Happy to see Lewis there. Think he was a good part of the confeds cup work.

Ingham and Colvey there, but Doyle not is an interesting one.

Doyle has the ability to hit the odd wonder strike or make a wonder run which could come in handy, plus has been starting.

Roux fans will be happy.

Fallon wasted space. You don't have to be in the squad to be a motivator. Bring him in as part of the coaching staff and take a player who might go on the field.

Agree with you 100% there.

It starts to look a bit amateurish on the part of Hudson when he has included a player from the 7th tier of English football -

and on top of that Fallon is injured with a hamstring that his manager says will rule him out for a while:

 http://www.dorsetecho.co.uk/sport/15633877.Magpies...

Could have included a promising young player like Myer Bevan instead - because if we do make the World Cup, we'll need to look at some younger striking options to the geriatric Fallon and Smeltz.

I think Brockie could surprise...deserves to be there on scoring form irrespective of what league is he scoring for..has self belief.

A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen

Bench will be something like

GK: Moss, Crocombe

CB: Tzimopoulos, Durante

WB: Colvey, Roux

CM: Tuiloma

FW: Barbarouses, Patterson; Brockie, Smeltz; Fallon

I think we're carrying too many forwards and should have more CB/CM cover (depending on where Themi plays) in the form of Musa or Ridenton. Doyle should be there ahead of Ingham/Colvey.

You know we belong together...

You're right, forgot about Musa and Patterson whom Boyd should be in there in place of.

Great to have Brockie back. So glad we're gonna have a striker who has scored in 2.04% of his matches for the All Whites back in business. Can't wait to see him take that to having scored in 2% of his matches for us.

Brockie does have a terrible scoring record for the national side, but it should be pointed out that he wasn't always picked as a striker.

I cant stand Brockie, think he is an awful player and he simply has never delivered for the AW's. The blind fanboy faith in him is amusing to say the least.

However I really  hope he scores the winner and he proves to be a big part of us making the WC. Cant see it happening but it would be a scenario that makes me happy. Wish him all the best.

That attitude is probably more important than any selection.

With reflection there's definitely a difference between being part of the playing group (one of the boys), and being part of the coaching group (the group you are trying to impress as a player).

Coaching setup obviously see far more value in Fallon being chief motivator, as 'one of the lads'. Either that or they are trying to save on another extra business class flight ticket expense.

Anyway all in all the AWs squad looks as healthy as can be hoped (question mark over Smith?). Compare this to Peru, who have lost their spirtual tailsman Guerrero, and so will just be starting to feel the pressure has been cranked up again a notch, having had so much WC qualifying heartbreak over the years.

Still massive underdogs, but feeling more hopeful than the prospect of playing Argentina a few weeks ago.

Brockie would probably be a better wingback option than some of the guys we have in those roles.

I know he hasn't played all his games as a striker for the AWs but he's played a fair few of them as a winger as well. And even if he was playing fullback 1 goal in 49 games is probably below par. Especially considering he was free kick taker for a big chunk of it, and has plenty of games against weak OFC opposition as well.

Anyway, of course I want him to do well for the AWs, I just wonder about the timing. Why didn't Hudson give him some game time in the squad and set up coming into this? Once again, Hudson's actions completely contradict the bullshark he spouts. He said everything he was doing from day one was building up to qualifying for the world cup, so why these squad changes right now? Why haven't Brockie and Fallon, and even Crocombe been in recent squads building up to this? Brockie hasn't played for the national side in a year, wasn't taken to the Confeds Cup, but gets brought back for these games? If Fallon is there as a motivational move, how come he hasn't been there in the last couple of friendly squads or the Confeds to try to help build team morale months out? Why was Doyle taken to the Confeds and Japan but left out now?

I think this comment is an example of blind dislike, most people acknowledge that he has under performed for the wall whites, but also acknowledge that he is in red hot form in a league which is supposedly the best league in the continent.

The question is who do you bring to cover Wood? None of our other strikers are in form or playing in good leagues.

I don't think that's fair. No one's claiming Brockie's been a top player for the AWs, but beyond Wood the cupboards pretty bare in term of CFs and he's in the best form of a pretty mediocre set of options.

Everyone knows that Brockie has flattered to deceive on the goal scoring front with the AWs more than even the Phoenix have.

I think there's some resignation.

He used to play a decent role as a wide player, with defensive duties and also scored some crackers for the 'Nix.

He's a striker who can pull some crazy BS out of a bag and score.

Personally I wouldn't have selected him, but now that he has, I think he has to play a part in at least some of one of the games.

The best league in Africa is certainly not South Africa.

North African countries like Egypt, Algeria,Tunisia and Morocco  are much better.

Sorry Im not be a smartass here, but is Brockie really in the team? Perhaps it's a trick to make

Peru think they can bring their Z grade team here.  Im shocked that he is in the team, beyond shocked.

Im hoping its a practical joke of some sort.

Who else would you select? The joke is not the in form striker, the joke is the injured seventh teir striker, or the striker that can't score in Indonesia.

Although i'd back Smeltz to poach something regardless of current form.

So 50% of our six strikers are over 30, and two of those are over 35.

Fills me with great confidence.

I think Hudson has been trying reeeealy hard to not pick Brockie, but with no decent alternative has finally (reluctantly) caved. Surely the most reluctant selection in years.

I'd be willing to wager a house in exchange for $5 if he doesn't, because he won't. Dane Ingham is more likely to score than Brockie. Even Marinovic is more likely. If Brockie has been unable to score against semi-pro and amateur players from Pacific Island countries, what makes you think he can score against the world's 10th best country?

I don't even have any gripe with Brockie, it's just that some players are incapable of performing for the national team anywhere near as well as they do for their club team, like Sergio Aguero. Brockie's fans piss me off more than anything. He's shark for the All Whites, either accept it or be delusional.

that's true in regards to the leagues. So doesn't that then make Brockie's achievement of being named as a finalist as African based player of the year even more impressive as he is in a lesser league?

A good chant from our Away section...

'Oh Peru, 1982, was that it for you...?'

(I can't think of another line right now).

Spain '82 is where it all really began for me. There were a few moments before, plenty of moments after, but that World Cup was the zeitgeist.

Nah, that can't be right or he'd have selected this bloke:

(actually there's two or three more videos somewhere)

not one, but close. absolutely rubbish video at 2:38

Can't find his other one dribbling through Adelaide January 2016...though to be fair to Hudson, Brockie has score 37 more than him in the A league alone....

Brockie has been picked on current form and deserved to be based on that. I have a bigger problem with players being picked based on previous form or their history.

Currently he is our best performing striker behind Wood by some distance.

But that's been true since the the OFC Nation's Cup yet this is the first squad he's made since then.

The Peruvian chartered flight departs Lima today at 6 pm (NZ time) and is schedule to arrive in Auckland tomorrow between 8 am and 9 am (NZ time).

Players from Europe will make their own way to New Zealand

Peru started training with local based and some foreign based players on the 30th of October.

CB Ramos appears fit and was only rested from his club game as a precaution. So essentially only missing player is Guerrero from the coaches ideal starting 11
