Is the festival of football the same as the street football? And is it open for outa-towners to show their footballing prowess?  Anything like that organised?  Has the NZFC match been confirmed for a particular time yet?

And is the 4 Kings 10 year old kid friendly?

Street Football is homeless World Cup related and is combined with NZ Freestyle champs as the Festival of Football.  At this stage the Team Wellington game looks like it will be at 16:00 - Newtown already booked, no other venues.

Junior News has spent many (early) evenings at the Kings.  He is now 10.  Post game might be a bit dodgier but during the day no problem at all.

I had a dream last night that I was late for the game, then couldn't find the stadium and ended up missing it, even though I begged blues legend Robert Johnson to magically transport me there.

It was a crappy, horrible, crappy, crappy, horrible, crappy dream.

Not much. Just rock up to the ground 10 mins before kick off
Pubs will all be nice and quiet. No festival football in Civic Square. No singing in the streets. Noone wearing all white. Pretty low key to be fair.

Its no longer a problem.

. Stop eating so much cheese just before bed Cosimo!
Seriously, I had the same thought that all the buses were full & could n't get back from Team Welly v ACFC for the AWs v Bahrain.
As if I couldn't get there inside four hours! Banish that dream.

Media Release is coming and Hard News has done a little flier which will no doubt be put up here somewhere soon

& yes, the bars and pubs will be cranking around the stadium!

Im gonna put that out there, that is a ridiculous time. Finishing about 6-6.15 leaving only 2 hours to get to the ground, town will be heaving, the lines to get into the stadium will be long. Others might disagree but the game should have been at lunchtime to allow people plenty of time to get back from the game and get to town.

Yes.  Fair call.

Unfortunately Newtown is booked for another event earlier in the day and no other appropriate (and practical) grounds are available.

Ideally we wanted it at 14:30-15:00 so people could get from the Festival up there and still have plenty of time to return, but we can't get Newtown in time.

Incredibly disappointing as we were chasing a big crowd.

how about that uruguayan referee? Thoughts?

Botafogo - Rio de Janeiro and Wellington Phoenix, my two teams til death do us part.

Yeah might have to give the TW game a miss, for all the newcomers in the group i think the pub will be more appealing.

What time you reckon you will have to show up at the BackBencher before they put the 'full house' sign up. Or is this Mansfield Street Party still going ahead?

All Aboard the Phoenix/ All Whites Bandwagon!!

Uraguay is supplying ref and rest of the match officials.

Sounds like a real senior ref.....did the France/portugal world cup quarter final.

Would have been nice to have a northern european ref who may not mind the heavy contact so much. Still this guy has lots of experiance so hopefully there won't be any problems

Can anyone enter the freestyle festival?

Running the middle today is Uruguayan referee Jorge Larrionda. Name sound familiar?

Does 1-1 draw and three red cards in the World Cup ring a bell? Mr. Larrionda, who also did the France-Portugal semifinal in Germany, officiated the USA's tie against Italy in which he issued four yellows and three red cards. Seeing straight red on June 17, 2006, in Kaiserslautern were Daniel de Rossi and Pablo Mastroeni, while Eddie Pope was handed two yellow cards.

Sounds like a little bit card happy...

Good news for us i think, especially with the theatrics that Bahrain pput in last time.
27 Oct 14:43 · edited 09 Sep 05:41
Id kind of go with bad news if hes card happy. We play more of a physical game, which is bad with that kind of ref, also Bahrains theatrics will encourage the cards to come out further.

But meh,in the end it has less of a chance of screwing us as the away goals rule (but thats an entirely different thread)

Allegedly

27 Oct 18:07 · edited 09 Sep 05:41
yea i dont think it will have that much a bearing on the game
27 Oct 19:44 · edited 09 Sep 05:41
So Old for a recall? I think it makes complete sense. Drop Mulligan or Scott, and bring him in. Then theres the chance of Brockie too?  Will have to make a big call but maybe even drop both Scott and Mulligan for Brockie and Old. Brockie off the bench will cause a stir up i reckon

I guess if they want to go to a 442 then the problem area is right back. It kind of makes sense to recall Old as he is currently playing in that position in a good comp. but I still break out in a cold sweet recalling some of his defending in phoenix season 1.

But hopefully the guy has progressed and would add something to the squad.

Mulligan and Scott are just too risky....the other option is Siggy. He wouldn't particularly want to do it but he would never let us down playing there. That would leave the experianced old heads of Vicilich and Nelson in CD

That USA v Italy game was brutal, all the cards were well deserved. De Rossi broke McBride's nose with a flying elbow from memory.
27 Oct 21:52 · edited 09 Sep 05:41
yea that de rossi elbow was quite a hit if i recall. quite an exciting game that one. dont care what happens come nov 14 as long as we win
28 Oct 01:12 · edited 09 Sep 05:41
siggy was hinting that the 442 would be deployed with scott/sigmund in rb. nothing said about mully.

ive got a song that wont take long, Adelaide are rubbish.. the second verse is same as the first.. ADELAIDE ARE RUBBISH

28 Oct 02:14 · edited 09 Sep 05:41
I'd have Siggy and Ryan at centre backs and Old at right back. Lochy on the other side obviously. Across the middle would be Super Leo, Brown, Eiliot, McGlinchy. and Smeltz and Killen up front.

Its no longer a problem.

I'm sorry but I just can't get the image of "Old - version 2007/08" out of my head.  He really was catastrophic at times during that season for the Phoenix.

To be fair, he wasn't the only one - I'm looking at you Cleberson and O'Dor - but I would have an extreme degree of nervousness if Old features on November 14.

I share the memories of Old for the Phoenix but I still reckon he had great Olympics and that gave me hope. But, the things is, even though he is playing at right back for Killie I am pretty sure that is because they are short of options there (I get the impression he did well at CB pre-season but got shifted out to the right to do a job, which he has done adequately). He is a centre back in my view and not a bad one, particularly if you want your centre-backs to defend - less so if you want them to play. I would be quite concerned about that speedy left winger for Bahrain running at him and Im also thinking we are going to have to look to our wing backs to play and get forward a bit in Wellington - we need to win - im not sure thats his game.

Having said all of that, I wouldnt be as alarmed as some others if he got the nod.
