I think they should look at making it free for every kid under 12. They could give the tickets out at primary schools in the Wellington District.

Oh not really a rugby fan - with or without the shield.  I don't have children myself however thought it was a good idea to get more young ones along on to the games at family friendly times.  Don't know if they club have tried it or not.  $60 is a lot for a day out, you'd pay roughly the same to take a family to the movies I'm guessing.

$60 for a Nix game, or Te Papa for free, its wasy to see in the current financial uncertainty how easy it is for families to go do something cheaper in Welly.

Free season ticket for U12's with every adult season ticket bought maybe?

A family pass costs $60.  No including the booking fee.  Another drive past the ROF and saw that the Lions game allows under 14s in for free...there maybe have to have a paying adult with them but it's still a good deal.

Only if you like rugby (minus the shield)!

Doesn't this prove it's not really that much?

2 adult tickets + 2 kids tickets for $60 is a bargain in my eyes, you're basically getting the kids for $2 each!

The same 2 adults and 2 kids would cost about 60-70 pounds in Scotland, i.e. around $180. I know it's not a completely accurate comparison, but this is the SPL I am talking about, not the EPL which would of course be even more than that. The difference in salaries etc isn't a huge amount different, and certainly not enough to compensate for the massive difference in price.

Basically, in terms of ticket prices for sports in NZ, you guys have it pretty good (other than the proposed prices for the Rugby World Cup at least).

Movies: Cheap Tuesdays is about $45 for 2 adults and 2 kids, plus a gazillion more for popcorn and a small mortgage for car parking (unless out at skycity where it's free). Don't know what it would be for Friday- Sunday so probably not too far off $60.

For a silver family pass going to all home games bar ChCh it works out around $45-50 per game (plus a gazillion for chips and hotdogs).

Yes it's cheap Steve-O but we can still grumble can't we?!

Some would say going to see the Nix ever other week would be tedious too ;)

Well, can have best of both worlds:

Week 1 - Nix home game ($45-60)
Week 2 - Te Papa (free)
Week 3 - Nix
Week 4 - Maritime museum
etc etc

- Sport AND Culture...only in Wgtn!

(c.f. Country AND Western - in Palmy)

You can also take the kids on the cable car to the Botanical Gardens, as our friends did last weekend.

Good walk/cycle around Oriental Parade on a nice day.

Do the tour of Parliament

Window shopping around Lambton Quay/Willis Street/Cuba Mall

All things you can do with a family that don't cost much.

Hmmm.  Addicks for Saturday games you only have n=2 observations.  Pretty unbalanced sample to draw your conclusion.

Can you show your workings and your probabiity values?

I'd suggest you undertake a multivariate analysis and gather as much data as you can (weather on the day, other events in town, OCR, balance of payments etc).  Come back in a couple of year's time when the analysis is complete and by then you'll have another two seasons of data to add in.

I could throw in a few more pretend Saturday games, but they would reflect more on my imagination than the number of people who really attended.  Have I buggered it up, because those were the only Saturdays I could find.

Was just interested in days of the week as the variable factor.  Wasn't as conclusive as I thought it might be - I'll go look into the weather readings from those days now eh, and whether something else was on (rugby, red bull cliptomaniacs - since Sky think it's so damn important - or boobs on bikes)

Wow, never been called trendy before, especially after having a season ticket for 26 straight years for an unglamorous club like Wolves, oh to relive those decadent cool hunting Tuesday nights in downtown Grimbsy and Portsmouth in the middle of winter!

Obviously all this pales into insignificance for a heavyweight, forum loving, lanyard wearing hardcore football fan like you Fortean.

Oh by the way I got made redundant in May so we couldnt justify buying season tickets for the Phoenix this season as our cat needed a new Burberry raincoat and I wanted a Mercedes Benz convertible for summer.

If the price set up on $12-$15(Adult)

Any chance there ll be 15,000 ppl get into Westpac?

$25 x 8,000 = $200,000
$15 x 15,000=$225,000

Compared to other sporting events, nix prices are a bargain - sure I don't have kids, nor even a girlfriend, but $60 for a family ticket does seem pretty reasonable.

A real mystery why so many stayed away, hopefully some answers will be provided by the crowd at the next game. i.e if it is sundays that get better crowds, or more of a general slump in numbers...

The problem there is devauling the product. If the price goes down to $15 you may get one good crowd. If the team loses or the weather is poor for a few home games you can't just shove the price back up. You could make it $8 I suppose and hope for 25,000

And you'd assume those extra people turning up at a cheaper price would by other stuff / the people turning up already may be able to buy more.

Would be good if they picked one game where all kids under a certain age got in for free, or even do a buy one ticket get another adult halfprice deal, would be good to get more folks in and hopefully a few more catch the 'nix bug.

In the current financial climate the club need to be clever and make it a good offer to attract those who are maybe interested in going along to see what the fuss is all about.

If the stadium sold some decent food that wasn't a complete rip-off, that would attract more people to the stadium as well.

The prices for everything have been put up, but the food is still crap.

So it's cheap to get in but expensive to drink (or eat).

Now I recall someone grumbling about grumblers about ticket prices...

It is cheap to get in, yes...but I think the beer is too expensive.

As I am a bit partial to getting 4 beers at the game, that's $24 and only $4 less than I've paid for my ticket! $6 isn't too bad for a beer, but in a small plastic bottle, I think it's a bit overpriced.

I worked out that an Adult silver season pass (as part of a family) was around $15-16 per game (not incl ChCh). That almost saves you another beer.

Only flaw with that is the other adult and two kids tickets you have to get (and as a result even if you wanted too you probably couldn't afford the beers!)

Chicken and chips was the only thing we found last game...

But the rest of the food is rubbish.  Burgers are the worst.

you can still get the fish and chips.  I  love those mini donuts.  The rest of the food is gross, so I take my own snacks.

As for the beer it's a tad overpriced, when I was overseas you got bigger servings but then you had to TIP!  So parted with a $10er per beer!  That bites.

I refuse to pay for water there too, so take a empty bottle and fill it up at the water fountains.

If people go to a sporting event, its for 1 reason only. to watch sport. Food isnt the main attraction. what a load of crap. if people think like that then they are a soft as nuts!! Crowds dont want to pay to go watch a team lose. so moral of the story...

Quick scan of this round's crowds - only Jets vs Roar had modest numbers - under 7k and at the other end a whoping 17k for the Tards vs Nix.

Would be nice to get another 10k crowd but previous seasons' trends don't support this.

However, the Lord moves in mysterious ways... (sometimes crawling along the sideline with his nose pressed to the white paint).

I was pretty stoked that that many people are turning up in Aussie to see us play.  The crowds at Brisbane and Sydney have been solid too.  I think 3pm Sunday is a good time for a decent crowd, 10k would indeed be good this weekend. Weather should hold too. I just hope a course I'm on finished early enough on Sunday!

Yeah here is hoping for a big crowd. but i am not so confident. Been talking up the Fowler element to my mates. Buit the response has sort of been, "Oh yeah, nah ill just watch it on TV."Im picking 7 thousand. But would absoluty loved to be proved wrong.

How many Livepool suporters in Welly.

according to my quick maths, if all the season ticket holders brought along 5 people, we'd have a crowd of over 12,000.

The WPFC website have taken away the season ticket counter. I'm assuming we have more than 2400. ie 2400 x 5 = 12000

Rockin!

Can't see that the quality of food would do bugger all to improve numbers to a 2 hour event.
