Fair enough. Siggy is quality, for sure. I just love the heart Dodd has. I'd have him in my team everytime, especially if we have our backs to the wall. Also, he has a pretty good long ball, too.

my opinion of Dodd has really grown this year. I used to rate him really bad, but I think he's a good CB. You can really tell that he tries hard every time. But his touch is shocking for A-League standards. He just can't pass. Long balls are OK, but everytime someone passes it back to him my heart stops for a few seconds. Also, I think that sometimes he drifts away and kinda looses track of what's going on around him.

Siggy has all the things that Dodd lacks. So I'm happy to have both in my team, provided that Dodd is the back-up.

To be fair though, he usually covers up by making a last-ditch block! Against the Mariners when they had those few shots and all the room in the world for the first one, whos back there...Dodd gets his foot in and deflects it away from goal.

Also, I think Siggy lacks the heart that Dodd has, and that gets you a long way in my books. If you're prepared to give everything and work hard for the team- I would rate you higher than someone of slightly more talent but less heart.

But I'd have Dodd and Siggy there with Durante as back up- but Durante has been really solid too. I dont know who I'd drop. Probably Siggy due to his Auckland City days!

Why? Its how I feel. I rate him and all, but I think Dodd has more heart, more commitment. Very rarely do you see Siggy make those last ditch tackles- throwing his body into it- that Dodd does. Just my opinion, like. But Dodd is my cult hero- so maybe I'm being biased? Meh.

Who's going to the game - I'm in Brisbane for Xmas and a few days after - be good to get all the Phoenix fans in the same bay and give the Roar fans some stick - HN has my number - cell is on roaming but may not be back on here before then.

Hearfield will definitely start due to his athletisism.
The match will be won or lost in he midfiled battle!!!
Qld have probably the fittest quickest midfield in the league so Hearfield will help out the other midfielders in that role. A point over there would be good.
It would also be a huge plus for the Phoenix if Craig Moore isnt playing

How did Siggy get injured again? Oh thats right, making a last ditch tackle on Rukavytsa to stop him going one on one with the keeper. Brain, use one.

How did Dodd get suspended? Oh yeah, thats right, making tackles and putting himself about. Christ, I'm not saying I don't rate Siggy, I'm just saying I prefer Dodd because I feel he has a bigger heart.

No, Dodd got suspended for being a meat axe, which is commendable in its own way but is about as subtle Hard News on his way for a pie

A 'bigger heart'? Stupidest thing anyone has ever posted on this forum. Siggy is, imo, a better player than Dodd and ALWAYS gives 100%. So does Dodd, but I think Siggy is still better. He doesn't get caught out very often in 1on1 situations (if ever) but I think Dodd does sometimes. They are probably the 2 players who you would never accuse of not giving their all every game. valeo2008-12-22 17:02:43

siggy plays with more heart than most of the players in the team. he's always tracking back to make goal saving tackles. hell, in the perth game earlier in the season he even took a bycicle kick to the face

aahaahh meat axe. that's a new one, I love it :P

Hearfield is an athlete, I have nothing to say about that. he can run. But jeez, everytime he has the ball and we're going forward, he ALWAYS goes for the corner and isolates himself. That's something you can do when you're leading 1-0 and there's a handful of minutes left.

he doesn't create mich, that's why I'd like to see Covs or even Kwansik having a run (or Costa too). Sure, our second striker needs to defend too, Hearfield doesn't seem to defend much anyway.

I think he's got talent. But in the last couple of weeks he hasn't impressed me much.

I agree that the game will be won/lost in the midfield, so perhaps we should thicken the midfield and play with only Smeltzy up front? Don't really know. Thank goodness I trust Ricky.

All this bickering about who has more heart is a bit pathetic imo. That's not for you to judge. Do you know any of them personally? Have you seen their efforts at training? Can't we just agree that both Sigmund and Dodd are true professionals both willing to put their bodies on the line for the phoenix?

Thanks for at least admitting Dodd gives it all! I will say it again, I am in no way saying I don't rate Siggy, which given the reactions I'm getting you'd think I did! I do. He is a quality player. I just think Dodd is better.

And by the way, you know what I mean when I say a 'bigger heart'. I just dont know how to word it better.

. Agreed, because that is what I think. I just rate Dodd a little higher, but thats a matter of personal opinion.

everyone has their own opinion. and anyway it's not really for us to say. Obviously Ricky rates both players. He kept Dodd on the team after last year (that was a pretty sh*tty one to be honest) and signed the Seamonster. They're both professionals and they're both great players. My opinion is that Siggy should start ahed of Dodd.

But in football there are many variables to be taken into account: bookings, injury and committment. I'm sure that Ricky, who sees both at training every day, always makes the right call.

Anyway, this is the "vs Rooooaaar" thread. Not the " Dodd vs Siggy"  thread.
So let's keep it this way eh.

I'm sorry I sparked this debate. That was not my intention.

I only said that I'd like to see Siggy for Dodd and Daniel/Covs/Kwansik for Hearfield. That's it.

ah, on the same note. Glad to see that Mossy has been ready to step up again and cover for Pasty. They truly are the country's 2 best keepers.

FFS, the guy has played for Australia, maybe you make the Newcastle South U13 team because your Dad knows the coach but you dont make a national side. I agree with Scottishbhoy, thats pretty low and repeating anything said on the Newcastle forum would be like me saying Magaret Mahy wrote it so it must be true

hmmm. At least Craig didn't bet on his own team to lose, but lets not take this thread off topic.

To bring it back, Craig Moore has been cleared for this game after getting good news from the doc -

Great news for Craig, his family, QLD Roar and Australia.

For the Phoenix - not so good.

I'm glad he's cancer-free! good on him. Now we can kick his arse without feeling bad. I'm sure that Craig will raise for the challenge. He's an outstanding defender and a super athlete. Unfortunately he's not the nicest guy out there..but hey let's hope that Smetlzy will ridiculize him a bit!

Oh of course not - that's not what I meant at all, I meant it wasn't good news he was going to be available for this game is all. I would like to think nobody would wish cancer upon him.

Well for Valeo as soon as a player has one bad game he believes they are the worse player in the team etc he doesn't realise one game doesn't make a player. Btw Valeo didn't you see the game where Hearfield alone earnt us 3 points vs Newcastle?

Yeah, Moss was back to his best against the Mariners so hopefully that form continues in this game- which is going to be a big game for us. Seem to remember Covs being boss against Moore in the last game we played them? Or am I well off?

I can't believe that I actually agree with a Man U. fan!! it must be the 1st time ever..let's celebrate.
I like your formation. In the second half Daniel (depending on his ankle) or Ferrante could come out for Covs/Kwasnik and Leo could slot back into the wing.

Yeah I probably shouldn't of said that in retrospect.

But seriously, go back to bleating on about that Celtic defender. It was hilarious the 100th time you did it. Why did you get unbanned? You never contribute anything anyway.
