What a start from Greenie, 4 games unbeaten, 3 straight wins. I knew Chiefy and his philosophy were the problem, and our players are capable of more. Getting really close to making the top 6 now. It's all on!
brookem wrote: I'll take that! Now the game is over can say I was so so nervous the more the commentators were talking and as it went on. But honestly I'll take that win!
I was having kittens for the last 10 minutes.
I had to result to standing up (was watching in my room) in the middle of having dinner but I couldn't help but stand up. Would've paced if I wasn't having dinner. I was so stressed
Greenie post match said team were heading back to Wellington and not staying in Melbourne. He also said Singh should be back training as well as Walker and Cassidy. I am curious to know where Mileusnic has disappeared to.

Games to come:
Macarthur 31 V Perth, Adelaide, Nix
City 29 V CCM, Nix, Brisbane, Adelaide
CCM 28 V City, Brisbane, AFC, Jets
Nix 30 V City, WSW, Macarthur
If we win our three games then only CCM can beat us to 6th. And they'd need to win all four.
A big ask. But also anybody can take points off anybody. Every side in contention has tough games. And CCM, City, Macarthur and Nix have games vs each other. Starting with midweek after Easter, City v CCM and then Nix v City next weekend. Jets, AFC, Adelaide all have matches vs the 6th place contenders and could be spoilers.

Eze - in my mind as good as we've ever had up front. 00
Agree going to be so PO if the rumors are true and the club let him go without a wimper
Mate there's 0 chance Eze stays, that was probably decided by him and his management weeks ago and I can hardly blame him.

Bloke had played less than 90 minutes the entire season. We could probably get away with leaving him back in Australia at this point...

He’s talking about Rufer. Think ballane has been very clear he knows Eze is offski, despite us all hoping the opposite 😂

I wasnt refering to Eze aware he is as good as gone. Its Rufer im talking about rumour doing the rounds is the club havnt even put an offer in front of him for next season. Friggen criminal if true given the numbers off contract its looking like a massive rebuild job. Hope they arnt going to fill the squad for our 20th season with Academy players
I just watched a replay of the game. When Piper hit the bar from a corner, a Melbourne Victory play had his arms around Piper's neck and then he dragged Piper to the ground. Surely a penalty but no it seems anything goes at corners. If that was Rugby, the Victory player would get a red for a head high tackle.

It’s a pity. I thought that he’d put in honest shifts for us each time he played. Won that pen that James missed.
Deserves better, but I guess that’s football. Armiento can’t feel he’s done too much wrong either, but Greenie’s the gaffer now and we can’t argue with the result today!

Out of interest, where do you think Eze would best suited? While having some strong talents, he is also technically limited. K-League, China J-League even (as a player of contrast)?
Shame for LBS, he did brilliantly to create the chance he then missed.
Armiento with an immediate contribution leading up to the goal.
Certainly the best watch all season never mind the result.
I am so over refs allowing holding and allowing players to be just charged .
Yeah I just saw that first Piper volley miss and the Victory defender was all over him, arm around neck and pulling hard - undoubtedly affected Pier's shot - surely a penalty every day of the week! Anyone else but Piper or Eze would have dived. Unbeleivable how the VAR didn't notify the ref there was something to look at.

If we haven't even bothered then that's insane - my guess is Rufer just wants something different at this stage in his career and there's not much else we can do

His stated goal is Europe, Scotland would make sense considering their ALM obsession.
Going into the game I woilda been very happy with a draw, but as that game went on I was gonna feel robbed without a win as we looked the best squad. I knew a win for either team was gonna come down to one moment. Thank the lord Nixie it was our moment.
Come on you Nix. Let's have finals football dor both squads!!!!
Greenie has done it with hardly any backroom staff compared to the other clubs. I will put my hand up and say I wasn't convinced with giving him the interim job. Still a ways to go but he is winning me over. Hard to argue with 4 games unbeaten.
Hopefully the club can get another visit from Ifill during the week too, I'm sure he provided some robust advice and inspiration. I also hope the womens team are an inspiration of sorts for them too.

I thought it was a stunning performance for us and reminded me of the Nix of old. Nerves of steel in defence. Makes you wonder why Italiano lost the plot in the first place, since these are largely the same players, just different gaffer.
The closer to the final whistle we got the more I was worried Victory players would milk a penalty call in the box, but it never came. Conversely, I thought we could have had a good claim for more then one ourselves but the VAR did not even blink.
When was it last time that we could complain that the Nix were wasteful in front of an open goal? But I will not complain if we win against a top four team from an excellent volley like that.

Mileusnic hasnt really been a factor in any part of this season, sure coming back from an injury but at best he's been getting 10-15 mins at max. BViggest confusion for me is te use of Kartum - he's clearly fit and has the skillset we need to fill the Singh hole!
Still I'll take th win, obviously Greenie knows best.

Rufer is a good shout for the Alex Tobin medal. Before this round he was 2nd 3 points behind Mata and a point ahead of Verstratte. Mata didn't deserve points this game and, I didn't see the post match, Rufer likely would have picked up points possibly 3.

Thinks its a preference for Najjarine over Kartum.
Najjarine was great last night and both Chief and Greenie have spoken highly of his character. I've been whelmed with Kartum so far - he was better last night but still a couple of bad giveaways and I dont think he puts in much of a defensive shift. Will be interesting to see if that goal affects Greenies thinking.
I've been liking Nagasawa as one of the wide 10s and Retre has been pretty good beside Rufer since Greenie took over but if you want to start 2 of Kartum, Singh and Rami then Nagasawa could slot in as one of the 6s instead.

I think overall Nagasawa has been entrusted with more creative role under Greenie, and this is showing in his better distribution. He is also more frequently taking corner kicks than before. Sheridan put in an excellent shift almost overshadowing Hughes with last minute clearances and closing down Mata (with Rufer's excellent support).
I would be happy with resigning Nagasawa, I think it's hard to judge players on their time under chiefy. Greenie has implemented a more standard structure and approach which it is clear the players understand and enjoy and so now we can actually make fair judgements on players going forward. As I've said a million times before, it's a shame this didn't happen a few months earlier.
Nagasawa has been decent but he will be 35 this year and takes up a visa spot. We surely have to aim for better than how he has been over the past two seasons with our visa spots?

Yeah I've come around to keeping Nagasawa for next season, I was just wanting (if we could keep) Eze the only visa we take into next season.
Before I was thinking age would be factor against Nagasawa, as well if we could get someone better but I think he's done really well this season + it would be good to keep some continuity into next season and Japanese players seem to play till their a lot older than most? Unless I'm just making that up.
This is the sort of thing the club's social media team need to be all over.
What's the backstory?
Think it was Clarke who gave itT to Rufer and told him not to return it till we won again in Melbourne. Can you confirm Clarke
Bang on, essentially take the banner and return it next time we win at AAMI.
Safe to say that return was quicker than we expected. Genuinely though, it reminded me what the Phoenix means for Rufs (not just when he took it, but also the fact he bought it back).
Genuine limbs in that away bay and once again a massive turn out, just hope everyone there yesterday comes again next Sunday.

Yep, the best game I can recall seeing from Sheridan. Certainly a world of difference from when he was bizarrely shoehorned into the leftback role with no ability to make more than a short pass with his left foot. I noticed a few complaints that he was recycling the ball too much but I didn't mind it at all. It was a really smart, mature and committed performance from him.
That's my all timer. Can't believe we've never had a kit with stripes on the sleeves again.
Though I've asked if the signature boxed can have an expand/minimise option as I imagine scrolling past all my kits when reading a thread will get old really quick lol
