Are we the most miserable club ever?

We are a great refection of Wellington city in general currently.

This thesis needs a documentary

Fan mentality is important too.

Look how the Port helped rehabilitate Woud after a bad game, cheering everything he did.

We’re the twelfth player, the fortress.

All long term strong teams get the crowd involved.

Adelaide, Victory, Auckland…

I mean sure makes it easier when there’s something to cheer for sure…

Jeez 5-0 in wellington. Is this the worst game in history?
Not quite the worst game, that was the one vs Sydney where Del Piero tore us apart. But I'd say definitely the lowest overall point we've ever been as a club.

Need management to show ambition if you expect the fans to re-enforce it.

All the talk about bringing in an internal/familiar face to replace Chief - I don't think that's the right thing to do, even for the interim.

Go for someone external with new ideas. Not necessarily someone from half way around the world but like John Anastasiadis from Heidelburg who had the dream FFA Cup run this season.

We can't rely on referrals from the last head coach to fill the position like the last 2-3 coaches we've had. Break the cycle of mediocrity and act!

This is the key point. We’re not even going to use Mileusnic who’s worked hard every time too, pushing us forward.

We’ve got an attacking team and we haven’t created chances. We suddenly became a long throw team.

Well then, can we finally say Chief out without someone telling us we're bandwagoning or being quick to hate? Honestly it's been 3 seasons and all we've done is regressed. If we continue like this we're not gonna have a club in a few years time. Crowds dying, interesting shifting to Auckland, I really hope the owners take some initiative

Yeh, defo. Easy to roar at Siggie scoring late winners. Him and Manny certainly cheated on occasion, but Anglo football culture breaking jaws or cleaning out Kruse is more acceptable than demeaning your masculinity like Eze did. It’s just the hands on the face right? If Piper just stays down it’s fine. Armiento and Nagasawa go a bit easy too, but mostly favor holding their shins. And Nagasawa is a bit selective.

Just can’t understand how we just forgot how to play football for 20 minutes. The keeper I can. But AKH got similarly toasted last season.

But we’ve played resilient games in the last couple of months and we controlled that first 25 minutes.

Chief has to go. He can’t feasibly stay on. Bottom of the table. Feckless loss to their B team. You nearly gave us a title, Chief, but we can’t have one more game of this from a team of yours. Not another minute of Chief ball.

Chiefy out, James and Josh to never start again.

At least Rufer has the decency to apologize to the fans, thank you Sir! Wish the coach and owners had the guts to do the same.

I will now cancel my SKY subscription, and stop watching the team until the coach is gone. Hopefully that's tonight, or tomorrow morning.

All memes aside and whatever else.

How is it that the Nix are such a well run club off the field (e.g. finances, sponsors and other metrics), but when it comes to on the field it doesn't come close to compare.

Games like this are on the field but can harm off the field stuff too. Potential sponsors will see this and choose AFC over us and therefore harm us long term.

I always have maintained that ever since AFC came into the league that the club has made poor decisions since (on the field).

In another thread people were talking about a third NZ team, if that happens we will have every home game in Wellington, we won't be the shiny new toy and we have no history of a winning mentality. A third team for NZ would end this club.

Don’t blame him.

A professional footballer doing that is utterly pathetic and embarrassing.

Three for me, and two for them.

It could be that the 'affordable' price of our player pay packet and the relatively low coaching team salary makes up for the pre-calculated losses at the gate, with less risk than splashing out for a good team / good coach / but not getting the extra sponsorship or bums on seats from winning the league.  Cautious accountants, etc.

Maybe it is not a great comparison, but Australian Football changed the national coach from Frank Farina to Guus Hiddink in 2005 and qualified to the WC 2006 finals on merit (by besting Uruguay in continental playoffs).  Hiddink immediately cancelled meaningless friendlies booked by the FFA and organised a long rolling camp with people coming from the clubs and going back, depending on availability.  I remember very well that there was a sudden lift in quality in the team, not visible before, even if they were the same names (players) as before. And Australia did well getting out of their group at the finals, together with Brazil ahead of Croatia and Japan.

My point is that neither Greenacre, or Ifill, or anybody at that level, would make any sense to succeed Italiano.  A higher level coach with at least 2 year contract in order to bed in a new system would be needed. These are not terrible players, but they could be playing to their ability and potential if they were managed better.  Our team is no worse than Macarthur or Newcastle, but they are playing poorly, and have been regardless of who is on the field, for the past one and a half years.

Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

Not because I want us to play like that in general, but how do you play 90 minutes in a game like that and not walk away with a yellow card? I don’t think I’d be able to hold back from leaving one in if I saw Sakai crowing after winning a throw in at 5-0 or Hall going down holding his face after being pushed in the back. Like, how do you actually not try to swing the momentum any way you can under the circumstances even if it means a bit of a nasty challenge or squaring up after a foul to put a bit of pressure on

Been a long‑time follower on here, rarely ever post, and I’m not even sure why I’m doing it now. Not expecting replies or sympathy — just needed to get this out.

