This.

Daniel was awesome.
Sanchez was also absolutely superb. He is quality.
Despite Daniel's awesomness I would give my MOM to Smith by a whisker. Maybe... it's that close.

Manny and Vince and Leo and Tim all played bloody well. The back was (mostly) solid, with great comminication, covering etc. Just a shame we leaked 2 from set pieces.

Great to see Greenie get one, and Pav... well... not on for that long but - bang, bang... yeeeeeaaaaahhhhhhh! More of that Pav, more of that please. A great cameo.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.

A very merry way for us to say goodbye to 2011 at home.Daniel dished out presents to all, Dani scored, Greenie dug deep (almost !)Nice Pav, too..two. Cracker result.
Quite santa-sfying all round really...

Improving,,on the up, a work in progress from Italiano and the Nix. Bring on the bathroom bling in '24! COYN!

Ha ha

Timmeh and Siggie could(should?) easily have had a brace each, but today...come on down:

Pav and Sanchez

Daniel has looked bloody good- was easily a standout in preseason and with other players with vision came through well. Be interesting to see how that midfield would go against a stronger team. Be harsh for Smith to go to the bench.

Also - Smith's goal did NOT come when he was a striker- it came after the formation change when he was back into the midfield and dribbled from deep.

occasional mare moments with Lia having to make tackles, but did ok.

The noise at the game tonight was awesome. Listening over in Aisle 12, the crowd really got into it at last.

Daniel, what can I say? 3 assists in one match isn't too bad. That first half was as good as I have seen from the Nix yet. Everyone in the team showed up and looked interested.

An excellent first half that I didn't want to see end. The Jets had the first 10-15 of the second half and that was their effort. Ricki needs to get Manny, Daniel & Alex Smith to sign two year deals!

Thanks Nix for the awesome start to my Christmas. Piney might have some competition for his commentary spot from what I was listening to pre-match

Merry Christmas fellow Nix fans. See you on the 4th. Tonight was the 59th "Home" A League game for the Nix?
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

That was a mirror image of the Tards game in many respects. The Jest weren't actually playing badly (apart from the massively sub-competent Topor-Stanely and the ludicrous bogan Kennedy), but they just weren't clicking and leaving big holes.

Not sure what game you were wathcing, but the Jets were rubbish.Your comments about Kennedy being a bogin sums up why HN pulled the thread about who were the worst supporters in the league.People like you.

Funny I thought they looked pretty good going forward, their baldy number 10 looked a good player, and they caused us more problems at the back than a lot of teams I've seen this season, mind you I think we made it easy for them at both goals and I wish we'd put players on the post at free kicks, especially when your keeper has the reactions of an arthritic sloth...

Still, great atmosphere and we looked fabulous going forward and should have had at least another 2 goals

Very good atmosphere from the 6.4k fans. We moved around a bit (FZ at the start, back to Aisle 23, then over to the other side of the FZ in the second half.

The zone was going mental.

Edit: Nice screen shot of the two tubbies.

Really? You see 3-4 goals coming from our lot?

Big call.

Yes, yes I do. Newcastle are rubbish away from home, and we scored 4 on the xmas game against them last year

lucky if we win by one. Personally I'm more looking foward to the nixmas song. will be awesome no doubt.

Jets have had played some good games and had good wins. I won't be underestimating them even though the odds are against them.

Daniel then Sanchez then Smith ruled that game, which is not to undermine SigmUnd and Durante who were excellent as well.

Ditch your "friend" and move to Wgtn.

If you are already in Wgtn ditch your friend and come to the games.

Merry Nixmas my friend!!!! My first game in the Zone. Was too chicken to bring newbies into the Zone at my first game (vs. Jests in semi-final 2009/2010 - who's your Dadi?), but last night decided to bring along several local families including first timers into the Zone. They absolutely loved it (including one dad who had gone to one previous Nix game outside the Zone and thought the atmosphere stinked) and I'm hoping they will be back after losing their voices last night!!

We're gonna win the league!

Leggy, Steve-O, Auskiwi, Charliec.

All four are negative pricks of the highest order.

Three for me, and two for them.

I thought I'd comment on the people saying "Ricki was forced to play an attacking game". Actually, that's more or less right. One thing we know about Ricki is that he adapts tactics to players not the other way around. He played 3 up front with the AWs because having Killen, Smeltz, Wood and Fallon demanded it. He generally plays a counterattacking game because having a back 4 like Lochhead, Siggy, Dura and Manny demands it. Today we were weak at the back (as we were on Sunday, and the Tards showed that up) but we had attacking midfielders to burn - so he played tactics appropriate for a team with Sanchez, Smith and Daniel in it. It worked a treat. Ricki is a good coach and much more flexible than some give him credit for.

This has been a really sh*t year for Jr.Last night on the way to the game , he said that all he really wanted for Xmas was for the Phoenix to win and for Pav to score."WHy Pav?" " You keep going on how crap you think he is but I don't think he's that bad , Dad"
So both wishes met  and a very happy Jr

Well done boys-great game. Pav , two well taken goals, lad.  Good for you and keep it up.

I still have a big thing against Ricki and why he doesnt use all his subs... We were 5-1 up, we dont have a reserve team, so why not give some of the guys a rest and bring on fresh lads who want to prove themselves

My one small complaint on what was otherwise, a great tactical game from Mr. Herbert

Suggest you read what I said.
Newcastle were poor. I never said we were not good. Any team that concedes 5 goals cannot be that hot.
I could have gone over the top and given 10 out of 10 to all our players. That was pretty obvious. My comments were to the Jets.
Funny how the two negitaves come from Arsenal supporters.

Perhaps I might run into you at the Nix game on the 3rd of January.

Ummm! No!

I have been through most of the posts and no one has said "Ricki was forced to to play an attacking game". A back line of Muscat, Dura, Siggy and Lia is NOT a weak backline.

Rickie is a good coach...defensively probably the best in the A-League and its great to see him employ attacking tactics that suit the playing style of Daniel, Sanchez and co. But we can make further attacking progress. For example there must have been at least 10 or more long balls pumped up to Greenacre and Hypen won everyone of them. Complete waste of time....
Don't mean to be critical after such a great victory but when we play the ball out of the back, are patient and keep it on the deck we play some real nice football.

Agree, there are only three teams that have conceded less goals than the Nix. That is where we do have strenght. As good a back four as anyone at the moment.
