need to get 3 points here to maintain early season optimism and try to maximise points before a harder run of games, wont be easy though... The Roar seem much improved though, under a tactically strong coach & some decent signings!

I'm picking the Roar as a dark horse top 6 side.
Not sure about Roar. Like a number of teams, Nix included, they look fragile depth-wise. One injury to a key player will knock them off their stride. Abubakar is a big loss for them. If Long doesn't fire they will struggle.
Thought Salas was very good and showed all the commitment we saw when he was with the Nix, but I can't help thinking he's a bit wasted at right back.
Obviously too early to come to any conclusions but from what I saw it will be Roar/Nix/Perth/CCM/Jets/Mac down the bottom half of the table. Maybe the Jets a dark horse for me.
The Roar will be very physical. Thiercoach has said they will not lie down this season. So expect lots if fouls
I was watching a season preview video on YouTube the other day, and they were saying there were fights at several Roar pre-season games this year (on the pitch).

Watching “breakfast” on tvnz lots of talk of afc and there 1st home game of season and zero on the nix, they are even going to the ground and interviewing one of the players… I almost hate the nz media as much as I hate afc
Yep dont blame your own PR people...YellowAndBlack

it's easy to pop on down to an AFC training when the studio is based in Auckland, even if AFC invited you to highlight the upcoming home game. Given there is almost zero TVNZ people in wellington anymore I'd expect there'd be a lot more things to arrange and pay for to get the same "oh we just popped in to say hi" kinda coverage for the Nix.

This is a good point. Be interesting to know if they send match schedules or that type of thing to tvnz, infact with the kids go free weekend would of been the perfect time to try get some PR and promote our home game
I am not sure if the arrival of hype and coverage of A-FC is actually eating into any previous coverage of the Nix. We always had little if any TV coverage.
If the hype around A-FC means more coverage for local football (rather than constant banging on about EPL whenever they needed to give football some token air time), than it is a good thing. It would not make Wellingtonians fly to Auckland to attend the A-FC games instead of attending the Nix game, but may improve overall awareness of local ALM football.
Actually, getting outplayed quite a bit these days

totally agree, this new AFC coverage on TVNZ isnt taking anything away that the Nix had already. We've always had zero to little coverage pre, mid or post season. unless its a negative or dire straits story. It's shameful but reality of TVNZ being very Auckland centric nowadays. If the still had the studios in Avalon then I'm sure we'd see reporters at Nix training often.

its why we took games to akl, to get in front of the media. Without flying people up and down the island you don't get as many opportunities.

Very excited for this game. I like the fact that Brisbane are being billed as a team which won't back down and are not afraid of some tough challenges. I would love to see both teams get stuck in. Hopefully Brisbane get their first red card of the season and we go on to clean them up late in the game!!
I'm sure Brisbane will be a great test in general too, I've seen a lot of people putting them in the lower end of the 6 around 4th to 7th on ladder predictions. This game will go a long way to see where we measure up this year.

just so bizarre that the jouno's ask our CEO about a competitors deal with a burger joint. Domey cant exactly tell them to fudge off but if I was him I'd be annoyed that it was even part of the conversation.
Hughes named in the squad. Payne v McGarry should be a good matchup.

Absolutely fizzing! Can't wait for Sunday!
CCM fans said Manjrekar James almost caused a few fights in the friendly against them. With Brisbane bringing back the biff, he might be front and centre at a few of the more heated moments

They should be asking him about Aucklands betcha deal.. Was massively disappointed to see that ad come up with the Auckland players in it.

Whats an Auckland deal got to do with the Phoenix or Domey not sure i understand.
Isn’t that quote from Domey from last season before the first derby?
Yes that was Dome all fired up last season. I can't wait for new attack interviews. The point is Auckland has momentum, what are we doing to get it back?

targeting a win of the W-league by the looks of the stacked team.

Was actually more to do with Sponsors than media
yes, getting greater media presence, which they did with events and getting on breakfast TV shows etc., and getting sponsors front and centre was important.
