it could be the case that chiefy wanted better players but the club just said you can only have a couple of low wage foreigners and then you have to play youth for the resell. But chief is playing a type of football that is incompatible with the players he has, and for me, that is pretty telling we need a new coach.imanixsupporter
That is us finished for the season. The people in charge need to be seriously thinking about next season and whether Chiefy is the man to lead us for it. But I honestly don't think the club cares enough about winning to even sound out alternatives. Too happy with mediocrity.
Another "exciting draw" against another struggler. But hey at least the fans got to celebrate a goal, unlike us here in Christchurch recently.
I think this team has peaked and we shouldn't expect anymore this season. A new import won't change that.
I agree with some of the negativity around Chiefs style of football. It's all good when you win, but very ugly if you don't. Do we want another season of this? Given his success last year and all the injuries now I think give him another chance next year. But...
All these refs that aren’t the main ones just don’t know what it takes to referee a professional football match. You can see jack morgans head today spinning in all directions in no control towards the end of the game.
Look we can’t blame the refs for negative football but the last few weeks refs seem so afraid to give pens that would be fouls anywhere else on the field, and the overall consistently and the ease of playing referees is beyond me.

Don’t think anyone was whataboutering- we can be rubbish just as much as the officiating. And we should be beating Brisbane and creating a bunch of chances.
As for the racial attitudes towards diving, as I said you can’t prove it, it’s all circumstantial.
This what guys like Ernie were saying:
Foreign players light up the highlight reel with their play, but diving is part of the football cultures they grow up in, as Phoenix coach Ernie Merrick explained.
Greg O’Rourke: It's un-Australian, it's un-New Zealand, we don't want to do it." IE it’s a thing foreigners do.
So that’s in the back of a refs mind when watching a foreign player claim a pen, that attitude we had.
One of two guys suspended for simulation in the A league was Argentinian in a situation we see most rounds of a striker and keeper in a 50:50. Seb Ryall, a few years later, was let off when a panel saw special evidence.
If you’re saying to me it wasn’t given because it seemed too soft, despite the conditions for a foul being met, to me it feels like there’s some prejudice to foreigners there that’s contributed to that decision. I don’t think it influenced the result of the game, it’s just a terrible call that I’m at a loss to understand. I’m sure the VAR assumed they were showing video of a fact.

Bang a couple in Phoenix! Stop wasting our time.
As for being offensive I wasn’t the one calling our player a diver.
Most people consider accusing the refereeing team of racial bias as more offensive than calling a football player a diver, for anyone playing along at home.
There’s a history of racism against Asian and Latin American players and then there’s trying to justify not giving a stone cold penalty. Remember how a South American was carded for diving out of the blue a few years back?
I’m giving you my opinion that ‘soft’ ‘not really much contact’ etc etc all sound very familiar. It’s not coming from nowhere.
Moreno a Sth American was very lucky to get away with a clear trip on Ikonomidis (an Australian) inside the box, last weekend. Should have been a pen for MAC.
The racial bias stuff is loopy. As someone else posted some refs now seem almost scared to give a pen. Plus it's the A League, with a long history of controversial calls for all teams (except maybe SFC) & creeds.
A South American tripped a Greek Aussie once so there’s no racism in football? Glad we’ve solved it then!
But you’re right mate, A league refs are average for a bunch of reasons, but it does seem like we’ve got the violence out of the league that used to be in it, but also that the game is flowing a lot better.
Sick of watching football and feeling blah. It’s entertainment. I wanna be entertained.

Chiefy didn't think it was a pen (said so in his post-match overview on Sky), the challenge on Ishige. Somebody needs to give our coach a lecture on racism

FFS. So many things wrong with tonight! Ref awful, VAR basically cheating. Pen - ref comes onto the fireld after watching the video, "there was contact, no foul", that's just not how the law works, contact which brought the player down, or impeded his progress = foul! Then VAR decides no handball Also annoyed by our tactics AGAIN!! Lack of clear go forward for most of the game, not until it's almost too late do we run at the worst defence in the league.
But are you being serious or just taking the piss?
If serious, well, it goes right up there with his lucky comment.imanixsupporter

Chiefy did indeed say he thinks it isn't a pen, I'm not joking. Though I also wouldn't discount the possibility that that ref is prejudiced in some way and the fact that Ishige is Japanese influenced his decision, he certainly looked like he was biased in favour of Brisbane given his call that the goalkeeper was fouled and his non-call when Hingert was manhandling Walker. No excuse for those.

Chiefy aslmost sounds like he's given up arguing the point on some of the odd decsions.

