Yeah I am not sure this is real at all, I searched on X and Instagram and that account doesnt seem to exist. Also seems to good to be true. But part of me still has hope. Also wouldnt the Nix announce this either before or at the same sort of time?Nelfoos

Is this one real? Got a link instead of a screenshot?
Makes zero sense from a PV POV.
can only think the Nix are covering the entirety of Ben's contract as well as possibly a small loan fee - so pv are better off financially and hope that Ben continues his development here (he hasn’t really had a full season being the main striker)

Can't imagine an EFL/UK-based twitter account would use 'Waine Train' in a tweet. It didn't really take off over there, apart from when he was first announced at Plymouth.
Sorry guys, I saw the screenshot on Facebook and didn't think to look it up on Twitter. I hope it's real but can't find it either ☹️
All good mate.
A Waine loan move back to the Nix wouldn't make sense, but it also wouldn't be completely unrealistic.
Waine would get regular and consistent game time again, a chance to fill his boots again, and he would return to the UK in 26/27 stronger than ever, with a potential return to the Championship to look forward to if PV earned promotion this season.
Can't see this happening. He's just gone on their club page saying how great it is to move their etc. Then they loan him back to NZ... that'd be random as.
I hope we are chasing De Jeong and maybe even Dyer.

THX for owning it something others havnt. Not sure how much this old heart can take of all this pump me up pull me down stuff. Is off season finished yet. 😒😲😁

Looks very much like ADJ is staying on at Stellenbosch in the PSL. Whilst it seems Dyer is taking the cash in Cambodia.
As Gill said yesterday the Nix want that visa no 9. Then Supyk to kick on this season. That's why a loan deal for Waine doesn't make much sense (among other reasons). It would be too crowded up top - and potentially block Luke S's development.
All a bit moot, as everything points to Waineo not wanting to return to NZ anyway.

Dunno the psychology of it, but it made my day. Just the clever trouserness of it and the similarities to Mata from the Shrews, and the slight gazzumping of northern neighbours. I want to believe.
Despite what Gill said, feels like we need/could really benefit from an extra proven attacker even with a visa 9 and 10 with all the attacking players we lost and how young our attacking subs are.
4-3-1-2 with Waine/kiwi, import 10, import 9 in attack and Ishige, Rufer, Kazu midfield would be amazing. GSR and LBS can sub into the advanced midfield role Kazu and Ishige play to free up/rotate attacking subs for Walker and Supyk so the kids don't miss out too much.
Saying that, we've missed out on or not bothered signing the available good kiwis like Waine, De Jong, Stanger which is depressing and a bit worrying. The only kiwi players I can think of that are still available and good for this level are Bevan and Whyte who aren't very inspiring. Maybe we give Van Hattum another go if our import 9 is aerial?
After the disaster of last season you'd hope the club would do more to prevent it from happening again like what Perth is doing with their big signings.coochiee

It will obviously be imperative that the visa 9 & 10 are ALM high quality and injury free. That takes a certain amount of luck.
I'd be more worried about a lack of an obvious central AM backup, to a visa playmaker 10. Whenever Rojas or Geraldes were out last season (so about 80% of games) the football was a horrible watch. Can Ishige slip into that role?
Alex Greive another Kiwi overseas that might be able to do a job at ALM level. But again I think the Nix will want Supyk to get increased mins this season. So I just see the visa striker and him. Ishige to play up top in need.
Yep we have zero attacking depth. If we are relying on the likes of Walker, LBS and Supyk we are probably in big trouble. I wish we still had van Hattum, that's how bad things are. The #9 and #10 we sign need to be Davila/Hemed sort of quality

