Rufer brilliant again.
Sam Sutton back to his best.
Pennington - very underated. Deserves another contract.
Salas - taken time to settle but looked the goods when he came on. Sign him.
Do whatever is necessary to keep Kraev and Zawada.

Amazing game. Nothing I can really add from what others have said. The march to the stadium was very fun! We should do more marches maybe?

Would’ve been better if the Jets won but ya can’t win ‘em all I guess. Oh well, onto the finals!

Top game from the Nix. We really couldn’t ask for more in what has been a great season. Shame about not winning the plate tonight. That would have been great theatre in front of a big noisy local crowd. Living in Europe I don’t get to watch the Nix very often but I do have great memories from when I was living in Wellington. A question…… when did booming music become part of the match day experience? It didn’t happen in my day. The Yellow fever sounded loud and proud tonight….. surely they could have created a great atmosphere without hits from the 80s

That was a great crowd to be part of. Well done to the yellow fever, you did a great job, there was even a random separation of chants that broke out in the 23. Still, had a newbie there who absolutely loved it. Showed her what it was about and she thought the chants were brilliant. I was so glad zawada actually stepped up and scored his pen. Bounce for that was brillliant: and props to Kosta. What a guy. Super performance.

So incredibly proud of the team, great showing of 15,428 fans in support.   I'm sure it would have been more if not for KiwiFail/Metlink.

Pleased for Kosta overtaking Smeltzy.  I can't see Adelaide beating CCM so 2nd place it is, dam shame as I was looking forward to seeing The Precious.

Can't help but think, if only Rufer didn't get that red card, if only we didn't let in that 90+ minute goal against CCM, if only Rufer had scored that penalty against Newcastle.  oh well, have to just be a Goldfish.

The chanting and songs have kinda died out a little over the last couple of years, so this season they seem to have amped up the music a lot (maybe with better kit thanks to the WWC?).

Thats not a dig on the fever zone, I think it's more all the chants aren't well known anymore.  So outside of the zone not all of them get all the noise they could have.  I mean take me for example, I go to every game, and spend too much time on this forum, and there are chants I don't even know and have no idea where to go to find the words.

The problem is the people controlling the music just play what they play when they play it, as opposed to feeling the vibes.  The fever zone was being drowned out by the music.

If there was a period of time where the crowd died off, then it would make sense to use music to amp the crowd up.  But the we will rock you song was a great example where they should have eased the volume off and let the crowd take over.

I saw someone mention the trains on FB followed by a “but there were bus replacements” comment that received a laughing emoji. Can someone explain what is wrong with a rail replacement bus? Does it just take forever? Or does it suck for other reasons?

My word. The vibes at the game tonight were insane, surreal. Aside from the Jets disappointment, we played some of our best football ever and that was an absolutely fudgeing fantastic display for all the casuals who turned up tonight. Regardless of the result on Wednesday night, we will get a massive turnout for the semi final, and hopefully some longevity and excitement and growing crowds going into next season.
15,428 tonight. Each and every one is so so proud of what they saw.
Goodnight. I leave you all with this incredible shot. In awe.

Damn it, it's the hope that gets you. It was nice to dream for those 30-40 minutes when they were level in Newcastle.

The irony is not lost on me though, where I am having to support my local club to get the job done on Wednesday, so the Nix can win a trophy.

Heaps.

First is it takes forever.  Going through all the streets to get to each station is painful.  Also subject to challenges like traffic.

Then they normally don't have enough buses to run the same capacity at the same time so you wait around for ages.

Also if you have been enjoying refreshments then the bus is way more uncomfortable to feel swing around all the corners than the train which goes straight.

And in general much less comfy to sit in.

Probably more reasons too.

Anyone who slams Pennington has a tough pill to swallow after last night. He was fantastic. I believe it was his long ranging ball that found Kosta for the opener.

It was Pennington pass, it was perfect. I absolutely love this guy.
Rufer, Kraev, Pennington and Ball in the midfield is a absolute nightmare for every team, rock solid.
Old’s assist for Payne was out this world, too. This must have been a massive sprint for Payne to get on the end of that.
Overall amazing performance by the Team. Can’t wait for the playoffs!

We've played very well on a number of occasions, been resolute in defence on many, but the first half here we looked every part a championship team.

The game showed that Chiefy is a great tactician. Macarthur sits above teams that he would have fielded a defensive lineup against, yet he went with a strong attacking setup. I worried we might get hit on a counter, but Surman, Wootton and Paulsen were very solid.

