Why would you bring in Sanchez?

So Greenacre can have a rest and concentrate more on forwards coaching, now we have some fit forwards? Greeny was pretty much playing behind Iffy and I don't see why Sanchez couldn't do exactly the same job.

Also, Pasty deserves another shot around now.

Would you be saying the same thing if Greenacre's excellent volley from ground level had gone in?

Also Terrifc layoff for Ifill  who blazed over the bar early in second half

Thanks and exactly. Give poor Greeny's little legs a rest. Pav did very well too after so long, and I'm still a big Nicky Ward fan- he's millimetres away from being a great player. I hope Ricki sticks with him....

Exactly. This pic doesn't show what went on previously either. The ball went over the top to Cazarine so Warner moved to the right as that was the more likely spot to shoot since the defender was there. When Cazarine scuffed it everyone was wrong footed. There's no comeback when you are off balance.
Jesus people are tough and the man love for Paston, who has a habit of standing still when a ball is too tough is odd. Warner has at least had a crack at stopping everything coming his way and made a good fist of the majority.
These same people would complain that Reddy should have stopped the lob if he was playing for us.
Ok, a few points..

1) Warner is standing where I would expect a keeper to stand if there was a 5 man wall blocking the fever side of goal.  Not one person.  There was always gonna be a good chance of the ball going to his right.  I doubt you'd find one keeper that would suggest his positioning is good.

2) Why should be off balance?  The shot wasn't deflected, and the build up play was slowish.  he had plenty of time to set himself.  No excuse.

3) It's not the first time Warner has been found wanting.  First goal against CCM springs to mind, and he could have done better against Adelaide (his effort to make himself big occured after the ball was past him).
I'm just watching it again and i reckon it takes a deflection off  lochy's thigh there's two noises. Carzine kicking the ball then the deflection.
you being a keeper must've been in similar situations where your watching the ball and where it's going to go,Only for the deflection to leave you stranded.it's happened to me and plenty of others too

Not. He's on three yellows. Discussed above.

Just making sure as there didn't seem to be any confirmation of it.

Loved how we played today. Leo back to almost his best, ACTUALLY going forward! Amazing what Ifill can do. And that goal from Brown great vision and courage to give it a crack. Well done boys, I hope crowds start coming back, this team deserves more, they have their hearts in it and that is great to see.

4-4-2 (with Ifill as one of the two upfront)had their midfield on the back foot because neither of their centre-backs could push into mid-field from time to time to create an extra man (unlike dura and later Siggy for us)

in the 1st half in particular we had more than 1 option ahead of the lad with the ball - some nice diagonal balls kept them shifting their shape

and Lochy (and later on Manny) supported their winger

well - that's how I remember it - much watch the recording to check it out again

STILL BUZZING! :)

I thoroughly enjoyed the game - we absolutely deserved the 3 points but that was a long last 5 minutes and my heart missed a beat when, near the end, a push / nudge in the back, in the box, saw one of the Sydney players go down / fall over.

Plenty of +ves;

Ifill is still a class above just about anyone else in the league and, not surprisingly, we are a very different team when he is on the park. Must say that Carle looked pretty useful as well.

Brown drives me insane - he goes awol for 89 minutes then a moment of inspiration.

Leo looked much more like the Leo of old than he has any other game this season.

Dura and SigmUnd have really developed in to a very good combination.

Ward has so much ability but he is usually less  than committed defensively - yesterday he put in plenty of hard yards on defense - more than did his share.

Lochhead bounced back from a sh*t game last week in style - his pass to Ifill for the goal would just about be the ball of the season so far.

Hopefully onwards and upwards from here !

He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

They might've complained about his clearance leading to Carle being "relieved" of the ball as is being argued on the SFC forum.

Ah, 'strayan football fans bringing the lols.

Because Carle is now, and always has been, a lightweight it's Reddy's fault he can't hold a ball.

OK...I agree, I was a little tough on Warner. He is not usless. But I also think he is no better than Paston. As a kiwi supporter I think that if there is not much between two players then the kiwi gets the job. Paston started the season no1...was brillant pre injury. IMO he should be still no1.

Great to see players like Lia and Leo step up. There is no better way to answer criticism than out on the park. Well done guys.

Good also to see Pav out there. He looked more focused and more direct. He now is an option to give poor Greenie some rest. Greenie has been outstanding so far, his on the ball stuff is superb and that shot on the turn was world class. But IMO his battery looks a little run down, I think he is feeling the huge work load. He still can contribute on the field but his real value to the club will be as the attacking coach.

I've been reflecting on the game... I am stoked with the win too.

BUT, half time felt very much like half time vs. the Victory. We were playing all the football, we were all over them like a bd suit... BUT we were only 1 - 0 up. Our lack of putting the ball into the back of the net from the plethora of chances we are creating is STILL there... it might not have cost us against Sydney, but...

...It did cost us in the end versus the Victory. It cost us versus the Glory...

If we had 6 more points right now from those two games we'd be second, and we'd all be dilerious. (not Deloras).

I know the squad was (back then) limited through injury/suspensions etc. And I know that players coming back ( a ) are making a difference, and ( b ) sometimes need a bit of time to get fully up to match speed...

So, on the positive side, while we might actually be tied for 7th (or second-to-last, depending on how you look at it), we're not a long way off being 2nd. That's good.

BUT on the negative side we REALLY need to start banging in the goals from the great chances we are creating. If we start doing that look out everyone else.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Phoenix fans. We have to win them over one fan at a time.
