Nix don't seem to rate Piper in the air, with one short corner, two near post, and one towards Piper, which he duly won. Also Roa Conchie blasting a cross vs the defenders' legs instead of chipping far post. Yes, definite local football vibes. Still should've won. MoM Danascos.
For mine both were more pens than the one Kosta got against Kurto.
First, Nagasawa turns inside to take a shot, beats Kaltak and Kaltak hangs a substantial leg out to block him off.
Second, Nagasawa gets goal side, the defender has two nibbles and gets the ball neither time.
Also, fan pressure in the stadium does help. Hindmarsh/Coopers a clear example. Some of us get to games sometimes…14k today. Wonder how many will be happy with their entertainment today?
And for those telling me to drink or take recreational drugs, first cheap shot, I could be a recovering alcoholic. You don’t know a damn thing about me. I drink to celebrate or whenever my father in law shows up. Not much to celebrate today on the park.
absolutely stupid football. our main striker is defending like a left back. has to sprint the length of the field to join an attack and his touch lets him down because he's so knackered. marco van basten didn't bring his briliance to the field by defending deep and running his tank empty. i feel sorry for barbarouses having to play like this
this is just one example of many
we can say injuries this and youth that, but what's the reasoning for playing stupid football like this?
And worse, he’s lost confidence in his team mates. He took that long shot with two players coming up on the right because he thinks shooting from halfway is a better percentage chance.
I enjoyed that. Good endeavour by the team. Japanese boys starting to really look good. The kids are developing nicely. Awesome crowd by ChCh. Hopefully enough atmosphere live that the casuals enjoyed it. The potential of the team really showed and hopefully a recruit or two will get the attack firing.

I'd say "injuries and youth".
I know you guys are trying not to be biased and blah, but if you really don't think that the reffing was shocking then I don't know, man. We are so far apart in our perception of things that we must be on different planets altogether.

Disappointing to only come away with a point, we had a few opportunities, just lacked composure and couldn't get decent shots away.
It's probably not that often that you get 2 decent enough penalty shouts in a game and don't get awarded anything, but maybe we should've made more opportunities than we did anyway.
Crowd looked great. I think there was enough attacking moments in the last 20 minutes to have made it a pretty exciting end to the match for casuals in attendance to go away having had a good time
Also still annoyed that Retre got a yellow for being in the vicinity of a CCM player tripping himself up!
Can’t really relay on hopeful penalty shouts to win games when you create very little with a team below you at home.. must must win vs roar next week, because from there it gets hard: Victory away, Auckland away, City home and then WU away..
Don't even know what to say about the refereeing in this game. Should've gotten at least 1 penalty (ref didn't even consider it) and even the third yellow the mariners got felt extremely sketch.
should've been a win but on the bright side that's now 3 games uneaten! feel like that's gotta count for something

Great to see the positivity of the experience from some of us!
Would love to do a summer tour in Christchurch one day like I did in Welly a few years back.
Flew in to Welly. Had a big eggs bene a Flight coffee and a Parrott Dog for breakfast, went to two sessions at the Basin, went to the Nix, got some decent Brockie chants in, went to the post game, got to meet Paul Ifill and Jeetan Patel and then got a taxi to the airport and straight home!
A couple of test cricket sessions at Hagley followed by a Nix game seems like a decent plan some day…

I remember a couple of seasons ago booking it out of Gizzy short notice to catch a couple sessions of the test at the Basin and then the Nix that weekend too. Couldn't tell you the results of either sporting occasion I witnessed. Just remember having a brilliant weekend. Would be wonderful thing if the stars align for a Nix/HagleyOval double next season.
I think the last 3 games, which are supposed to represent an upturn in form, has shown we need to be very lucky to pick up wins. When was the last time you watched the Nix and felt confident they would get three points? For me it was when Rojas & Kosta were wreaking first half havoc against Macarthur on 14 December (ironically a game we went on to lose). It has been seven games since then, and we have been very fortunate to pick up the two wins we have in that stretch. I don't even care about the top 6 anymore, I just want to enjoy watching the Phoenix again. At least I won't have to suffer any more Nix games until Waitangi Day.
Great to see the positivity of the experience from some of us!

I think Sangakara batted most of the day at the cricket, so it was good we had a bit of a better football game…
Yeh- I’d been so parsimonious and careful with my money that year and just decided to go the day before too. It was one of the days after New Year’s I think.

Procrastinixing
Well done Christchurch on getting a good crowd in.
Well a second clean sheet for AKH. But my god we need some reinforcements and fast. Rufer, Payne and Rojas back would be nice too.
We have lost too many points at home this season which is super depressing.
Keep being you @Martinb.
lol cheers.
Even at my best I’d probably still be the worst player in the Fever, but if you gave me a kit and boots and said I was replacing Rufer today I might have even believed I could do it with that anger and frustration driving me on!
I’m sometimes on at the ref, but usually when they’re doing poorly.
Was it Kersey against Sydney? They had something go against them so they petulantly threw themselves to ground for the next 5 minutes every challenge and he eventually carded one of them for simulation or trying it on in the box and it stopped their petulance dead in its tracks. That’s good reffing.
I think where I’ve been most annoyed is the difference between competing for the ball and just foul play such as shirt pulls and kicking opponents after the ball has clearly gone. Still with Kosta hardly getting the ball he’s hardly getting fouled! 😕
Dunno who our player of the match was, but Sheridan must have gone close with his timely tackle denying a shot at goal. Good to see Piper improving every week, won quite a few tackles, linking up better. Nagasawa looked good today, great to see him getting in the box. Funny that he didn't get booked for diving but neither was given as a pen.
Huh. IMO, the 'marginal' players rank like this LBS, gap, Walker, Piper, gap, FRC, Supyk. Candy, Loke, Smith IDK.
Decent break now. Might get Payne and some other first picks back. Should make a big difference. Nix have done well in terms of points with the players they have.imanixsupporter
I'm just going to say for the benefit of ballane who gets very precious and defensive every time I criticise Piper, I don't think Walker is A-League ready either. Both very clearly the weakest links in our current side by some distance. Not their fault we don't have anybody else who is better though.

