Didn’t it all turn a bit sour between him and the big wigs at the club in the end?

I thought it was a wage and chiefy thing? From what I know, he certainly would come back. But that was a while ago and who knows as time passes. It would certainly fit Greenie's mantra of playing for the badge. Would love to have him back in a coaching capacity.

Not thinking someone is worth the wages and trying to get the, off the books, usually involves the big wigs however.

Also on the move is Sydney FC midfielder Corey Hollman, who is set to join Wellington Phoenix ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
The 22-year-old Hollman has struggled for game time in recent months, and a move to the Phoenix, who are rebuilding under coach Chris Greenacre, could kickstart his career.

Thats actually huge, I saw he was coming off contract and thought he'd be resigned by Sydney as I can see Okon being sold.
Hopefully turns out like Devlin did. He played a lot the previous couple seasons so it is interesting he didn't get many minutes this season.
Hopefully if we do target more Aussie players, we go for similar age profiles rather than signing older ones like Retre and Mileusnic

Defensive midfielder - Rufer replacement?
If Rufer is gone, I'd say its more a Retre replacement since he's been the one starting there with Nagasawa being played further forward. And then a new visa CM will be the Rufer replacement.

Ryan Feuzt just scored again in he Oceania pro comp. Hes been scoring regularly in this comp plus in Oz state league. Surely the Nix must be looking at him. Maybe not as no1 striker but he could do a job as a squad player.

Really happy to see that the rebuild is underway, if confirmed.
We got Mileusnic because we only played kids the season before. TBH I thought he always did the job he was asked for us.
Retre was an odd one for mine. Chief trying to not spend money maybe getting guys from the CPL and worse the bench of the Indian leagues.
But Najjarine, Mileusnic and Edwards was because Chief tried playing just our academy behind a couple of injured stars and we tanked. We needed a bit of experience and leadership. Now we’ve already got Hughes and Billy T, with LKH understudying them, Payney with Sheridan understudying him, Piper a few seasons older and wiser, potentially Nagasawa if he’s retained…that’s good continuity and experience. If we can add some Scrappy Doo like talent to grow into that starting role, great. I don’t know Hollman, but it sounds like everyone rates him, so great!
Rufer isn’t confirmed off yet. So we might keep our captain too. Who knows?

He’s up and down but solid overall and has had some outstanding performances so the talent is definitely there.
Apparently he’s also an aus/kiwi dual national?

Josh in the zone, he loves it here. You can't buy that. It's free.
We have a history with a visa goalkeeper before (Kurto) who was obviously much better than Josh from day one. However, as with some other our imports, he then ended up elsewhere in the A-League.
Whether Josh loves it here or not is kinda neither here nor there as long as he performs at a level we would expect from a visa player.
The question of whether anyone (not just Josh) should be our visa player can be answered with "yes, if we cannot get as good a non-visa player for that position for that money". On that I will let others comment. I continue to think we would need a decent regular (older?) goalie as neither Alby not Eamon are better than Josh at this stage. They are both excellent development goalies that can step up as backup when needed.

People are continually moaning about the number of players we lose at the end of a season. Despite the fact its a common occurance in the A League.
Today Brisbane announced the departure of 15 players.

I don’t think many will shed tears over 90 per cent of the players leaving.
Yeah I think we will have more players leave this season than Chiefys first season but the amount of quality players lost in Chiefys first season is going to be a lot higher than this season.

"Gill said at Greenacre’s unveiling on Tuesday the club hopes to confirm a couple of re-signings within the next fortnight"
That was Tuesday April 28, almost 3 weeks ago. Hopefully they have locked a couple in and were just waiting until after the women's final and we will hear this week

Today Melbourne Victory let go of Reno Piscopo. Now he has yet again been reduced by injuries this season. Don't bring him back, Phoenix!
Chris Greenacre probably wants 2 new attacking midfielders for his type of 4:4:2. Maybe 2 foreign or 1 foreign and Johnny Yull or whoever.

Reno has the talent to be brilliant, but his injury issues over the last few seasons, even before us are a massive red flag for any manager. Even on a free he'd be a risk. Paying someone who can only front up for part of a season is not the way you build a league winning team.

It all comes down to wages doesn't it... if he isn't asking for too much, then the gamble might be worth it... Thomas is a great example of sticking with a player despite their injuries. He's a club legend and all, but his injury record is a lot worse as a comparison.

Because we have room in our squad for quality players? Weird take.

Not technically a transfer fee but I think we ended up paying some cash to CCM over the WeeMac transfer.

No I'm saying it as you mention injury prone players and take a break, except for the ex-Nix player who didn't go to another A-League team and you mentioned always.
Singh is injury prone and the last loan proved it, as I said in another thread, the club needs to stop being loyal to ex players to move forwards. A player that worked for us 5-10 years ago may not work now.

Thanks for the replies.
I saw MacArthur will have Walter Scott leave. An option for left back depth? Might as well so options don't close, ought to leave enough of the 5 foreign spots for attack and midfield. Chris Greenacre's team requires another centre back too once Manjrekar leaves, but not sure who that could be.

Before he came to us on loan, he'd been pretty much injury free since leaving Hansa Rostock. Maybe he was injured at the end of the season with his portugese side seems like he was left out of the squad the last few game weeks but doesn't say if it was an injury on transfermarkt. And the injury he picked up for us was an unfortunate tackle/clash compared to picking up muscle tears in training.
He's definitely not as injury prone as Piscopo or Rojas. And is definitely a better player so worth the risk imo.

Walter Scott was our LB backup option 2019-2020, so not exactly an unknown quantity, but I have not seen anything of him to say that he has improved much as a player since then. Others may correct me if I am wrong.

I am a close relative to Walter, he’s moving away from A League, so wont be coming to Wellington :)

Thanks for this update. I have no idea what they will do, assuming Dan Edwards leaves.

Don't you just get a little bit of a sick feeling in your stomach that he will end up signing for another A-League side for 26/27 and he'll just take it to another level and rip it up?
I do. 🥲

There's no point in carrying a player like Armiento if he doesnt fit your plan or playing style though. He's a decent winger with a really good left footed shot, but he's bang average on defence. If you're not gonna play a high wide players then he's not gonna be much use to you.
He's better to move on and be in a team that will utilise him, I see him ending up a bit like Piscopo, massive talent but limited skills.
