Issues for me with the Ladies games being played elsewhere. The Car parking!
At Newtown Park, there's not a lot of parking and what there is, is in competition with the Zoo. I'd like to think the Ladies get 500+ crowds (Hopefully a lot more) so that's restricted.
Gerry Collins Stadium suffers the same issue. Car parking is fairly limited on a very busy road. It's also a long walk from the railway station and a debatable bus service.
Where-ever they play needs to have decent parking and or rail/bus services.
It breaks my heart that those Nimby's and die hard Rugby fans stopped the Petone Rec move. That stand that was condemned way before that submission is still being used by the Rugby crowds. It was the place begging for a redevelopment and a 10-12k stadium with terracing at both ends behind any goals and a couple of 3,000 seater stands.
Hutt Rec was another area begging for redevelopment and it probably was a better choice than the Petone Rec as Rail is just a 3 minute walk, Buses galore, ample parking and a Pub/restaurant across the road.
There was a bigger picture in that development, not just for football, but Rugby and League too. Opportunities lost.
I cannot see those runnung the Stadium Trust dropping their rip off fees they charge the Nix for usage. It would be interesting to know exactly what the Nix pay and what the Rugby pays. I was told that Rugby gets it way cheaper.
It's heartbreaking to see fans getting ripped off at the Trust Stadium and the Men's and Women's teams lose out on fan numbers attending because it is becoming too damn expensive. It's not great seeing so many yellow empty seats on TV.
Years ago, I copped a lot of stick by single fans for my criticisms of the Stadium and the Trust. By now those same single people might be married with familes, I wonder if they have changed their minds and can now see what I was trying to say.
Try taking one or two adults and 3 kids to a game - Car Parking, Food, Drink and Match tickets per game. Yes, season tickets are an option but again, it can become quite a significant outlay, especially if you not able to make every game (In which attending every game does it make it a lot cheaper).
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!
The Ruf, The Ruf, The Ruf is on Fire!!
