I agree. I've actually felt quite embarrassed lately seeing pictures of japanese pensioner survivors stoicaly going about surviving in the rubble and snow while kiwi's are all angsty about how our own quake ruined our stupid rugby world cup
Japan has enough problems to deal with and i'm sure all the people starving and freezing won't appreciate their powers who betaking time & effort to re-organise a sports game

I think it is the right decision. Would be good to play in Japan if the only concern was around earthquake risk.
But seeing as there are 4 nuclear reactors being naughty and explodey how can you guarantee the safety of the players? Is Osaka far enough away to be considered safe?
I'd imagine if I was in Korea or coastal NE China I'd be a watching those wind patterns with some degree of angst.

japan has over 5000 dead, over 10000 missing, hundreds of thousands displaced with quite a large percentage permanently unhomed, close to a million homes without power in major winter conditions; and millions of people plus a huge part of their land mass at risk of radiation pisioning if Fukushima gets worse...
I think the Japanese footballing public have bigger things on their mind. Plus it makes their govt look even more lackadaisical in their relief efforts to even be thinking about worrying about rescheduling a 'game'

The only downside to your argument stealthkiwi is that it wouldn't have been the govt's job to reschedule the game, it would have fallen on the JFA. Otherwise I can't argue. JFA had already cancelled the game scheduled with Montenegro so it does say something that they wanted to play NZ still.
I hope NZF can keep up dialogue with the JFA and reshedule this match for later on, even at a neutral venue. I think it would be important for the interest of public morale.

Besides the JFA had already moved it to Osaka, where there is very little risk. The team could have flown directly in and out of Osaka.
Going ahead would have been a sign of support for Japan, if that support is not wanted that should have been JFA's call.

I think if the Japanese want to play it, the least we can do is go and give them something to think about apart from devastation and to have their national heroes in the arena as a focal point for some national grief and healing.
Plus they can play awesome footy- if they want to play us we shouldn't say no.

JFA moved the venue from Tokyo to Osaka as it's further from Fukushima and radiation levels I'm guessing haven't gone up from safe.

The stadium isn't far away from where I live actually. I think its a fantastic way for the people of Osaka to support the rest of Japan. A lot of my friends have said they will go along, they invited me to go too.
But I think its better if I stay inside at home where I'm safe. I'm sure NZFootball supports my decision. Hope my friends have a good time though.

Agree with you re showing support, but when you consider that travel warnings are in place by most countries and there is a lot of uncertainty over the status of the reactors, would you as a player be willing to make the trip, and would you as NZF be prepared ask the players to take the risk?
NZF have said it would like to reschedule the match and make it a charity event for both countries. That seems a good compromise to me.

Theyre both largely isolated only to their originating regions of their respective countries. Actually it would be more like from Chch to Wellington and back again almost, thats how far Osaka is from Tokyo.

I'm sure pulling out of the game was the last thing NZF wanted to do, but like people say there are more important things going on over there than a game of football.

The main reason im a little slutted is that one of the two (most likely japan) wouldve seen more of a full strength AWs side, it wouldve been good to see what we could put up against Japan, and still be able to see some of the new guys against China.

How do we know that SK offered a game? Surely this would have been mooted before the Japan match was officially culled and could have easily been scheduled in (the only major AW losses for me would have been Reid and Elliott for a Japan/SK game).

Speak for yourself, I am looking into a skiing trip to Sapporo, that area is unaffected (as is Osaka) prices will be cheaper than usual, I am sure they will appreciate my tourist $ and a friendly face. If I get exposed to minute levels of radiation then to make up for it next time I will decline the x-ray at the dentist.
Of course there are more important things than football, but football is a way to show support, reconstruction must now begin and life goes on.
In times of crisis you need to stick by your mates.
