I honestly expected the Roar would beat us....the signs were all there.
What I really can't comprehend is how we don't seem to learn from our previous experiances. The team selections are all over the place....we never let the side settle, there's always too many changes. Combinations can't form if they are not given time.
We played very well for the first hour against Adelaide...probably some of our best football of the season. OK we lost but there were signs that some things were working. In particular Greenie and Pav up front showed signs that they might form a good combo.
So what happens next game? Pav goes completely and Greenie is stuck up front by himself. Then against the Roar we continue to whack long balls up to the shortest striker in the league.....FFS we have tried this tactic 50 times before and IT DOES NOT WORK!!!!
Last night we played Elliot....probably the best ball playing midfielder NZ has produced. And what happened.....as the game wore on he hardly got passed the ball. Even though he played deep it seemed Siggy was given the role of distributing from the back. you could see Elliot screaming for the ball but everything went wide or high over him. Elliot should have been our "go to" player for distribution.
As for the defense.....its a bloody shambles. Individually they are all good players but they are not clicking as a unit. We now have the worst defense in the A-League. Muscat has always been vulnerable against quick wide players, Dura and Siggy seem lost and North looks like he does not want to be here. We are paying to cost for not recruiting proper left and right backs
As I said before we have good players.....we fielded 8 players with international experiance last night. This is not a team of young players learning their trade.
The root of the problem lies with the coaching staff. Its time to work out what style of football we want to play....pick a team to play that style and give them time to work together.
