"Stand-up for the Phoenix"...I dread this every game.
I hate it! Stand UP with people doing the 'up' gesture with their arms as they sing completely out of tune! So frustrating. I say we play Go West at halr time so these clowns finally get the tune through their thick heads!

I'd say I'm 98% certain it would be here. They would squeeze in extra seats and boost to 40k(ish) and it would be here.
Yeah, Caketin has had 40,000 for the Lions previously?
SFS had a capacity of 43,000 for the first GF (before it got upgraded).
I think even at 36,000 it is safe to assume that you would host the GF.

Only downside was retard/numpty who didn't understand what 'Stand-up for the Phoenix' means. Probably a rugby-person, but definitely an a-hole.
Maybe he's just an old school Village People fan and thinks "Stand up for the Phoenix" should be sung in the proper f**king tune?

How much does Bluetongue hold?
I would be so pissed off if we didn't get the GF having earned it. Still, long way to go before we need to worry.

You'd think going into season five that we would have nailed this by now though

Who cares though? Everyone does it in a different tune to what was intended originally, who gives a sh*t? It works.

Great game, awesome atmosphere. Best game for Bertos in quite some time. Ifill has a real striker's instinct. Massive. Our back four look are as well-oiled, as, well, a well-oiled machine.

That last bit sounds interesting! Explain?
My son stood up for a few seconds longer than most during the "Stand-up for the Phoenix" right near then end. Guy behind him tugged his scarf and motioned him to sit down. Some verbals ensued. Guy got quite agitated. Whatever meds he was on he either needs more, or less, of them. Unpleasant.
Hey you bastards I'm still here.

FYI, by the time it gets to Aisle 23 there is no tune.
Also I will take some credit - I wore my mostly lucky stripey to the game, and all throughout the game I was yelling at Leo to "give it a go". When he finally did, he beat his marker and put in a lovely cross for Ifill
.
We were joined by our cousins in the 2nd half. Youngest did shirts off at 80.

I doubt there is a risk of this happening, but there is a major difference to a NSW team playing a final in Sydney to us in Aus.
You'd have to think Gillard would be pleased about a Welly final
(even taking into account the exchange rate...) as the FFA takes ALL the profit & brings it back to Aus.

Yeah, but I thought he was still rated higher than Downey (who got on the field) due to all the press he was given during the week, with Ricki talking him up, and Lia wasn't used at all, so why couldn't Lindsay be there instead? He goes from looking at starting, to being dropped out of the match day squad. The kid needs game time!

AND she'll get to come over and watch the game with John Key from the owner's Box and bet a bottle of wine on the result.
We have Black here though.

Snigger.
Perhaps we need to get a popular kiwi band to make a cover of 'Go West' so that the next generation of Kiwi footy fans get to know the tune. Currently it appears the FZ is doing its best to completely erase a fine (and simple) tune from collective memory. HarryHotspur2012-01-29 23:10:00

Didnt the FFA change that last year due to clubs complaining about the lost revenue

I actually know the tune to Go West, but whenever Stand Up For The Phoenix starts I can never for the life of me remember what it is! So I think you could be on to something with that last sentence.

Leo beat a man at pace and whipped in a good cross...one time only, never to be repeated

(Please note this is noted as a bit of a lame joke and I thought he had possibly his best and most effective game in a Nix shirt and played with desire and heart and skill today).

I thought the same thing. Would be nice to see the club benefit from making the finals, and selling out the RoF a few more times.
On the "move the GF" theme, best to note some details on the grounds referred to.
Central Coast home ground "Bluetongue Stadium can hold up to 20,059 spectators"
http://www.bluetonguestadium.com.au/default.aspx?id=15
nib Stadium where Perth play holds in the range of 18-22,000 depending what page you read.
So I think the RoF with potential to fit in 40,000 odd people should be OK for a final.
The talk about moving finals is simply because 20,000 seats is dismal for a grand final.Ard Righ2012-01-29 23:40:57

Going slightly off topic, but couldn't the Glory Boys just move to another ground in Perth?

Glory hosted 3 NSL finals at Subiaco. Interestingly I think they only won one of them.

Hadn't heard anything about the FFA becoming benevolent & sharing the $ to Grand Finalist clubs but that doesn't mean much, I only go by what I read on www.sfcu on this stuff.
They would move to Subiaco & Adelaide would also, you'd think move to their oval.
Corp facilities & bums on seats is #1.
(Jets redeveloped stadium is an interesting one now.)
Haven't forgotten though the anger from a Jets supporter complaining on AM Sports radio talk back about having to get a passport to attend "their" finals match in an Australian Comp over in another country.
It didn't matter that the radio hosts explained those were the rules set out in the comp, as far as he was concerned they should have just changed the rules & Welly should have had to play at a "neutral" venue in Australia like the SFS.
