Greenie needs the ball in the box to score to bad we're to sh*t to give it to him there.

He was delivered a perfectly good ball last weekend by Pav unfortunately he was waiting on a bus somewhere and didn't arrive in the "box" until it was far to late! much to the consternation of the ball crosser!

This is great isn't it. We have a hard working pro striker - he is not in position ONCE and his head is being called for! Smeltz used to be missing in action at least 3 times a game. Sure he knocked in some goals too - but many a cross was unattended on his watch. It's an irrelevant critisism this one.

Greenie has a role and it is much broader than "scoring goals". Lets not be so short sited on this.

For me the issue this season since preseason ended has been getting more out of the other striker - and its early days on that front.

I dare say Smeltz scored a few more goals for the Phoenix than Greenacre.

Yes - agreed - as I stated. But he had a different role. My point is the critisism of Greenie is unjust.

Correct. Aloisi on commentary even commented that Greenacre was just jogging on the edge of the box whereas he should've been bursting a gut to get on the end of it.

Ross the prolific striker

I actually did LOL when I read that.

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Out of all the players in the Phoenix, I must say, I have never had a rough patch with Greenie...

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

For me its because we can always rely on him to be working hard, and hitting the target the majority of the time when he gets the opportunities.
My main issue is that for whatever reason those opportunities can be fairly few and far between. We need him in and around the penalty box as much as possible, playing just off the shoulder of Big Mac. At the moment hes finding himself continously tracking back to act as an outlet through the center for our struggling central midfield, who are tending to decide hoofing it thorugh to Big Man is the best option, leaving greenacre in no-mans land.

Love the man and see no reason to drop him, we need to adjust our play a bit to bring him more into the game inside of the penalty box.

Just saying..

I think Reddy deserves an applause when he keeps at the Fever end or something. Either way, shouldn't be booed.

Striker or not, he was right.

And robman - I seem to recall Smeltz burying a number of crosses, MANY more than Greenacre. Getting on the end of crosses does not seem to be Greenacre's bag. I remember that header v Brisbane last year...don't remember many other goals like that from him?

Reddy was great for us last season and a big part of why we went as far as we did.

Whilst hoping he has a sh*t game I would like to see him given a warm welcome back.

And......?!

Read my entry again. For those that need things repeated 3 times: The critisism of Greenie on that point is not a valid one as others are guilty of the same thing. He adds different value so don't judge him on one item, and one common item, alone.

My view is that Greenie made a very good run, late into the box and was essentially unmarked on and around the penalty spot. If the ball had of been pulled back to him instead of being drilled into the six yard box with 3 or four perth players around he would have had a very good shooting oppotunity.

Wellington and Sydney seek form turnaround
NZPA - September 10, 2010, 1:31 pm

NZPA

Just six months ago Wellington Phoenix and Sydney FC were the form teams in soccer's A-League as they headed into a preliminary final.

Sydney won the match 4-2 at home and went on to win the A-League, while Wellington reflected on easily the best of their three seasons in the competition.

How times have changed.

It could be argued both teams have improved their squads, yet they head into a round six match in Wellington tomorrow night with just one win between them from nine matches.

Their respective coaching staff will not be panicking just five rounds into a 30-match regular season -- and in a league where a couple of wins can catapult a team up the standings -- but they do have cause for concern.

Sydney's troubles have been widespread but most notably they are struggling to find any attacking rhythm without their injured playmaker, Alex Brosque, and the retired Steve Corica.

Their two-draw, three-loss record has them in bottom spot after five rounds and complicating matters is that marquee signing Nicky Carle is at long odds to play tomorrow.

Wellington, eighth with a win and draw from four matches, have struck problems on the road again, losing matches in Brisbane and Perth without firing the shots they have done at home during a 21-match unbeaten run in Wellington.

New signing Nick Ward could provide the missing link in the middle of the park and is expected to start tomorrow, possibly alongside the out-of-sorts Tim Brown, who may get a reprieve with Vince Lia in doubt due to a hamstring strain.

Lia and goalkeeper Mark Paston, who has a neck injury, did not train today although both players will be given until tomorrow to prove their fitness. Danny Vukovic would replace Paston.

Maltese defender Manny Muscat returns from international duty and is expected to regain his spot at right back in place of Troy Hearfield, while Australian centre back Jade North's arrival has been delayed.

He was to join his new teammates today but his flight from into Sydney from Europe was diverted to Melbourne due to fog, and he missed the connecting flight to Wellington.

He is now scheduled to arrive at midnight tonight and it would be a surprise if he played tomorrow.

Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert signalled there could be changes up front, with Mirjan Pavlovic pushing the likes of Chris Greenacre and Dylan Macallister.

Herbert, who said he would play a 4-3-3 formation, must also decide whether to bring first-team regular Leo Bertos back after dropping him for last week's 1-2 loss in Perth or retain Daniel, who impressed in his first start of the season last week.

"The players just need to relax and at the end of the day I will make the calls that need to be made," said Herbert, who felt the Phoenix were not far away from returning to form.

"It's individual things that need tidying up, as opposed to a whole lot of things."

The Phoenix, who lost all four matches against Sydney last season, were unsure what to make of the defending champions' poor start to the season.

"We've been in that position ourselves and sometimes you can be up for it," Herbert said.

"If they get their act together they will be extremely tough, but we'll back ourselves at home." ]
