It would be a lot better, but title contenders, I don't think so.

Really do think that Allsopp is coming our way. Would not be the worst pick up - he's a very, very frustrating player but still scores goals.valeo2011-10-13 21:48:36

I know this is the speculation thread, but what a waste of time this is ^^

I still cant see Melbourne releasing Allsop. Its a long season, you need to have players ready to step in. Archie has been injured so often, and how long will Harry last?

You need quality right across the board. We don't have that.

But does he want to play from the bench every week. Oh wait, not play at all.

Allsopp will want to play.
Melbourne want another defender but can't fit a decent one inside the salary cap. If one of their defenders goes down right now they're screwed.valeo2011-10-13 22:10:30

No real basis for this except hope and wild speculation but I have a feeling that the Killen transfer might have some legs.
For example we were checking out 3 Euro strikers and suddenly said we were not interested in them after all. Then the club hinted at someone coming in later...and then have gone quiet. We know the new owners are keen on a top marque.

In the mean time there has been nothing from China about Killen re-signing with his club or any other club there. It been said that he is a free agent on Nov 2nd.

So there is a possibility that the club will pick up Killen. They are going quiet on it now because of the egg ball cup. But after that is over would'nt it be great if we had a press release from the club about an imminent signing of a quality striker.

Again no facts about this.....just wild hope!!! Because we desperately need someone of Killens stature. We can't expect Greenacre to carry the load all season and Smith is an unknown who has been listed as an attacking mid.

This seems to be the logic everyone is using, i personally dont think he would be worth the marquee spot. Well he should b able to fit under the cap, and should want to play here and play for the team and his home city without the mega bucks. I have the same idea with Nelsen- if he came, should he really demand the marquee wages?

Also think Alsopp is likely as well, but guess it depends how Ricki goes tapping him up.
We could get both, and have a strike team of ex Man City players. - they all played there at the same time I believe. Maybe they could hook us up with that Tevez guy too

Not the next Manny but what about the guy that TW have just signed from the QSL?

Tyson Holmes, 18 goals in 16 games for Sunshine Coast FC, League MVP for 3 years running.

Might be part of the reason why he signed with TW, looking to make connections at the club and impress whilst over here.

I am surprised more promising state league players don't come over and try their luck in the NZFC. We are the only club without a youth team, so being over here and playing would increase your chances of picking up a permanent or injury replacement contract.

yeah 18 goals in 16 games isnt a promising enough goal ratio, come back when you over a goal every other game.
Oh wait...

Plenty of players score more than that in Capital 1 down, doesn't mean they are A-League quality.

I'm not saying he isn't but he's been to a few A-League clubs that have passed so I'd be reserving my judgement.

I severely dislike Vargas, but he would be a solid CB option.

Erratic rather than solid and do you think he's going to come here to sit on the bench behind Siggy and Dura?

that is the other question, but if he wanted to come, I would take him.

We need another CB for when our current 2 get either injured/ suspended/have a baby. I dont think he is that erratic, and doesnt seem to hoof it as much as siggy does, plus decent aerial option, and doesnt have a ponytail anymore.

I would have thought they desperately need Vargas to stay. I'm striggling to believe it. Ditching Allsop and Pondeljak would make sense.

Victory want Colosimo from Heart, and Heart would replace him with Madaschi. Maybe they hope to swap Vargas for Colosimo, and sign Madaschi themselves.

Annoying to hear that Allsopp is not keen on a move here. He'd be a very welcome addition.

Vargas is quite old to, nearly 33. I wouldn't touch him or Pondeljak, considering he nearly 36.

Make him an offer he can't refuse.
He dribbles a lot and the opposition dont like it - you can see it all over their faces. (Ron Atkinson)

His attitude might have softened after he was left out last night.

why dont we try lure Madaschi or Colosimo our ways then? Hmmm?

Didnt think about Roddy's age, that does make we question whether I'd want him, but still think he'd be okay for a season/2

I'm not sure. Sigmund plays with a lot of heart, and remember he was our player of the year last season.

I would normally agree because of siggys lack of pace and distribution... however signs last week showed both had improved dramatically in the last 8 months so who knows :)