I'd put Supyk ahead of Walker, LBS and Piper myself. Hasn't had a lot of bite but actually looks like he belongs at this level with his touch and his decision-making. Walker, Piper & LBS are more lacking in those aspects.
Edit: just realised how lowly you put Roa Conchie. He's easily the best of all of these players, and it isn't close
David Ball paid off, let go, hence not available for a game like this. I will only understand this hare-brained decision if a top notch visa player is brought in very soon. He may not have the legs thst he had a few years ago, but shoring up the midfield, adding experience and strength to an otherwise lightweight line up, and feeding Kosta et al up front - could in my opinion - have made all the difference.

Really not a case of being defensive of Piper, what i dont get is him being continually singled out. While others make mistake after mistake and nothing is said. Just one example Sutton lost possession today more than once that lead directly to CCM attacks nothing said and there were plenty of others who either lost possession or made a bad pass. Do i like Piper yes im guilty love his determination and his never give up attitude even if he has made a mistake. Even despite his mistakes thought he was solid today and won some bloody good headers. LOL So yes i am defensive of him as i was of Siggy, Rufer, and Roy and NO im Not saying he is at their level. Just seems some Nix players cop more criticism than others.

Quite late to the post-match discussions lol, but I felt like I needed to post something considering it was my first Phoenix match in Christchurch since moving here.
Great turnout from Christchurch and everyone else who was travelling down or up for the game, was really nice to see that 14,064 attendance figure flash on the screen.
Two good games in a row for Nagasawa, that goal would've given him a higher boost in confidence, and he definitely showed it yesterday and was hard done by for not having at least one of his two penalty shouts awarded. Personally out of the two, I think the first one should have been a penalty more than the latter. That yellow card for Retre though was just pathetic.
Unlike others here, I wouldn't say the game was dire, in fact I would say that our overall performance was better than that game back at the Cake Tin against Newcastle a little while ago which was not a great win, but it is of course frustrating to drop points at home once again.
Since the match ended, there has been rain throughout the night, can still hear it now as I write this, so we can be grateful that the weather gods held off long enough for us to enjoy the match in calm, dry conditions.

Although the game wasn't great, I enjoyed other aspects of attending. Public transport is definitely the best way to get to a game - met a lot of supporters on the bus from Linwood, a thirty minute trip. A real mix of supporters from different backgrounds, all up for a chat about the Phoenix and football in NZ in general and glad to connect with other people with a shared passion, breaking the isolation of mostly living our day-to-day lives in a society where most people don't have the same level of interest. Starting where I live in Linwood, in one of the poorer parts of town, a Maori bloke got on wearing a Phoenix shirt and told me he was taking his teenage son to his first ever game of football. A happy group of African teenagers got on wearing EPL and European football shirts. A large middle class family got on the bus in more upmarket Cashmere (mum, dad, three teenage sons) all wearing Phoenix scarves. A family from Finland (mum, dad and two young kids) got on and sat behind me. They weren't going to the game and had arrived in Christchurch the day before, mum a doctor, dad in IT, trying out NZ for a year as a possible immigration destination ("everybody back home is worried about the threat of Russia at the moment"). They were fascinated to learn about the local football scene and the A-League. Cashmere Technical has just gained two new junior players (their football-mad son and daughter) - on my advice the parents will contact the club. In Spreydon, a well-informed dedicated fan of similar middle age vintage to me wearing his Phoenix hoodie got on and we engaged in chat about the Phoenix's form this season etc. We're lucky here to benefit from definitely the best and (for the time being) most affordable bus service in NZ - $2 full fare for unlimited two hours travel ($1 Community Services and kids) with a MetroCard. ____________________________________________ Great to be seated in a stadium with 14,000 other fans too. When the A-League authorities and NZ Football see such numbers, it can only help start some momentum towards a Christchurch A-League franchise. We all enjoyed the noise and (often joined in with) the chants started by the section of Yellow Fever supporters. Two more years of the three year deal for the Nix to play in Chch - no doubt they'll play better next time.

Let’s hope the Sth Island gets it own A League club.
Pragnell wants it to happen, and NZF will soon get a big fat FIFA cheque. Shiny new stadium in 2026. Bigger crowd yesterday then any other ‘neutral’ destination like Tassie, The Gong, Cairns, Gold Coast, Ballarat, Geelong I can recall of in recent years. New NZ club Auckland a big off field success by ALM new franchise standards
Who knows what discussions maybe happening with whom

Not sure either team deserved to win, chances created were prety few and far between. CCM are very lucky both pen calls were not given by the ref. As seems to be the case the bar to get a decision reversed is high. So if the ref had blown pen for either VAR wouldnt have reversed it. Second one on Nagaswas was a clear pen all day every dat, Kaltak has left his trailing leg out with the intent on blocking/catching the player.
