My new favourite:

"I agree mulligan would be good"

I think credit goes to Bluemagic or one of the Auckland trolls who stated that as they were supporting Auckland City they were at the 'Coalface' of New Zealand football unlike us in our Australian ivory towers.

We liked it so kept it on.

Tevez is an option it seems. We'd never leave him on the bench.

Wonder if he could have a personality transplant first though! Mind you always thought Reddy was an arsehole before he came here!

Your call that Smeltzy would be our fourth-choice striker before season 1 kicked off is my personal favourite.

Some other gems from V.1.0:

"Adelaide papers saying Joel Porter to be confirmed as signing for us today..."

"SB do you actually like Bobo Balde or is it a joke? seems a wierd player to idolise"
"Leilei G** is mean as!"

"we dont need a marquee, fat load of good the last one did us"

To be fair, G** wasn't a bad footballer at all. He was just mental.

I want a signing!!

Something to get excited about, a player to google for highlights... something, anything i'd even settle for the inevitable Cory signing on as one of our u20 players to help get me through.

Longest off season ever!!

From a 442 blog (Julia de Meyrick):
Last week the A-League officially entered the Guinness Book of Records for having the longest off-season of any domestic football competition.  In the same week, The Sydney Morning Herald revealed the results of a survey showing Australians were a nation of "depressed, overweight people in denial about their excess alcohol consumption."

Its quite rare for new signings to be announced on weekends but if you're right I won't be complaining. Earlier would be even better.

Did someone mention James Beattie today?

Reason I say what I said above is, is because the club usually releases news on player moment on the weekend.

Mehmet was a Sunday night as was Panty. I think Maeco might of been as well.

But do you not think that that tactic employed by the club as a preemptive strike to try and counteract the negative news reports that we would usually recieve on Mondays in the media?

If they were trying to counteract the -tive press then why not hold big press conferences with free donkey rides and falling down sponsorship boards?

Mhm, we'll wait and see I guess.

I just signed him on FM11, is it a sign?

Announcing a signing this Sunday night? The same day one eggball team should romp home at the expense of small fry in Wellington, and another eggball team is playing in a Grand Final across the pond?

Has anyone seriously considered how much space these two events alone are going to take up in Monday's papers, spesh if the Grand Final contenders win?

Save any such announcements for Monday next week, 'cause sure as eggs there ain't going to be much space for non-eggball sports to get a mention in any of the papers on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, much though it pains me to say it.

Marco Rojas broke his leg on FM11 for me today, out for 6 months. Is this a sign?

well we can expect to have 3 + signings in the next 10 days.

Maybe some injury replacements too?

Permalink Permalink
over 14 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
anyone know the form of wide attacking players in NZ who could come in as injury cover for Pants? i remember Lovemore played a nice cameo against Sydney....last year??? At least he has a bit of pace and he's trained with the team.....but he seems well off the radar now so who knows.

9 days to fill up the roster....Ok you can blame the crap off season but we do tend to have a tendancy to sign players very late....Toto, Chen etc

Maybe we are trying to save money by flying the new recruits directly from Europe to the Gold Coast for the first game. The lads can learn who the new guys are from the ground announcer. This is all very unprofessional.

This may sound a bit off, but there have been some young players move to wellington that have previously played for waitakere the likes of Dakota and jack are among them who are signing for team Wellington. Maybe they have been told to relocate and would be amongst the training with the Phoenix?

Branch also signed for TeeDubs this morn-I thought for a second the Nix had signed him.

Your concepts could be quite correct
