im assuming he is number 11 in that video, seems pretty good technically, but nothing overly impressive considering his flat footed opponents.

I thought they were implementing the asian rule- sux

Have you guys seen this: http://www.foxsports.com.au/football/a-league/former-arsenal-striker-nwanko-kanu-seeks-move-to-a-league-as-wellington-phoenix-loom-as-likely-suitors/story-e6frf4gl-1226218793228
Html pretty well sums it up, Kanu looking at move to A-leauge, for some reason we are linked with it... Can't think why if he asked for more money than sydney wanted to pay.
Does anyone know anything about this? I'd get excited but it just looks weird with all the talk about Killen.

as a pompey fan i have been watching Kanu for a few years now. the guy is old tho he has been for the last twenty years. He is absolutely class and would be amazing for the phoenix. But considering the contract he is on at pompey, including car allowance, phone covered for all his calls to Nigeria etc etc the nix could never afford him. He would be amazing tho and you guys would absolutely love him. It would be great to see King move from my first love to my second!

shame but maybe in a few years, he's already about 46 (despite his official age) but with his game another 2 years will make no difference

Good grief!!!!

There is fairly common opinion that the Nix shouldn't take anyone from the local Premiership because the gap is too big up to the A-League and then we trial someone who is playing pub football in Hobart Tasmania......

It would be a shame if Smith did not get a contract. He probably is not sharp enough as an A-League striker but the I thought he played some excellent football as a defensive midfielder. He is quicker then Lia and Brown...and he can pass fluently with either football and seems to have decent football brain, and he can defend. I thought we played some of our best fluent midfield football this season when Smith was in midfield.e.g away to Perth(no Brown or Lia)

Yeah I like the guy too, I think he's been great for us. I'd like to see him get a chance to play up front or in a more attacking role.
But I'm not sure his contract should be extended, not that he isn't A-league quality, I'm not sure he's A-league import quality.
Considering the reduced import quota, we have 5 now, I would expect Warner to be the first out giving us four, and if we can't sign Killen then we will be looking off shore for striking talent and Smith is likely the next one out.
That is unless Greenie becomes coach full time.

By the way whats the deal with coaches playing? We had Gould on the Bench a couple of time but what happens of your coach come fill-in-player is foreign?

I think Smith needs more game time, and maybe a bit further forward than those defensive roles he's been playing. Good touch, and apaprently knows how to find the back of the net. Would love to see him working with Ifill, Sanchez & Greenie in the attacking third.

Dude so worth paying a stupid amount for. I know the clubs policy is not to splurge out on big name players, and other clubs who have done it haven't exactly proven it to work but... come on, please...
If something comes out of this and someone else gets him I'll be so gutted.

I don't think signing a 38 year old outfield player is a wise move, no matter how good he used to be.

I do not agree. If hes not scoring goals hes at least registering shots on target pretty much every game. And im sorry but Smith needs to go at the end of the season, as mentioned before hes not worth the soon-to-be-reduced import quota. Hes nothing special at all, he plays what you would expect of anyone at a bare minimum. People saying 'he has a good football brain' or 'he can pass fluently from both feet' .....? So what? It would be something to crow about if he were 8yrs old but this is professional football.

one shot on goal per 90 mins & nothing else does not warrant a place in centre midfield.

As much as I enjoy making cracks about Ricki's love affair with Brown he does consistently pop up and do something special (i.e. half way chips, and regular late runs into the box). The midfield component we need gone, and isn't as good as Smith (in my mind) is Lia. However Lia doesn't take up the import spot.

Should we get a RB that is up to scratch I think we can certainly say goodbye to Smith, and see Lia used as a utility left-right-out.

Have you actually seen Lia play since he came back from injury this year?
