vs Jets
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Must win game - we need to go out and take the game to the Jets from the get go.

Sigmund in for suspended Durante.

Play 2 strikers - Smeltz + Cov.  Costa on bench to come on for Cov after 45 - 55 mins.

3 attacking midfielders - Bertos, Hearfield and Daniel / Kwasnik - Daniel starts of fit enough to possibly play 65 mins.

Brown or Ferrante infront of back four - other one on bench.

Hearfield / Brown provide backline injury cover.

Coveny. I thought that chapter was well and truly finished.
The only changes will be due to suspensions, with Siggy and probably Johnson coming in for Durante and McKain.

Please don't bring Covs back..

McKain is going to be a huge loss.

Agreed, no McKain leaves a big gap in the defensive mid zone - perhaps Brown will fill the spot? or Johnson, Siggy in for Dura.

I expect Leo and Smeltz will play up front with the 3 attacking midfielders behind them!

Can Brown drop back and do the job?

we will miss McKain. Christie or Johnson?

Happy with that - means attacking midfield of Hearfield, Bertos and Kwasnik.

Brown or Ferrante in front of back 4 with the other on the bench.

Costa must be on the bench if he doesn't start.

If Daniel and one of our young guys dont get a shot this weekend i would love to know why not.Can they really do  any worse than what has been shown so far this season in terms of  attacking play and actually putting shots on goal.Yep i realise we are in 5th place but come on can any of you honestly suggest it has been by using exciting attacking options.

Good call, I'm really keen to see Costa and/or Drapes in the jets game

we need to set out our stall a bit more positively for the jets game..forget coveny and give one of the young guns a go..christ knows they couldnt do any worse than the miserable goal scoring record we have at present...im puzzled as to why daniel does not get a start

I guess it'll be either Costa or Kwasnik. I'd keep Costa, still have not seen one shred of evidence that Kwaz is up to it.

Have you seen any evidence of that from Costa though? Think Kwasnik is much more proven than Costa just yet. I wonder what the thoughts are in regards to Draper? I guess if we lose Sunday we may see him but im suprprised we havn't up to this point

Yes. And even if I didn't, Costa's much younger, and more likely to get there than Kwasnik who just doesn't seem to be there at all.

As for Draper, don't know what to make of him. Haven't seen him play too often, but I saw him twice in the Nix early pre-season games, and Coveny looked better than him on both occasions. Don't know how things progressed since then, but Covs has had time on the field (and did next to nothing with it) and Drapes hasn't even got a chance. So maybe that tells a story in itself.

Must win, really. Sigmund and Dodd in the middle, I suppose. Should be a great partnership! Johnson in?

I'm just trying to find out why people are silly enough to think that now is the time to take a punt on Costa/Draper and find out what they are like. Minor tweaking sure but not throw in rookies because 'it works for Queensland'. Costa was given a crack earlier this year (ok not really a fair and prolonged effort to gauge fully) and didn't do a huge amount and Draper has never been used. These guys are viewed in training daily so it not like they sit on the sidelines doing f**k all. Tommy Oar was watched in the Youth league and his ascent was graduated. If you wanna give those boys a run, then give them the 10-15 at the end of the game to show their wares not 45 or a start.

If we need to wheel out Costa and/or Draper then it really is a Hail Mary pass and I don't think we are in the last minute of the 4th quarter just yet.

and I wouldn't use a spot or two on a very small bench in the hope we are a couple of goals up to try these guys with 4 games left in the season. Season over for these two unless we loss two games badly and we can experiment with the final games.

I'd like to see Siggy come in for Dura (if fit), Brown move to holding mid, Dan on left, Ferrante middle and Hearfield right. Bertos and Smeltz up top.

Agreed. People shouldn't compare young NZ players to young Aussie ones. Young aussie players have years in the VIS/AIS and as a result have much better technical skill (Craig Foster moment..) than an NZ player at a similar age. Now that all A-League teams have a youth team except us that gap between the young NZ football player and the young Aussie football player is widening.

I wonder What Mully, Covs, the young guns and co thihnk about all week. Hope for injuries, suspenseions, stomach bugs... It must be soul destroying tio not even get near the bench every week.

I reckon maybe Plodder will get McKain's role, ahead of Johnno, since he (Plodder) has at least had some recent game time.

Oi Oi Edgecumbe... lets have a clean sheet

Yet, despite this our U-20 beat them in a series only a couple of years ago and they were lucky not to lose to our Olympic side last year.

I'm keen for these boys getting a run but its too critical now. Not time to experiment. I think that Feverish has got the team list sorted.

As for Costa/Drapes/other potential youth signings we need to find an outlet for them because this is giving them no help. Do we try and get them into USA colleges? Pay for them to go and come back to play for us upon graduation? We need to get creative because we are limited in funding, facilities, programmes and the people to be able to get on par with them. It's going to take a lot of time and is going to be a very much up hill battle!
