Loved how we played today. Leo back to almost his best, ACTUALLY going forward! Amazing what Ifill can do. And that goal from Brown great vision and courage to give it a crack. Well done boys, I hope crowds start coming back, this team deserves more, they have their hearts in it and that is great to see.

The reason Bertos looked so good. Is because Sydney have a rather slow team

And Bertos has more than Greenacre to aim at with Ifill back...

in his defense, the defender had the one side supposedly completely covered - its just that somehow is managed to go through him

Warner should have been off his line quicker closing the boy down before he got any kind of shot away.

Thought Lia was immense today and glad to have him back in the middle of the park.

As I've said many times.....

We are the Mighty Phoenix! We can beat Anyone!

Great performance boys, our season has now started. Could've done with Danny Sanchez....when he's back the others had better look out...

Great effort from the boys. Best game from Lia for a long time, Lochead excellent first half, Ifill Magnificent, adds that X factor.
Biggest disappointment....piss poor crowd , good weather (although it did get colder through the game) would have expected much greater walk up crowd. C'mon Wgtn, farkin fire up! At this rate we will be hosting more games outside the cake tin!

Very true~ we are now looking very sharp, would be even better with Sanchez and Ifill both on the park.

Problem now is who would Sanchez replace when he returns??  Ward maybe?  But given Ifill now plays higher up the park Ward and Bertos seem safe at L & R wings...mmmm...or maybe Greenie?

Why would you bring in Sanchez? What we put on the park just worked. Whats the saying about fixing someting thats not broken?

A fine win to the phoenix and obviously great play all round - Warner too. Sad to see Manny got a card and now out next Sun vs Melb Heart. Herbert must've had words with the team about discipline as we have settled down on the cards front, something urgently needed. Though we could have picked up more cards last night, cringe

agree with JV about not fixing what isn't broken, but imo it won't do any harm to have a valid attacking option like sanchez on the bench pushing for a place or providing an extra option. it's been a while since we've had that luxury

So Greenacre can have a rest and concentrate more on forwards coaching, now we have some fit forwards? Greeny was pretty much playing behind Iffy and I don't see why Sanchez couldn't do exactly the same job.

Also, Pasty deserves another shot around now.

Was a great win.

Just hope that all of the people who were going on and on about us being defensive can see that we were forced into playing like that because our best player/players were out.

This also showed that we're not far away from being a very good team. I've always know we've had the core - we just need strength in depth which we're sorely lacking with numptys like TattsLotto and Downey in the squad.

Exactly. This pic doesn't show what went on previously either. The ball went over the top to Cazarine so Warner moved to the right as that was the more likely spot to shoot since the defender was there. When Cazarine scuffed it everyone was wrong footed. There's no comeback when you are off balance.
Jesus people are tough and the man love for Paston, who has a habit of standing still when a ball is too tough is odd. Warner has at least had a crack at stopping everything coming his way and made a good fist of the majority.
These same people would complain that Reddy should have stopped the lob if he was playing for us.

I'm prepared to give Warner the benefit of the doubt for yesterday's goal. It was a soft goal but the ball came through Lochhead so he would have been a bit unsighted,  and when the shot was scuffed it probably wriong footed him more.

When he starts getting lobbed from 45 yards, I'll be more critical.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Yeah, maybe that's true, but he was having a run at defenders which is what he hasn't been doing for a very long time. I think he looked more dangerous in the first 20 minutes yesterday than he has for the past 2 seasons.

Hopefully, it'll give him some confidence

The confusion comes from the two yellow cards resulting in a red card against Perth. These two cards don't get counted towards his yellow card tally, as he has already served a suspension for them, so he is only on 3 cards for the season, not 5. Am I right LF1?

The one which has "Sydney's Terry McFlynn reacts to Phoenix's Paul Ifill."

Rather tame.

Re Tim being Po - at least it's not aimed at the keeper's body and the lino is looking straight at it.

Tim Brown was fast as lightning. In fact, it was a little bit frightening, but he had expert timing.

Ok, a few points..

1) Warner is standing where I would expect a keeper to stand if there was a 5 man wall blocking the fever side of goal.  Not one person.  There was always gonna be a good chance of the ball going to his right.  I doubt you'd find one keeper that would suggest his positioning is good.

2) Why should be off balance?  The shot wasn't deflected, and the build up play was slowish.  he had plenty of time to set himself.  No excuse.

3) It's not the first time Warner has been found wanting.  First goal against CCM springs to mind, and he could have done better against Adelaide (his effort to make himself big occured after the ball was past him).
