted to the first team lineup!

Exactly.

Even for the first team he does give off the aura as someone who couldn't finish a cheese sandwich.

Admittedly I have no idea what his thinking is, I just personally reckon he has a lot of potential and maybe a bit of an attitude. I've seen him play for the regular Nix and I've seen him play for the Nix reserves, and IMO he wasn't putting his best in for the reserve team.

I spotted Pav at the basin last Saturday, he was having a grand old time shirtless on the bank!  guess he's making use of his spare time.

I saw him play at the team wellington vs nix game, and he looked so pissed to be in the b team, playing their b team.

yeah did we re-sign him for another one or two years?

I think he's possibly more useful as a wider player in a front three rather than a CF. he linked with leo well and beat his man quite well. he needs another goal scorer next to him to help him