I’ve put 17–18 years into this club. I’ve ridden every high and low: the playoff heartbreaks, the false dawns, the rebuilds, the rots, the little bursts of glory, and the absolute horror‑show away days. I’ve even shed the odd tear over the years. I can usually take the bad times on the chin.

But today… today feels different.
Today feels like the lowest I’ve ever been as a Nix supporter.

No ill will toward any player, coach, or staff — they’re human, they’re ours, and they wear the badge. But the performance and the result were humiliating, and I don’t think I’ve ever felt this flat about the club before. Even knowing this team is a roller coaster, this one hit hard.

Still… COYN. :-(

Sorry to say I’m Phoenix till I die, even if Insulin and observer jump me and wash my mouth out with soap.

It means I expect some action.

Chief tried. There’s been some good moments this season. There’s been evidence of pride and spine. But it should have led to this game and attacking this behemoth. That’s how they’ve been beaten. We couldn’t get our forwards in the game. We didn’t threaten or scare them. And then…that OG. And 5-0. Tried. Did not succeed. Next please.

I’m still gunna be watching. But…

Chief out before the presser please.

There’s a bunch of us there with you. More at the stadium around you. The club needs to apologise, buy you all a dinner or something, because the last two years of derbies have been…absolutely unacceptable.

I'm sure how you're feeling is shared by plenty of supporters, on and off the forum. I'll never stop supporting or believing but damn, today is not a good day. To go from basically dominating the game, to conceding the most comical own goal to losing 5 - 0. Someone mentioned Terry selling his soul to a forest pixie (or something?) to get the Nix funding and ended up with the club being cursed? At this point I'm inclined to believe anything to get me through to the next game.

I’m sure this has been mentioned elsewhere but how embarrassing is the pre-game hype video from the club? The tagline is ‘welcome to Phoenix territory’ and it’s a clip from a game which we lost! Has nobody from the club clocked on to how embarrassing it is that that’s the best we could come up with??
We stunned them in that first derby. Set them on their heels. Bloodied their noses. They wobbled through games and lost points as a result. It seemed like a building point. None of that grit was out there today. For us that is.

If Dome doesn’t let Chief go today, then perhaps I’m fine with a back office overhaul too.

Mate, I've been supporting the club for over a decade, full of praise for past coaches, players and staff. I'm entitled to criticize and voice my displeasure. And yeah, I'm having a dig at those responsible for what can only be described as an utterly shambolic, almost dysfunctional,  spineless football club (They can prove me wrong though by sacking the coach in the morning, but I wouldn't be so sure 🤭)

Iagree
Some decent players very much mismanaged and disorganized.  I have to admit Chiefy plays a brand of football unheard of in the football world.  His decisions, his game plans (always changing) and his choice of players and subs at times are absolutely non existent elsewhere.  I believe he got his coaching certificate from the Temu app, cost $10. 57 with free delivery.  However thanks to his acute choice of goalkeeper  he has given us an outstanding Viral YouTube slot.
Thanks Coach for absolutely nothing.  Now piss off

Just make it two derbies next season - One home + One away.

This matchup makes a mockery of what a derby should be.

Word of the night - Untenable ; as in Chiefy's position at the club is now untenable.

Players have a lot to answer for as well because what the fudge was that? It was our big chance to come out and do something in front of a large-ish crowd (I dont have the #'s) against a team that's basically shark talked us, mocked us and walked us down as a club for nigh on two years now, and that's what we get??? Where is the heart? The mongrel? Or hell, even any semblance of a fight? Gutless.

People work their arses off in these times just to afford to pay to come and watch this team, make a day of it in a tough economic climate, buy the gear, the shirts the scarfs, the lot and I pull no punches here - They are being taken for a ride. Who's going back next week to watch?? Doubt it'll be much over 3k, and thats being generous.

I am far more angry than the 6-1 as those results can and do often happen. And once the general anger wears off the thinking only has to be 'surely never again'... It's safe to say we've learnt absolutely nothing between then and now...

I would say good night, but I know everyone who has the club close to their heart is hurting right now, so to that I say, go have a drink!
If the club doesn't off load Chiefy in the next 48 hours, they'll lose any credibility left with the fans. That was a total embarrassment, and the all time low with the group of first dayers I watch every game with. So many left at halftime, just spewing with anger. A real football club would take action now.
None of it was a surprise though.  Auckland just waited for their opps like the good side they are.
Rushing your goalkeeper back for the derby - really ? Now we have 3 disillusioned GK's.
