why would you get rid of vukovic? he's been more than capable between the sticks......agree with most of the others......

Just the fact that if we look to keep both having either Paston or Vukovic on the bench is really a waste of $ as both are good keepers. I would think that Paston has lower market value as he would count as a foreigner to Oz clubs and should therefore be cheaper than Vukovic, really the only reason I have picked Paston over Vukovic. I wouldn't mind either staying, just think it makes sense to only have 1 of the 2.

fiar enough, but if we get rid of crowther - which I support btw, who do we have as our back up keeper?

I can't see Vukovic wanting to stay with us, even if he was starting, I'm sure he'd probably prefer playing in Australia. Jade North is probably in the same boat, he's a much better player than Siggy, but I can't say I'd pick him over Durante for the Socceroos. In fact Jon McKain is the better player IMO. Tim Brown won't go, but he is playing very poor. Just can't see Ricki wanting to get rid of him. Agree on a wing back, Andre Killian anyone? I say we look around Scandinavia for a striker, seems untouched in terms of in the A-League.

Why not some young Kiwi goalkeeper? Like a Coey Turipa or the like?

With all this talk of who to release.. i bet people are not so confused as to why only 1 year contracts were signed with some of the new guys.

Diego anyone?

So has anyone stuck a contract under Franny Jeffers nose while he's in Newy?... I picked him up for us in FM and he killed the league!

Turipa has trained with the Phoenix on many occasions, I'm sure he's on the radar. But remember we did have Jacob Spoonley on the books in season one.

Turipa as a back-up A-league keeper? Seriously?

Diego's the only player I think is a definate to leave at the end of the season.
You know we belong together...

I'm still not convinced by all this North-bashing.

I mean, the guy is very experienced not only at a-league but at international level, he's won a championship before with the same defensive partner he's currently with, and he's still only been here a few weeks.

Admittedly, I'm going on reputation here, but he seems like a pretty high calibre player, I mean, we're talking about the A-league here.

I don't understand benching him for someone like Hearfield and I sure as hell don't understand why we would just let a player like that walk away.

Imo if Ricki can't find a place for him to fit in the starting 11 it says a bit about his coaching, not just North's form. To be fair, North has been average thus far, but I think someone should be asking questions of both him and Ricki.

Right. Rant over

Durante was also gash when he first came here.  Hopefully it doesn't takes North a whole year to sort his sh*t out.

Good point 2nd - the same things were being said about Dura his first season with us and now he's quite easily our best defender and probably close to the best in the league.

Anyone else just watch that piece on the TV1 sport section? Elliotttt at phoenix training and Ricki being vague but saying that they 'never closed the door on a player like Simon'.

Also Toto got a knee injury...

We've got Elliottt for sure. Ricki has deflected a lot of comments about him in the past, but now he all but confirmed it.

So when's the announcement? Monday morning, 10am? Sounds like they're just finalising the guest stint details.

^^Half way through. Supposedly the 'worst kept secret' in nz football, yet there's been almost nothing about it on here.

Get your blinkers off - next to Brockie he was one of our best both games. Certainly better than Tim.

I don't see the harm in signing him on a one season deal.valeo2010-10-30 19:31:07

Elliottt is basically a better Lia so I hope it's true.

Just go back to the more stable 4-3-3 of last season, with Elliott in midfield while Muscat is filling in at LB.  Decide on form once Lochy is match fit.

Be gold to have a bit more action in midfield. Sure Elliott will be heading off to the glue factory pretty soon but for now we can get a lot out of him!!

Elliott had a great world cup but I don't think he is what the Phoenix need. Surely It would make more sense to sign Clapham Ive watched him plenty of times in NZFC and he can make some players look very average. I enjoy watching Phoenix but Id love to see a creative Clapham playing in midfield. Maybe even a Roy Krishna up front.

I think Elliottt will be good, but I agree with you about Clapham too, I thought he did quite well against Paraguay when he was subbed on
