Well to make anything like that possible they must get on with that wider club plan more consistently, as they said before. It was said the Chief strayed away from that too much. Club said they want all Phoenix teams aligned in style of play generally. So with good new players and fit, fast, I imagine Chris Greenacre could realign the men’s team to that. & either he or another coach after him could carry the team into top 2 for the 2nd time to try again. New player choices crucial. 🤞

Really cool if Rufer is staying. Going to Vietnam would be the most mercenary thing to do. Retaining him would be great not only for the Nix but for the wider A-League too, a genuine service to the game in this part of the world.

Signing one more starting quality #6 would just about sort out our midfield, with Casidy & FRC covering Rufer & that signing, with Nagasawa also able to do a job there. Could then focus the rest of our recruitment on attackers. Really promising offseason so far.

So I’m guessing that technically A league World Cup players are today back at training.

Anyone see Rufs in any pictures or training today?

I think they should get a new fast energetic defensive midfielder or central midfielder. I haven't liked seeing them be 2nd pace recently with other teams able to race around in the middle. & that goes for attacking midfield too. I would be thrilled to see a few Phoenix  midfielders able to move quickly at AAMI Park and in the Derby.

I wonder if the reason for no Hollman announcement was that the club were waiting on a Rufer decision.

If Rufer stays, maybe they’ll go for a visa CM alongside him instead of Hollman.

I think you're right. I found it odd that there had been all the Hollman rumours but no signings or sightings. If he's a free agent and there was mutual interest, surely he would be in the door at doing pre-season

I would like Hollman too please.
Who is the midfield without him? Rufer and Cassidy?
Succession planning is important.

6s/ 8s have been a problem the last two years. If Rufer is going to stay, depth around him is good. He doesn’t have to be expected to play every minute. He’s had injury and illness.

Depth and flexibility given unforeseen circumstances are what a champion team has. Newcastle last season just seemed to roll out savant child with an engine after savant child with an engine after injuries.

If our midfield is Rufer plus one, we can’t let Rufes take it easy in any way. Two plus good young players behind him ready to take minutes off him if necessary is a good encouragement.

Our back 6 used to be magic on defense. Wouldn’t mind that kind of strength again.

Would definitely be very good depth having both Rufer, Hollman and a Visa DM. But it would probably mean Cassidy won't see any game time so depends if Greenarce rates him and wants to develop him.

If we sign Rufer, It'll be Rufer & Import DM starting with Conchie and Cassidy backing up and then also Nagasawa can play there so that should be enough depth but if Conchie and Cassidy aren't good enough (which could be likely) and there isn't someone starting 11 quality to fill Nagasawa position if he was to play DM, then the depth isn't looking great.

I would imagine that Hollman would only come if he is assured at having first digs on the starting spot.

No reason however that the Nix are obligated to fill all their import spots if they think there is a player there.

Yes. Make sure. With Tim Payne gone and if they aren't signing a new right back, Xuan Loke/Matt Sheridan would play there. So, get another midfielder then. They should have done better across all midfield last season, so make sure now. Make the depth in defensive midfield, central midfield and attacking midfield.

So suggestion the plan was import plus local at 6 all along?

If Rufer stays it’s him plus? If he goes it’s Hollman plus?

Hard to know with kids coming through. Look at Newcastle. Stormed the keep with urchins. But then too many and you are missing a bit of experience, game management and so on.

Don't think it said visa so I'll say Oscar Faulds

We need another local striker and tried to sign him a year or two ago but he headed off to Europe instead, ended up back in Auckland's OPL squad. Hasn't re-emerged since, so could be he was on trial again?

I thought Faulds trialled at the Nix (whilst at NCR), but wasn't offered a contract?
Then he headed to Luxembourg.

He was pretty average in the OPL, though the heat in the Islands didn't seem to his liking. No idea where he is now.

Ryan Feutz was the best Kiwi striker in the OPL. Now playing 2nd tier NSW NPL.

Bally's Instagram story is at Portsmouth's ground with a bunch of the GSW leadership guys, would imagine that means we'll have an announcement about LBS pretty imminently

Who was the main u20 striker under Greenie again?

Keegan Kelly. He'd likely want to finish the University year Stateside first.

He's back in Sweden and at this stage he is 50/50 on whether he will continue in the game.

Who is playing up top for the Reserves in CL this season?
Supyk, Flowerdew and it seems Perniskie having all left.

If the Nix are to bring in a cheapest Kiwi non academy striker I'd say your potential targets are in no real order -
Moses Dyer, Max Mata, Alex Greive, Ryan Feutz and Riley Bidois.

Someone like George Ott a bolter. 20 yr old Morgan Wellsbury now at Olympic, scored plenty for Tauranga City in the Northern League.

Of those I'd like to see Dyer get a crack at the ALM.
Though he's a bit too similar Piper. Pretty average first touch, but great in the air and loves the agressive physical stuff.

With Glory again missing wages payment date this week (a continuous pattern recently), surely it won't be long until they are deemed to be in breach of their employer responsibilities and players will be looking for an out. At least threnix will pay on time! Wouldn't mind Taggart & Sutton!

Ryan Feutz signed up for Bankstown City a month ago.
They have also signed up Tomi Uskok and Josh Brillante, both from WSW, so they will have some decent quality.

Bankstown must have some cash. They are in the NSW NPL 2nd tier.

Their season will be over by October, and I'm guessing Feutz will look to play for SIU again from Jan next year in the OFC Pro League. SIU might even get to play some games at Te Kaha next year (ChCh hub?), which could be exciting for a Cantab like Feutz.

Still if an A League club makes an offer (he trialled at the Jets last year), you'd grab it wouldn't you.

Winger age 18. So they might want to replace Luke Brooke Smith & GSR. Get those easier replacements in so they have a full pre season and won't be both teenage and way under done by round 1. He was with the under 17 All Whites in OFC before.

It feels like there’s a plan and at least a couple of people with a view of the big picture. This doesn’t feel haphazard.
