any news on fallons injury?
might have missed on other threads, but cant seem to find it
29 Oct 00:17 · edited 09 Sep 05:41
We need a right back, and I would be less nervous about Old than I would about Mulligan and Scott.  Need Siggy to stay at CB, and Vicelich really doesn't have the pace for Fullback anymore.

Ricki spoke to him, Fallon reckons he'll be right for the big game.

Have you got a list of the unchanged squad News?
I have only the entire squad on the NZF website, but not sure who from that was in the squad for Bahrain.

Jeez, Ricki must think Kilmarnock are absolute sh*t if he has Mulligan in the squad over Old
30 Oct 05:02 · edited 09 Sep 05:41
why not just bring old here anyway? then he can let them prove who deserves the RB position.

unless Rickis decided already he's going for the 3-3-4 .

if so we win 5-3.

Cant remember if I have posted this before, but to those going to the games, make sure you take plenty of cellphone footage and post it to youtube.

It will be great to see all the atmosphere and also have a record for future generations.

2 weeks to go!! just sorta got a hit

31 Oct 05:00 · edited 09 Sep 05:41
Rckie also said that Scott showed enough in the Con cup that he could do the business at RB on the 14th if needed.

Big call leaving Old out. our first eleven is good but we do not have a lot of depth. if we have someone like Old who is playing full games in a good profesional level like Scotland then i would have thought they would be at least worth a squad place.

Isn't cellphone video quality crap though?

Having said this I'm not lugging my video camera there.

I will take my brand spanking new iPod Nano and clear all the songs so I'll have enough for hours of recording.

Let the Buzz begin. We need a campaign to instruct those attending a football match for the first time at the ROF on how to cheer the lads on. No sitting there with golf claps, we need noise, lots of crowd noise supporting the guys.

I just hope the lads know the words to our national anthem! (No, not 10 guitars!)
Proud to have attended the first 175 Consecutive "Home" Wellington Phoenix "A League" Games !!

Hear hear [golf clap]

As per the singing thread, I hope someone here can create an ettiquite FAQ/cheat sheet for us newbies helping us know what we should all be doing (shirts off at 80min if the conditions are right?)

Could be a bit chilly around 9:35pm but then if we are winning, who cares, it's the WORLD CUP!!

The only condition is that we are winning at the 80 min mark.  Weather is irrelevant.

You missed the pun in my question. So does the condition apply to this game?

yes - "shirts off for the All Whites"

here's my answer to your implicit question about FAQ sheet for Ring of Fire culture - "No"

the RoF and YF are neither a Lonely Planet destination nor a corporate product  launch

My opinion on this attitude towards the "FAQs" is that it seems a little elitist.

A lot of casual football fans are going to be there on the night, myself an obvious example, and it would be cool to be "connected" in spirit by some degree of coordination.

I don't mean hand out stuff at the game, and sorry if that is what was implied. I just mean some basic info on things are done at games to let groups involve themselves in the fever

and my opinion is that:

if humans can't work out a social situation by observation, then they will continually struggle to move outside the confines of their existing world

the idea of observing and working things out in real time seems a useful social skill, even the web won't make the world perfectly safe and predictable

live a little Grasshopper, don't seek to remove all novelty and the delicious frission of the unknown

Funny response tigers.

I'm not particularly fussed about being in a particular clique (viz. YF), but (and perhaps I'm misguided or naive or both) I do have hope that on this occasion many sections of the crowd can unite as one.

Sure it can happen without introducing newbies to the YF ways but it sure as hell could be a lot of fun if everyone was united in mind.

Anywho.

maybe someone else will respond more positively to your specific request than i feel inclined to

enjoy the match

i expect we do want a same outcome both on and off the pitch (but, clearly, we don't share the same view of the best way to achieve it)

Anyone down in the lower area of Aisle 12 will hear us going flat out for the AW's. Anyone who wants to join in the singing and cheering can do so at any stage. The more the merrier.

Oh New Zealand is wonderful Oh New Zealand is wonderful,
We have the wind, the rain and the All Whites, Oh New Zealand is wonderful!

Sad, I know.

Cheers.

No real "questions" as such, but it would be great to learn more about the ettiquite so that we can feel more involved and connected.

Stuff like the 80th minute shirts off tradition.

In my experience most of the crowd will be quiet and golf clappers. But if people were able to learn just a little about traditions (eg. shhh when the Bahraini keeper takes a goal kick), then I think it will add to the fun of the occasion.

Yes, I could try to "work this all out in real time" on the night, but being prepared means that:

1. I can do my best to get the group of 12 I'm going with to adhere
2. Increases the chances of being able to encourage others in our section to join in also

I don't see asking here and trying to learn/prepare as being much different to people using the forums to develop/agree on chants, etc.

How do you treat Alcohol poisoning...

Someone is going to have to help Feverish when we win.

Ahmed - it's a free world. you can choose to take your shirt off if you like!

But it sounds like you have kids so if you are as proportioned as those that partake in the FZ you might want to think twice before inflicting long-term psychological scarring on the young 'uns!

Now the trouble with everyone singing from a song sheet or whatever is that there will be 35k people watching and only maybe 5k max who will have any understanding/history of either YF or WN culture.

So you might find yourself de-shirting at 80 mins and finding everyone else taking one step away from you... Junior822009-10-31 22:47:18

Dial 1-1-1.  Actually a paramedic is with my group so he might be alright
31 Oct 09:54 · edited 09 Sep 05:41
Honestly i think you will have to play it by ear.  Really depend on who is around you. If you get chanting then you may (or may not) wreck it for a family sitting by you.  But then again you may get other groups around you involved.

Feverish is meant to be putting a list of chants that people have come up with.  Not sure where it has got too though.

Someone needs to hijack the PA system at the 80th minute. Would make a very memorable video that gets viewed highly on YouTube.

Would painting "2010" onto my pasty chest and back ready for the revelation be over the top?

And thanks 2ndBest and junior82.

lets not forget how dangerous Bahrain can be when they play away from home..
They drew nil nil in the first leg in bahrain. then played sublime in the away leg to saudi.

Heres a reminder in english commentary

All whites can win. they just need to be wary of this team.

Not that it will decide the game but some would have you believe that the reason for poor performances at home is the presence and pressure of the Royal family watching.

If that is true, and if it is true that Royal family members will be in attendance in Wellington, then this could be all good.

The AW still need to play well to win of course though.
