Ok Diego was sh*t, but come on he played for under 10 minutes. How was he suppose to get in a good rythem to do anything in that time?

Riki's subs were absolute crap like usual. Also the offside call was correct IMO, he had enough of an impact on that defender.

Some calls from the ref were shocking though, like that chop from the guy who already had a yellow.
Lia stood on someone studs up and he was on a yellow too. Evened out I say. Also Brown went in with a raise arm (ala Cristiano's red card in last years GF but a bit worse) and got nothing so I don't think we're in a position to complain really. Some of the linesman's calls with throw ins and corners were horrible though. I thought the corner that they scored off should've been a goal kick too but not 100% sure.

These are fair points. The ref was rubbish overall.

With that one shot down the fever end for the Phoenix it took a huge deflection and went out, the linesman called for a corner but then the ref said nope, free kick. Shocking.

Best. Summary. So far.
yep a very good summary

piss off naysayers, get behind your team, dont be a negative bunch of f*ckwits.
Though it was initially disappointing as we should've won, performances like this can only be good for the team. We were good - just give them a lot of shooting practice this week ricki!

In a way it shows how much better the team is looking this season that there's people who are expecting a win in every home game.

Decent Fever crowd tonight, not too sure where the YF Boys were in that crowd of randoms in our zone not cheering at all.

Great goal Ifill - Should have been 2-1 but it is quite arguable.
My judgement is that the pass was originally to Greenacre. So he is in the play meaning he was offside. :( Sadly, but it was a good judgement from the linesman.
I must say we really dropped the slacker on the defense in the last 10 mins + the stoppage time onset of shots on target..
I witnessed Adelaide purely defend the a shot, and pretty much take it 50m up the yard with one player?

WHERE WAS OUR DEFENSE???

Thank you boys for going wild in the last 10 too. Shi* we were loud on the tele.

I really hope we can play like this agian next week away from home. And its going to be a rough call for anyone to be dropped IMO. You can get rid of Diego and Ferrante from bench I guess, but would you move Sigmund back in? I'm not too sure?  Hearfield actually looked great going forward from that position. Didn't really get tested. I'd have to see how good Caceres is before starting him. I wouldn't bet on him starting over any of our attacking players tonight, to be honest, he's going to have to be really good to shift any of them.

He could be played with Lia/ Brown as holding midfield, but I doubt he can defend. Will have to wait and see.

Controversial question, but is Greenacre the right fit? He works his ass off and he really is an amazing player,  but he doesn't seem to get many opportunities at all and I don't know if this is because he doesn't get the service, or if he usually just works best with a man tight next to him? Was thinking a speedier Chen could actually fit our play there? I don't know, maybe I didn't see it right, but he doesn't look to get many chances ever? He was definitely working his ass off and I'm not saying he is a bad player at all. Just debating if he is the perfect fit for our attack??

All in all though it was a great day out.
Well done to the nix for keeping a great home record but we must play more like this away from home!!!

Geezz Ricki - Try putting players you ACTUALLY Signed on?? Roll different players. Then choose what is best for the playing format. I agree with the post before as well. Make it 4-3-3 when we are Away.

Well said playwithFire.

I suppose it's already been said before earler in this thread.

We've got the point that Adelaide wanted.  Ifill putting in another good game - very impressed with his workrate.  Leo was rather subdued I thought - does he usually play in the centre? Daniel worked hard too but some of his slide tackles were a bit nerve wracking to watch.

Crowd/atmosphere was good to start off with but went flat as the game went that way.  Good on you YF-FZ for keeping up the chants but they were rather repetitive.

7000k+ disappointing - maybe it was the SE wind after all.

Mental note to self:  Next time there is  Friday night match I'll take the kids over to the other side away from aisle 23.  We were close to a bunch of yoofs who were more keen on chanting about themselves than watching the football.

Somewhat disappointed with the match - but for the ability to finish we had plenty of chances to take all three points.  But still the team did show some good pass and move especially last 5 minutes when pressing for the winner.

Oh well, roll on the next round and also NQF in a few weeks time.

You must be new here, everyone here knows that I write a tad more than expected. Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

It is definitely an exciting team we are developing here. I like what Ricki is doing with the players and their roles. In most games, we will always have a few players that are not on form but still be able hold their playing roles intact to allow the teammates to hit top gear. This gets naturally rotated around the whole team throughout the season. A player can't be the flavour of the month, every month unless he is totally class act above this league. Even when Ifill appears to be hitting the bottom of his top form, he will have a quiet game here and there during the season, although he is very classy for this league.

We have to remember that although some players may appear out of tempo with the actual game, they could be on their mini performance drop which is natural. In a season, their playing peak cannot be sustainable for every game. In fact training wise, it is not encourage to peak but to maintain a consistent high as it is not physiologically possible to maintain performance peaks for prolonged periods.

What I am starting to see, is that these players are kept at a consistency monitored training plan, rotating hard and easy training weeks to keep them at a high but not peaking performance. Without a reserve team, to keep the engine going for the bench players, it still not easy to maintain that consistency across the board.

