Hopefully the Club can do something for David Ball, so the crowd can show their appreciation.

Already 7 points off 6th and Sydney's second consecutive midweek game so hopefully we can get something out of this.

struggle to see how we keep them out with their forward line which is firing in all cylinders.. their defence is weak if we can get the ball into that area of the field though

You would have to hope the club does the decent thing and allows the fans to say goodbye.

That's nice, probably wont be required though, midweek game, still holidays and we are on a losing streak.

Listened to Italiano interview.

GSR picked up a knock at training, and unavailable to face SFC. Brooke-Smith maybe in some doubt with a niggle. But sounds like Conchie who must have been injured will come back in. I think that leaves Loke as the only spare fit outfield squad member, outside the likely match day squad.

Both Sutton and Walker had a virus leading into the Adelaide game.

do questions have to be asked re: the fitness/conditioning at the club?

The two young hyphens are only 16 & 17. So knocks and niggles playing & training with grown men are to be expected. Plus just building their bodies up, to play higher level football for 90 mins.

Folks criticise Chiefy for signing 33 yr old Rojas and planning to build the team around him. Sure he has been more often than not injured the last 2-3 years, but his ankle sprain sounds very freakishly unlucky. Unusually being the inside of the foot, when most ankle spains are the outside foot. If it was a continued soft tissue (hammy, groin etc) type of injury - the hand wringing more justified.

All the feedback is that NZCIS has truly work class training and rehab facilities.

Quite sure I saw him (Brooke-smith) cruising towards the station on a scooter 😂 surprised the club allow that tbf (although very hard to enforce I bet).

When you're so weak somewhere else, it's going to impact ankle mobility too and that's probably what has done him.. Just too many injuries over too many years, I don't think he can play a full season anymore

Building a team around any player that has had injr=uries issues is daft, especially when said player hasnt played any sustained football for a couple of seasons. It's interesting that he cites Balls injuries over the last few years as part of the why he didnt play him this year, when Ball actually played through his injuries - yet he signs an injury prone 33yr old who has no game fitness at all.
I will always back whoever our manager is till the very end, but I question some of the thinking behind certain signings. and recent selections.

He can’t play a full game any more, let alone a season.

Personally I’d have cut Rojas free before Ball.

Yes we need that import spot but we had one which we’ve wasted on a keeper no better then last seasons back up we let go. As other have pointed out, nearly all mid season signings are a flop (Eugene Dadi the big exception).

Tomer Hemed was also sort of a mid season signing. Signed Nov 2020, but didn't debut for the Nix until early January 2021. In yes a Covid delayed start campaign, where the regular season stretched out to June 2021.

What about Salas? He wasn't a starter for us or anything but he was a pretty consistent sub. Hard to call him a flop imo

Wasn’t exactly a game changer though or the type of player we will need to turn a season around.

Failed to get that red card we were all dreading when he threw his whole heart and soul into a challenge on a player! So that was okay 👍

And to answer ☝️we could do a lot worse than Salas. It’s possible to do better too. But he’d cover RB and could do a job in a midfield spot for us…though his form was a little up and down which was probably the main issue.

You’d hope it was a performance based contract.

(Actually that’s another worry when you start see the coach leave people out. It’s probably not in this case, but say you need to make 20 match day squads to meet condition x or whatever and you make 18 or whatever.)

Pay per play contract that is a rolling contract.

I don’t know, but I’d guess a base contract plus bonus pay for meeting certain minimums?

Shivers its looking dire in the Nix camp... Hasn't been this bad in years. Sure a bit unlucky with the injuries but when you have no depth whatsoever you can't expect to compete - and I'll be surprised if we will tonight tbh.

Another loss today and the play offs are just about gone imo. Even a good import won't change that.

Kosta, inspired by Woodsy, to score the winner.
Please defence, be solid, body on the line like Sheridan's blocks last game, no own goals or keeper f ups.  Yeh maybe Al Taay can do a marking job on Lolley.

Joint top goal scorer (alongside Waineo and Sotirio) and was forced to play CM for a while.

Honestly a solid player but seems he may have regressed, not playing in Canada etc.

Three and a half hours till kick-off.

Apologies if someone has already suggested this but at the 10 minute mark (in relation to Ball wearing the 10 jersey for his last three seasons) we should definitely give a standing ovation for him, a way for us as fans to truly thank him for everything he has done for us, a Phoenix legend!

Be even more sweet if he was in the crowd with his family.

Plus of course Talay will be there as well to witness it, originally brought Bally to Wellington in the 19/20 offseason.

He was a good player that we played out of position. IIRC he was here on loan and wanted to stay but the Phoenix don't tend to buy out players.
