Well this team is probably set up to help him get that...Diego of the bench to set up the winner...snorts into his Horlicks...

Need to do the damage by half time (2-0) and hang on when one 65minuter is subbed for a 45 minuter. (2-1)

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

I depressed already...another team stacked with midfilders who will hopefully deliver to the lone sriker..sounds like 08/09 all over.  We have lost a chance to go all out attack..if Chen isnt fit or up to it then why sign him..sign someone who is fit..even Daniel says he isnt 100% ffs and play 2 out and out strikers.  If Greenacre goes down we are stuffed.  Ifill may get another one but we really need to put 3 past Adelaide.

Despite this I wil cheer like mad....

You have a good point. If daniel admits he is not a 100% fit then why play him? I've been hearing alot about this chen and yet no start for him. He's only on loan here so he most be good? very confusing. The only good thing about the Nics this season so far really is BERTOS, IFIL and Greenacre. but we'll be at the game giving our best support.

Impressive array of misery pre-game.  Maybe a new record for how early the post-game angst kicks in.

No misery from me, but also want to see NO COMPLANCY from the lads tomorrow night.

This is our game to lose... so DON'T.

Sorry - this is a game we should win and ours to lose if we're not careful...

If we lose tomorrow the wave of angst round here is going to make Boxing Day 2004 look like a ripple on Days Bay.

Daniel only said he wasn't 100% beacuse he hasn't been playing 90mins, a player can't deem himself match fit until you have played a few matches.

Botafogo - Rio de Janeiro and Wellington Phoenix, my two teams til death do us part.

Vidmar has said he'll be happy to nick a draw...

Back at home after playing three of the first four rounds of the competition away, Wellington coach Ricki Herbert said his side would need a sharper edge in attack to back up the 2-1 home win against Perth Glory in round two.

"I think against Brisbane Roar (1-1) we showed good attacking signs," Herbert said, "but we'll probably look at doing something similar in approach to what we took against Perth."

Slight change of tack but related to tomorrow's match.

Are there such things as match day programmes anymore?  Now that the famdamlee is hooked I thought it would be nice to buy one or two over the course of the season as a memento.

Great, thanks HN.

Will pop down tomorrow lunchtime.  Will save on the melee at the beginning of the match, finding seats, filling up with water etc.

Right, back to the angst and misery...

Actually. complacency can be our worst enemy, we need the stay hungry and focussed. If we get ahead, we need to keep the foot on their necks and go and keep on going. No sitting back and no expectations.

Us fans have to adopt the same tomorrow night. Voices at the ready!
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Having suffered the highs and lows of being a 'Nix fan, like we all have, I can assure you that I certainly won't be complacent tomorrow night

Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

Got a real good shot tomorrow night. I really dont like the idea of Brown and Ferrante as impact players off the bench but we gotta play with what we got.

We can totally win and I can see Daniel really shining, as long as he doesn't piss round too much. Hopefully Ricki has drilled into his head that he must defend.

I also have to stress that Diego shouldn't be underestimated! He's facing his old squad and is fuming from last week I guess so I expect he really has something to prove. Would like to see both him and Daniel linking but don't know if we will get that chance.

Personally I think he should be on the bench for if/when Greenacre or Ifill tire (two up front when playing at home).

Yeah i agree.

Costa has been f**ked around with too much now and i think its time for Ricki to give him a shot this season.

He did well when he played last time so i don't see why not?

Personally i hate Ricki Herbert and think he deserves to be mutilated by hawks and Egyptian dogs.

Enough of this Costa angst already!!!!!

Fact 1, Costa got lots of game time pre season.
Fact2, he did not do enough to warrant further promotion
Fact3, there are better players in the squad

We all love Costa but when he had a chance he should have taken it....now he is down the pecking order. With no reserve grade it is tough for him to impress for a first team shot. This does not mean he is out of the picture completly.....he needs to put his head down, train hard and his time will come!

Sir I'd like to buy you a beer!

This forum in general has a man crush on Costa. Yeah sure he local etc but ultimately, if he was good enough, he would be playing...

yeah but also I felt that he did prove himself at the end of last season and he didn't look too far off the rest of the squad. I just thought that he should have at least been given a shot in one of these games on the bench because we have had no other striker options.

I just think it will be pretty harsh for Ricki not to take a striker replacement to the bench at all when Costa is avaliable, but take Chen when he is ready.

I think honestly the benches should be extended to 6. Or atleast 5. Lots of squads are flying more than 15 men over anyway so its not like it'll be affecting costs too much. That way coaches have more realistic options. Especially when players get injured.

After that, go the nix!!! Can't wait!

What a load of bollocks. For a start, every limited opportunity Costa got to play, he's played well. And couple that with the fact that his opportunites have been limited in comparison to some of the real underachievers (to put it politely) in the squad, and all this Costa angst is more than understandable.

100% agree. I'm not coming out and saying start Costa, but when we have played 2 strikers this season, surely we should have had cover on the bench, especially when Ifill was still just gaining fitness. Costa has played well every time I have seen him and looked more dangerous than all our previous strikers excluding Smeltz.

I'd be a little annoyed if I worked this hard preseason and then Ricki doesn't include him at all in the bench, but has indicated that his new striker Chen, was going to be a part of the action soon. And he said this a few weeks ago before he even had properly trained with Chen.

Costa and Rojas are the ones missing out the most with not having a youth squad. Wish we could loan them out game by game, even if it is just for small Saturday league stuff. We need these kids growing up playing footy.

Missed breakfast so might have to do brunch, then lunch. Will make it for the game for sure. To see Daniel start is a highlight. And the team will need all of us cheering them on and keep them focussed. WIN !!!

Seems to me like we've changed the team a bit *too* much - at the back (forced) and in the midfield there will be quite a few changes. Hopefully they gel!

A calf injury to Marco Rojas put paid to Herbert's plan of giving the youngster a spot on the bench tonight."

Gutted. I honestly think Rojas could make a big impact coming off the bench - ala the Roar midgets agaist us last year.

Does this mean Costa will get a chance? Or Jiangchen? valeo2009-09-04 13:09:54