Although, I like understand what their thinking process are when they shooting for goals and whether they had psychologically breaking it down and rebuilding the thinking. After a couple of seasons, Daniel still can't take a risk shooting with his right when in an ideal position. Some still rushing their shots, when a pause to target the shot on goal can help plenty. While others are taking too much time is their shots and the opportunity goes amiss. Last season was bad, however this season the same players have the same problems. Lucky we have acquired players that can shot and hopefully teach/share with the other guys a few finishing secrets, if not at least inspire them shoot better.

Maybe we should give him hookers and blow so he performs better. Possibly used to the Las Vegas-like Adelaide lifestyle.

Just out of curiosity, did anyone else notice the music at half time? The announcer claimed it was "'70's Night," and proceeded to play "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" by Cyndi Lauper (1983) and "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell (1981).

Made me laugh

Who were the f@*king muppets who threw the bottles at the end of the game. FFS all that has happened is that the Fever are once again branded as bottle throwing holligans by the stadium and security.  If any one knows them, give them a good uppercut cos they aint done the Fever any favours at all.

Poor turnout on a Friday night for sure but it was a lot of fun in Aisle 21 with some great comments being thrown around..thank to the big scottish guy up behind us for that!!! Most welcomed...

The players were not awful but were the better team in fighting for 50/50 balls. In some of the flat patches, some of the players can't do much if the ball is in the air and bouncing and not on t....................QUOTE]

I shortened your quote for brevities sake (hope you don't mind)

There are lies and then there are statistics (badly paraphrased I think), yes we had more shots but as you said only 4 were on target which is poor.18 shots on goal but only 4 on target with all that possession at least half should have been on target.

As you know possession in football is nothing if you don't use it and we did not use it well on most occasions. Our counter attacks were mostly slow and predictable, we left Greenacre isolated so many times up front, with some of the pace we had there should have been support all around him.

We have to use our assets better i.e. we have  pace down the flanks lets use it instead of tippy tappy passing amongst the midfielders. When we did use our pace to get to the byline often there were only 1 or 2 players in the box.

A lot of our passes went astray or were ineffective, when you see Ifil popping up at left back then you know theres something wrong.

Adelaide were poor tonight a shadow of their former selves and we should have buried them in the first half. We have a good team but didn't play well last night, especially in the 2nd half, Leo had a very average game by his standards, I had to ask someone if he was actually playing.

We seemed to lack direction going forward and the speed of our attack was poor, maybe it was to do with the formation (which was baffling for a home game).

I don't know about you but for anyone to be happy with a draw at home in a game where we supposedly dominated then people don't have much ambition for the club. I expect us to beat teams at home, we do have the players to do that and there are some signs of things clicking but there is a lot to work on.

There just didn't seem to me to be any real spark or zip to our game, there were a few signs that things are coming together so I'll pull back from my 'we were awful' comments but I still think we played very averagely  based on the team we had on the park and the team we were playing.

I am happy with our purchases of Greenacre and Ifil though. Ifil especially looks likely to be one of the leagues best players this season  (in fact probably is already) and Greenacre works like a Trojan and has very good spatial awareness , goals will come for him if our midfield steps up.

But one thing I think we can all agree on was that the officials were poor tonight, forget about the disallowed goal that was a 50/50 call. But Ifil and Greenacre we getting bundled over everytime the went up for a ball, and there were some baffling calls from the linesman. The FFA has to do something about the quality of the refs and quickly because it is to the detriment of the league.

Finaly to the F***Knuckles who threw bottles I hope that you are caught and never allowed at a sporting event at the ROF again.

I enjoyed the game. and big ups to the midfielders esp daniel who played out of his skin. We played for the win so that was encouraging. Was disappointed that the second goal was disallowed though. I dont know all the rules about offside though. If we play like that and even better in all of the remaining games then it can only be a positve. And to think the aussi import hasnt played yet. and also the much talked about chinise striker. Great Stuff crew

Ok I have just watched the highlights and we weren't awful so I take that back,  but we should have done a lot better than we did. To many bad decisions on the ball, we need more speed out of the midfield and for goodness sake someone support poor Greenacre he was isolated on his own most of the game.

But in saying that we are coming together better than I originally thought and I think a couple more games will see a much better team (as long as we get our formation right).

Ifil is surely the best buy in the league so far this season.

As for the disallowed goal I had another look and neither the defender or Greenacre could have got anywhere near the ball so I don't believe it was offside and should have stood.

Great game, and to those Daniel fans who keep on saying he cant last the distance, I think he proved you wrong. Those who doubt his defensive ability, sure some of his tackles were a bit rough, but he was making them and doing his share of the defensive work.  he and vinnie lia worked their butts off tonight and the team looked better for it. Ifill was excellent.

I'd like to see this line up given another go except drop Diego and bring in one of the unchosen. I want to see the offside before I comment on that but sitting over in Aisle 12 we had a great view of Ifill scoring a fantastic goal.

More comments to come.....

Bit gutted, with all Adelaide's injuries now would have been a great time to get our first ever 3points off them, but I'll take the draw.

As an aside why can't we get after match interviews like press conferences and stuff and if we can where do I find it ?

Spilt milk I know, but Ifill's "winner" was so convincing that even Sky showed the replay on the big screen at the ground. which, from the reaction, endorses FFA's decision not to show controversial decisions at stadiums. Well done Sky for a wee stuff up, this time to our benefit.
