So if you are well on the way and seeing double

Does that make 7000

Fair estimate. I know a lot of season passes being handed around, so hopefully we'll get 7-10k, it's guna be sunnnnnny!

stunning day expected but with xmas weekend upon us I suspect the hardcore fans will turn up (3500) but the walkin crowd will be away somewhere on the beach. Shame really cos it's looking like a perfect footballing day at the RoF

Is it ever NOT a perfect footballing day at the RoF??

Someone might cut their knee on that...

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

Smith and Daniel will need to step up if Sanchez doesn't play.

Daniel has been stepping RIGHT up of late. All he needs to do is keep doing what he has been doing...

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Now that we know Ward is out, this ^ with Leo in place of Ward.
Extremely unlikely. I have to laugh that each week reading these because pretty much everyone leaves out Brown and usually Bertos when every one knows that there is f**k all chance of that happening. He has always picked them.

I think it'll be one of Sanchez, Smith or Daniel that misses out unless Ricki does something uncharacteristic

No wait I was looking at the rail yard (hard to tell them apart sometimes). The pitch is looking...okay. Hopefully we haven't left anything for the Jest to complain about.

I agree with this statement, however I completely disagree with dropping any of those three if all were fit.

Based on form those three are easily in over Leo and Brown - but yes we know he wont drop them.

So my most optimistic solution to fit all those guys in, would be to move manny to LB, Lia to right, and drop Griffiths.

Means we accomodate all our 'best' available players in the starting 11.

Brown in Leo out in my opinion.

Brown hasn't been great but he has been okay, Leo has been woeful but his 2 great balls so far will keep him in until seasons end.

Oh and Paston in (I wish but won't happen)

I long for the day that Ricky stops having so much faith in certain players

If you think we're on the run.

We are the boys who will stop your little game.
We are the boys who will make you think again.

Cos, who do you think you are kidding Mr Egmond?
If you think the Phoenix's done.

Timmy Brown* goes off to town on the Newcastle Jets
And he comes screaming in the box, he's ready with his head.

DOWNEY MAKES SURPRISE RETURN

Jimmy Downey will make a surprise return on the Wellington Phoenix bench against Newcastle Jets at Westpac Stadium tomorrow night.

Injured in training just days after making his debut as a substitute in the opening Hyundai A-league game against Gold Coast United, Downey was thought to be another week away from full fitness but today was given the all clear to start playing.

Ill have to remember to take my bag to the stadium, the 24-year-old former North Queensland Fury fullback joked.

Downey admitted to being surprised when Phoenix head coach Ricki Herbert told him today he would be involved.

I thought he would want to see me get through a full weeks training before putting me in, Downey said.

I did train all last week but with the team being away in Dunedin and Melbourne Ricki didnt see me.

Downey said the injury came at an inopportune time and he was glad to finally be up and running again.

The pre-season had gone really well and my body felt good and healthy, Downey said,

Then in training after the Gold Coast game I was just running with Lochy (Tony Lochhead) and my heel got jammed in the ground.

It seemed pretty innocuous and the doctors said I should just carry on.

When after four weeks there was no improvement I had a scan and was told I needed a knee operation.

It has been pretty frustrating, especially having to do a lot of work on my own when the lads have been away, but Im feeling really good again and am quietly confident the injury is behind me.

I would like to get 20 or 30 minutes this week if possible, but I am just glad to be back in the mix,

Herbert is delighted to have Downey available again with Lochhead and Paul Ifill both still out with groin injuries and Nicky Ward sidelined this week after being concussed after a clash of heads in Sundays loss to Melbourne Victory.

Wellington Phoenix: Tony Warner, Manny Muscat, Ben SigmUnd, Andrew Durante (captain), Vince Lia, Leo Bertos, Tim Brown, Alex Smith, Daniel, Dani Sanchez, Chris Greenacre. Substitutes: Mark Paston, Brent Griffiths, Mirjan Pavlovic, Jimmy Downey.

From that article above, I get the impression Ricki likes Downey quite a bit.

This surely has to be Daniel's chance to be back in the squad. I personally think the most efficient squad would be:

Lia Siggy Durante Muscat          || Griffiths
     Brown    Smith                      || Ifill
Leo    Sanchez      Daniel            || Pavlovich
        Greenacre

Makes the most of who we have. Biggest risk is Lia to RB, but think he would be better than Griffiths at LB against Brockie (Big Guess).

Means we can fit Smith, Sanchez and Daniel all in there who were our best last week.

I have been advocating dropping Leo and Brown to the bench to shake things up, but now is not the time - we need stability

Think it's a more reflection on having a player free from injury and suspension available rather than Downey's actual footballing ability.

lucky if we win by one. Personally I'm more looking foward to the nixmas song. will be awesome no doubt.

Jets have had played some good games and had good wins. I won't be underestimating them even though the odds are against them.
