Ward definitely got a yellow card for a challenge on Casey Wehrman in the 68th minute, which was also when Tim Brown picked up his first yellow for kicking the ball away/time wasting.

Absolutely appalling decisions, Wards tackle was definitely not a red, perhaps not even a yellow.

There is no chance Tim Brown will be available next week, FFA rules arn't on our side with this one. Ward got a straight red for being the last player, which he was clearly not, and therefore an appeal for an 'Obvious Error' will be upheld.

Pedant mode on
It would have been for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity to a player moving toward's the goal. There is no mention in the laws of the game of the 'last man' concept. Obviously, if you are the last man that increases the chances of it being an obvious goalscoring opportunity but you don't get dismissed for a foul just because you are the last man.
Pedant mode off

Still definitely an obvious error for a straight red.

For the Tim Brown one, I'm hoping that change to yellow cards the FFA made as a result of the nut-punching incident goes both ways? At the time, Griffiths escaped further punishment because he got a yellow and the incident was thus deemed to have been dealt with and the FFA could not levy further punishment because the incident was more serious than the ref apparently saw (striking an official does not just get you a yellow, obviously).

The question is: when the FFA changed their disciplinary rules the following season, did they also allow provision for disputing obviously incorrect yellows? (Obviously incorrect because 3 seconds cannot sensibly be said to be timewasting when keepers are allowed 6 seconds.) I'm not confident, but will common sense apply?

Im not sure if Smith could start this game?

He seems like an attacking midfielder/ striker, so don't know if he could fit into the side with sanchez ang greenacre? Unless RH wants to drop him deeper like he did with Ward

Any Yellow Fever travelling to Perth are advise to take their boots & shinpads and to check-in with Ricki on arrival... Rojas might not be the last YF-supplied player to don the stripes!

Does Muscat have to right back? I though Lindsay, Tsattalios and Downey could all play there?
Trying to weigh which is preferable to have more exposed...
Any where where muscat is will be sweet cos he's a machine.
How skeptical should we be of those other three?

Let's look at it another way.  In midfield they have a clogging donkey in Burns. Wide they have a tricky Brazilian in Adrezinho.

Which one do we need the better player covering?

Brilliant that's what I wanted to know. So Muscat at RB and   Lindsay in defensive mid getting abused by burns, that w**ker. And Daniel Sanchez Leo to make up mid field with Lindsay and Greenie with Smtih upfront?
And what ever is left on the bench?

What chance is there of a timely injury replacement before the game? Is Paul Reid worthwhile? better than Lia?

Any hope of getting Timmeh's second yellow wiped?

WARD RED CARD RESCINDED
Wellington Phoenix midfielder Nicky Ward has been cleared to play against Perth on Sunday.
Ward was shown a straight red card by referee Matt Gillett in the closing stages of the Phoenix 2-0 win over Newcastle Jets on Sunday, ruling that the player had fouled to prevent a clear scoring opportunity.
The Phoenix appealed, believing the referee had made an error in that there were other defenders between the Jets player and the goal.
The Hyundai A-League match review panel met in Sydney today and upheld the clubs appeal. The red card was rescinded leaving Ward free to play against Perth.
Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert said he was pleased for the player and the club.
There will be no further comment from the club on the matter.

The silver lining on the dark cloud (injuries and suspension(s) ?) is that formations and players that probably wouldn't normally have a shot get a chance.

I thought our formation and line-up worked bloody well yesterday - hopefully it gave Ricki confidence that you don't need to play two specialist DMs, there are other possibilities.

If Downey, Smith or Tsattalios get some decent game time this weekend then I hope they grab the opportunity - with a depleted team away to Perth we really have nothing to lose and everything to gain. If some of our new players prove themselves and push for a regular spot in the match day 15 then that would be good result.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

Unable to appeal Tm Brown's yellow due to A-League rules.

If we are to really scrape the barrel for positives out of this its probably good that it's happened with an away trip to Perth this week where its a tough job to come away with points even with a full strength line up.

It's out of situations like this that we discover hidden talents and new young guns. If even one out of Downey, Smith or Tsatttlliiiooos grab their opportunity to shine then we can take something posiive out of it and the team will be stronger for it in the long run.

Was pleased to hear that, am not pleased that it seems as though the ref is not punished..

Unless they do something to him privately...

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

We should actually be thanking the ref - if he gave a yellow there like he should have we would not of been able to appeal it and would certainly be missing Ward this weekend!

Good to see the club's appeal upheld. It's utter BS that Brown can't even appeal though.

Next week I will record every other A-League game and will write to the FFA in regard to each single episode where a player holds the ball in his hands for 4 sec or more before a throw in and doesn't get a yellow. Fun times.

Its the worlds most geographically challenged rivalry.

It's an odd one isn't it as Perth and Adelaide do have a bit of a rivalry with reasonable number crossing the Nullabor and we seem to get out biggest crowds to Sydney and they send good numbers here so I'd have thought you would swap those fixtures to end up with more of a 'rivalry' feeling.

Set the alarm for 9:30 pm.  Watch the first 30 mins of egg ball and then wake up, turn off the alarm and switch over to see the Nix.

Adelaide sent about 7-8 for round 1...

Its the Perth fans who send 50-60 to our games there and its more to do with Adelaide being a close, cheap city to travel too than any intense rivalry.

I wouldn't say the Adelaide-Sydney rivalry is as strong as it used to be in the first few seasons of the A-League either.