Nagasawa and Ishige can both step into the 10 role if needed, albeit with limited success last season.
GSR will be one to watch in that position provided he can stay injury free. He’s still very early on but the potential is through the roof.
Grieve has a +1 on his contract right? Surely takes that over the Nix especially as our project isn't very inspiring.
Is Supyk a very promising player? Feels like people don't talk about him that much and he got much less minutes than the other young guys. Maybe he gets overshadowed because we had Barb and/or GSR and LBS have more flair/hype. He seemed alright when he played last season. I remember him messing up his two big chances to score by not shooting quick enough but they were hard chances and he is young.
Van Hattum would be great if we get an aerial 9. He deserved a chance to prove himself, but we had no aerial attackers for him to cross to so it made sense for us to part ways. Shame he left right before everybody got injured though.
Oliver Whyte has left his Qatar side. He was handy with Rogerson over in Finland, maybe a lifeline?
Rogerson definitely had more success at Haka, a mid table sort of Finnish top tier club. Whyte was in & out of the starting lineup mostly there. He actually played as a striker/false 9 in most of his last season.
I mentioned him before but are we considering the elder Supyk - Adam, who plays LB for Wellington Olympic.
I suspect he's not on the radar of Gill & Chiefy. Few years ago now but from memory he struggled at the 2023 U20 WC in Argentina, and not long after was let go by the Nix. Trialled around the UK (has a British passport) but no luck getting a gig there. It looks like his young brother is the bigger talent.
Guys like Zac Zoricich & Deklan Wynne probably have stronger credentials. Though is Zoricich more a RB?What's Scott Galloway up to?
Seems a good chance the Nix will sign the left sided Matt Ellis (you don't bring a guy back for a 2nd trial without good reason), and maybe they plan to convert him into a LB/LWB?? The Phoenix have a long history of converting attacking players into full backs. They also have LKH of course.

I had a quick count and our mids and attack have only scored less than a dozen a-league goals total. That's scary...and 5 of those are rufers.

The 10 role, is one we keep talking about, but as ImaNix keeps saying it’s a bit tactically dead as a role. Though I’m not as tactically knowledgeable, I wonder are we talking about someone who is going to spray the ball from deep, or get the ball deep and move it by quick short passes or someone who will carry the ball, particularly in the opposition half, a la Ben Old.
Or someone who will hover round the area, how much defense they’ll do etc.
I think these days someone like Gibbs-White at Forest and closer to home May at AFC are the best examples. High pressing, just behind the big striker, can head back to midfield to get things moving, but can carry the ball forward while also having the ability to score from both outside and inside the box.
I think his comment was about Singh. I just don’t know in recent times if he has the stamina to play the press and also his ability to find the back of the net is lacking.

Yeh I was going to reply to that. Almost all of our players can move the ball crisply and certainly, depending on the starters, perhaps only the CB are unlikely to be able to play an incisive attacking pass. We can keep the tempo going with the players we have and create chances (edit:)without Singh in the AWs these days.
That creative, attacking midfielder could start on either wing, behind a striker or next to Rufer in a midfield 3 potentially…Gibbs-White is more of a passer and May more of a distance shot savant, though Gibbs-White gets his share of headers too.
But just in terms of the player we intend to sign, they don’t have to be sit in the traditional 10 position type player, but they do need to create and score goals.
I think that saying "number 10" today doesn't necessarily mean the same thing it meant 20 years ago, when you'd think of Riquelme or something. When Chiefy and Gill are saying that they are probably just meaning a forward that isn't a number 9. But Singh to me really does seem to fit that classical CAM mould
Anyone got a sniff of anything imminent? I know it's only early July, but still. Can't think of many seasons in the last 10 years where we hadn't signed at least one or two new guys before the end of June.

Dont forget think its also a while since we have had 18 players already signed this early in a new season. So not many places to fill would rather they take their time and get them right than just sign someone for the sake of it.
Yeah the squad for better or worse, is actually very settled compared to some pre seasons.
Good chance you'd think 24 yr old Matt Ellis will be signed pre the Wrexham game. Or maybe they have a final look at him in that game, before offering a contract. But he wouldn't be having a 2nd trial in Welly if the Nix weren't serious about him.
i'm sure YH is doing some detective work trying to pin point who NRFL trialist #2 is!
Last week Gill said "we are in discussions with a couple of players and quite advanced in conversations with a potential visa striker."
As I think Nelfoos said, announcing a visa signing(s) just pre the Wrexham match, would be smart marketing.