Feel your pain me im frustrated as hell i have attended a number of training sessions and they are never as slow moving the ball in training as they are on game day. I just dont friggen get it. Also alot of them are huffing and puffing as if they are gassed early in the game. WTF

We play possession football yet everyone's so bad at holding the ball that even BRISBANE bullies us off the ball. We need new tactics or we aren't making top 6.
Props to Alby the defenders did him no favours. Constantly passing back when he's under pressure which forced him to constantly make quick decisions. Frankly I'm impressed he didn't make a mistake.
End of the day I would've liked my last home game before moving to be a win but it wasn't a loss and that's honestly the least I could've hope for.
Disappointed to not get 3 points but we wern't good enough. Im resolved that this season will be blah! But i dont blame the kids. Piper put in a decent shift. He will be an asset in the future. I certainly am not calling for the sacking of Chiefy. If Rufer,Payne Rojas, Kola etc had not been injured we would not be in the current situation. Maybe getting Payne starting, some minutes out of Rufer and an impact from the new guy will help but its hard to see us getting many points out of the next six games. The derby in Auckland could be grim
What I didn’t understand is how Sutton has regressed.
There were times last season where he really impressed me and I thought he will end up being too good for this league.
But, this year he simply is passing the ball backwards 99 per cent fi the time.
I don’t know if it’s tactics, no confidence but don’t understand it.
We simply don’t have a left attack.
To be fair to Sutts, he is rock solid defensively these days, and he gets very little help up the left. Attacking fullbacks thrive when there is at least someone else vaguely threatening on that side distracting defenders to open up space for a LB to bomb forward. He can't do it all alone. He is far from our biggest problem.
Ignoring everything to do with how we are playing, I'm most disappointed in the lack of a winner's mentality. I'm sure most fans were thinking this was a must win game, all the pundits on the broadcast were saying it was, but Chiefy and the players were vehement that it wasn't. Probably because they have very little confidence in themselves to win the game.
When we went ahead the team should have been really committed to keeping it tight for the next 10 minutes but immediately conceded the chance where Brisbane hit the post and the goal was not too long in coming after that. Apart from Payne, none of the players appeared that motivated to get the lead back. And there was very little disappointment evident in Hughes & Chiefy's post match interviews. Keegan Jelacic came across far more disappointed than them.
I think the team have written off this season about as much as I have and are totally focused on "development". And after that result they might as well do that, because no matter how pragmatic we are now we are not making the 6, we are just not good enough. I hope Chiefy is cooking up a heck of a plan for next season and a good PowerPoint presentation to show Domey and the owners, because he should be fearing for his job big time.

Sorry mate, wish they could've given you a better send-off. But yeah, losing to Brisbane would've been a painful note to leave on.
Also, thats a stone cold definite penalty. 100% in any country in the world. Player running through on goal. Defender raises their leg, misses the ball, strong contact with the attacker. Impeads the attack. Its a foul anywhere on the field. In the box, penalty. Irrelevant about any dive. VAR got it right , ref screwed up
That was frustrating as hell. Fudge this negative football, we’re creating barely anything , which simply unacceptable against the bottom of the table team at home.
That said, that ref and VAR guy need sacking. That was one of the worst refereeing performances I’ve seen. Truly non sensical. Can anyone tell me why we didn’t get the goal or two pens as it wasn’t bloody clear in the stadium.
I thought the subs made us worse today. So disappointed. That crowd deserved more. We are fudgeed.
VAR did nothing wrong - offside is decided by a computer, not him for the disallowed goal.
No issues with the non handball call, arm was in a natural position, he didn't move towards it etc, so under the law, they got it right. We'd be fuming if it went against us.
For the non foul in the box - VAR told the ref to have another look. What more can he do, it's not up to him to make the final call.
Interesting thoughts from Chief on it - ball was gone, he had no control, saw it more as a collision off the ball. Probably didn't help that the ball fell to a team mate who duffed his shot. There was an 'advantage' there not taken.
I have been here a very long time, but don't often post. However I need answers.
Why oh why did Sutton and Kelly heald swap positions, every time we had Lukas forward we looked terrible. At least Sutton can go at players.
The 2nd thing is that we all saw the penalty and if I was watching any other game and team I would have called that a penalty, however watching Chiefy say in his interview afterwards saying he did not think it was baffles me. I know they get fined pretty easy but surely stick up for your team and admit that was a clear foul and penalty all day.

Chiefy is a coach, and probably being diplomatic. Watch the replay Ive just posted. Ishige was fouled when he was approaching the ball.
On a positive note, again I'm impressed with AKH in goal. He seems very confident with his feet, and commands the box nicely. He'll grow into a superb keeper in the coming years, I have no doubt.
And that's it on what's positive at the Nix at the moment 😅

Results aside, our style of football is aweful...
What really riles me is when we have a free kick or throw in around 20 to 25 metres out, and we have to play it back to the centre half who has 20 players in front of him. Thats toilet in my book. Thats not how to play football.
And there isnt even any relegation, there is no reason for this negativity.
In my opinion its having too many coaches and assistants and associated hangers-on pushing negative crap on to the players, with the sole intention of keeping their own jobs. Statisticians, bean counters - they are not needed.
As someone said above, this is supposed to be entertainment
And our free kicks around the box, there was a complete lack of originality or surprise or tactical positioning or movement.
We so badly need Rufer back. We are a pretty decent team when he is there, controlling the middle of the park. Kosta has barely had a decent pass all the time Rufer has been out. None of our midfielders comes close to his defensive positioning and ability. I can't really see how a good attacking midfielder will make much difference without the midfield solidity behind him. Not that I am running down Retre or Sheridan. They were both pretty good today.
