When presented with identical offers (or so we were told) he chose Cold Ghost because it was back home for his wife. He then goes off to Turkey or wherever and comes back (presumably cause her indoors was not happy or some other strgange reason) and then goes to Perth and ...you guessed it... its mentioned he might leave again. What are the odds that the missus is not happy in Perth?

I reckone he'll go to Adelaide.

Rundle Mall has great shopping.....

Whoops. Yes. Its hard keeping up with what she does and doesn't like. Apologies Mrs Smeltz for not crediting the China fiasco to you as well.

Who HASN'T he played for. Yet.

Wonder if Mr and Mrs Smeltz live in a motorhome to save all the hassles of moving house every 6 months.

Well keeping the wife happy seems to help him score frequently

I thought that article suggested he might be looking for a new club because the Perth Glory might fold if Sage walks out.And I can't see the A-League allowing the Glory to fold.

Sage has also been quoted this morning as saying it was said in the heat of the moment and he will be around for a while yet.

Love to see Rowe and Lucas in the Nix under 20 quota next season to join Lindsay. IMO the Nix youth should always be 100% kiwi unless there is clearly an outstanding Oz player.

Tsattolis is not listed as injured so he must have really dropped out of the running....he is a specialist LB, Locky is injured and he can't even make the bench.

Brockie won't come to the Nix...though he would be great to have. The 5 current kiwis in the senior squad will be all 30+ next season, all from the class of 07/08. It would be nice to think we had a succession plan. In fact the whole squad has kind of an aged look about it. How many more seasons have Warner and Pasty got? Greenie is 34 , Daniel 33.....Ifill will be 34 at the end of his contract.

The Smeltz story is a media beat up.....how they can get "smeltz may leave" out of the owner saying he might pull out next year....and then retract that almost immediately

Lucas & Rowe definitely seem to have it over Pav & Tsats
Plus easier names = another reason to sign!

I for one am rather enjoying this Smeltz story, it's been far too long since this thread was full of wild unsubstantiated rumours flying around.

Oh how I miss the glory days when Ricki had contracts in front of three European strikers every other week, and Terry was constantly on the verge of unleashing bucketloads of cash which would send talent flocking to our shores.

Would love a few more rumours in a similar vane, it is a speculation thread after all.

He does play a defensive role well though, kind of like a wing back role.

he does?

In did against China did he not?

Anyway.. Brockie was pretty decent against Honduras. I'd put him in the first 13 likely to get on the park. Start him out wide.

he played there in confed or lead up i think and got raped. If you think he should be playing defender then you need your head read. And Lucas would a good signing if the ref allowed a second ball on the pitch for everyone else to play with

It's hard to get mad at Judas when he gives you a wave when his side ships 6 goals at the RoF, and then hand signs 1-0 to the zone when he leaves the pitch.

But he still is a Judas.

Both of these points.

When your stated motive is to get out of the Premiership/NZ by the end of the season and you move to Wellington where the pro team happens to be (away from a winning team at that where he was a starter) its quite easy to think he is playing for himself.

Have those 4 been quoted as wanted to be out of the Premiership/NZ by the end of this season? Don't think I've read them say that. So probably not as easy to think that of them.

Is it not a good thing he is trying to get out of the ASB Premiership to play professionally? If I was in a similar situation I would probably set myself similar goals. Depending on the nature of how he said these things of course.

Good for him moving to Wellington to get under the eye of Ricki. I hope it works for him.

Brockie's interview in the Newcastle news was interesting. Confirmed that he is off contract at the end of the season and when asked about moving back to NZ he said...." I'm really happy at Newcastle(they always say that) but you never know" ...then went on to say that maybe they(NiX) might not want him.

Ferk yes sign Brockie Coz 1, he is a good player...2, he can score goals....3, he is only 24....4, he is a kiwi.
He seems like the obvious guy to eventually replace  30 yr old Bertos who is also a good player who can't score goals and is showing signs of age and injuries taking the edge off his previous good form.

Hosbon McVeight? He wont make it anywhere. All he does is get the ball off his defenders, turns and clips long balls into the corners for wingers to run onto. Didnt make u20s, would be really shocked if he made u23s.

Sounds like he plays into the nix style of play mind you.

Allegedly

This is pretty much bang on from what I've seen. You can tell he rates his long ball but the players around him at U19 nationals did all the hard work and were better players.

Fuck this stupid game

So much this.

Ricki needs to back Jeremy, because he is a goal threat, versatile, and a kiwi.

Ricki just isnt ballsy enough to make the big calls and drop his favourties. The more goal scorers a team has, the more of a threat they are. Currently we have Greenacre, Ifill and Brown as our only real threats, but bring in Smith, and possibly Brockie and we are much more threatening all over the park.

I didnt realise heart's squad was so young!

Wish we could have a similar emphasis on youth players - at least 7 guys mentioned there 22 or under. Why only sign the minimum number of u21s? If only the nix had a feeder team..

Heart didn't have one either when they signed those players, they only set their youth team up this season.

Heart signed these players last season after scouting the AIS and the like, we could have done the same.

having the AIS is effectively a youth team for all the aussie a-lague teams, imagine the out burst if we signed a whole heap of aussie yoof, the knashing of teeth and clattering if knitting needles would be deafening.

How is that different to us having all older Australians?  We can sign those players too just as they can if we scouted their team/matches.

we also could have signed 3 NZ yoofs as well as 3 Aus yoofs if we thought any were good enough.

I just hope one day we can start finding and holding onto some promising young kiwis, who can grow onto become leaders of this club