Great way to finish the regular season off, we did what we had to do simple! Win and win well, especially as we may end up meeting MacArthur in the semis. All we can do now is celebrate our best points tally ever and finishing first or second in the league, best season EVER!
If Adelaide dont help us on wednesday at elast we can make a decent effort to win the finals. CCM's players will hit the wall soon enough, they've played a bucket load of footy recently.

It sucks cause trains can hold significantly more people that the bus replacements do.  One train driver can carry hundreds of passengers, buses are restricted, dependent on their capacity.  It would have forced more people to drive in, then find a parking space and not hope you don't get a parking ticket for your troubles.

Never in my wildest dreams would I imagine us being on top of the table in our last regular season game.  11 points ahead of Victory, 15 ahead of Sydney, the least losses and goals conceded.  It seems so unfair that Mariners will win the plate despite us being on top for most of the season.  Football can be cruel.

I think we are all agreed that tonight was probably the number one lineup just at the moment.  With the likes Salas, Van Hattum and Al Taay as great options off the bench.

So my question is:  If we had a fully fit Zwada, and presumably in the starting XI: Who misses out and what changes needed to formation (if any)?

I reckon we stick with the current starting lineup - it has pace, it has goals and if we need to change the tactic ie bring on a target man you have Zawada waiting.

Agree with the above. We had to work out how to play and win without Zawada and I would not want to throw away that advantage just because he is playing again.
He is an excellent striker, but had mixed performances before coming here.
As a tall man he does not have the natural speed of Old, Kosta, van Hattum or Kraev.  Hence I think he is now an excellent option rather than a main weapon.
As Doloras said elsewhere, we may need to see if he can last 90 minutes and if so what kind of a result he brings.

I don't think we are going to see a fully fit Zawada for the rest of the season. There just isn't enough time. But still a great option for maximum 30-35 minutes if needed.

Great to see us cap the regular season off in style last night. It's been an amazing regular season, and who knows we may still get that plate - I choose to believe!

Glad the casuals got to see goals, exciting play and a hell of a performance from the Fever Zone - Should be able to get a lot of them back for the home semi

I must admit, seeing only 15k was a bit disappointing. 18k would have been nice... Can't have everything I guess.
I just hope we can get at least 25k for the semi. Would be a nice way to cap off the season. If the stars align and we somehow get a home final, surely a sell out is possible. A bit sad that the club gets none of that money but oh well.

I agree with you, however, I also feel your last sentence is the most pertinent comment and one that erks me more than anything - No clubs get a piece of the finals financial action. That money could really set a club up for the next season. Even if it was 25% to each club and 50% to the money grabbers, it would help.

Okay, I've had 24 hours to take it all in.

The crowd were phenomenal. The noise was outstanding in support for the team. It was great to see a lot of the stadium full. 15k looked great.

The team must have been buoyed when they came out at kick off time. Chiefy had the right game plan and line up for the night. They were mincing the Mac Right Back. No one had a bad game. They played as a team full of belief and as one. Is Kosta 34 or 24?? The speed he displayed even very late in the game was that of a 24 year old. He was on fire and Pennington's through ball to him for his goal was outstanding. The whole team gave everything asked of them and I felt they had the game under control for 95% of it.

Like everyone else I was hoping the Jets would do the job and I had SkyGo on my phone and saw them equalise. I was telling fans around me and it snowballed amongst the Zone. That was great to hear the excitement building. It was game on, right up until the 70th minute. Having the even amount of the game, I thought 1-1 would be great, but then they folded.

Driving home after watching a great game that we WON 3-0, I felt like we had lost. But I look at the table and we are top of the League by 1 point. I personally don't think Adelaide will stop them but fudge it, We are top of the league for 3 days and to finish at least 2nd is awesome. 11 Clean sheets, 26 goals conceded in 27 games.

An outstanding season. Thanks Chiefy, Thanks playing Squad, Thanks club and thanks to all my fellow Phoenix fans for making the occasion so great. Semi-final, here we come. Fire up against whomever we play.

And while you’re asking him questions, perhaps ask him how his club got the referees to agree a red card wouldn’t be a yellow for any ref?

Have I got this correct?? On Stuff (The bastian of accurate real journalism), they commented that whoever is the highest placed out of the two finalists gets to host the Grand Final - Another words, if CCM lose their semifinal and the Nix win theirs, the Nix could still have a Home Grand Final, even if we finish 2nd  on Wed night??
