I imagine that the NZFA would be relaying the information that they are getting from the players, as I am sure that Nelsen is saying "yeah, I'd love to come back".  I am not sure what else they could have done - advertised a game saying that they probably wouldn't come?

As far as I am aware, no player has actually said that they are not coming back for the game.  In reality, we all know that Nelsen won't and there is a very strong possibility that Reid won't either.  Anyone who thinks different and gets upset when that officially happens is a bit naive and probably believes 9/11 conspiracies

If they are going to pull the pin the better hurry up and do it. If two centre backs pull out you will actually need to bring someone else in (Boxall should have been there anyway imo) and it is almost too late.

Now there is no more excuses....people must show up at this game!!!

Mind you football has now taken a back seat as far as the media goes. Can't believe the wall of eggball news in the media at the moment. Add on the Warriors and the Seth Efrican cricketers on tour and its hard for football to get any light

Scott Basalaj in for Jake Gleeson! Huge call considering Scott hasn't been starting at Under-20 or Under-23 level.

Stefan Marinovic hard done by here. Surely next cab off the rank. NZ Football make some weird decisions.

Well yeah. He shouldn't be. He would've been a great back-up to Pasty at the Phoenix this year rather than Warner

Not really.  Just says that Ricki rates him more than Milicich did.

Thanks.  That's disappointing for him but well done Scott.  Cheaper to fly Scott than Stefan.

Just realised this will be the second time I'll be seeing Jamaica, 1st time was against Canada in a WC qualifier at BMO stadium in 2008.  Was awesome.  Jamaica won that game I think.

Is this another sarcastic friendly match 'locking in' players joke?

Doubt he'll head to Rangers now anyway...

I wanted to get him to sign my Timbers top..

Also see that Jamaica won against Cuba 1-0 earlier today.Azevo2012-02-23 16:54:06

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Marinovich is still getting paid to play whereas Balsasj is still amatuer... although Ricki has shown this doesn't mean anything to him.

With Gleeson and Moss and the above two we are quite fortunate to have relative strength in the goal keeping department. What i wouldn't give for an extra CM though instead.

Good to see Nelsen coming back and a few pieces of humble pie being served.

Maybe I was a little hasty on calling the organisers out, they do a good job. I'm just relieved we get our captain because he really pulls our team together and its good knowing he is there to reign in ricky.

What a waste of time for Nelsen.  I really hope that Reid doesn't go as well.

Good that Nelsen is coming, but I hope Reid stays in England. The more minutes playing for West Ham, the better.

Shame Gleeson won't be playing. chris.acfc2012-02-23 22:35:51

we play about one game a year...sometimes. it does seem a waste of time some players coming back for these games when they need to concentrate on their club football...but...i would never "want" a player not to come back and play.

If we build it, they will come...

Free trip to NZ, get to see his family (assuming they would fly from chch to auckland).  clock up the airpoints.  A few good reasons apart from playing for his country.  It was his decision so he's happy to do it and we're happy to have him.

I think that we can safely assume that Nelsen has racked up a fair bit of money while earning a good number of thousand pounds per week for the last 5 or so years he has been playing in the premier league.  I am not sure that a free flight and some airmiles would be a top priority for him (even if it does mean that he will become a Gold member, and be able to use the club lounge even when not flying on the airline he is registered with).

I mean, it is good on Nelsen at the end of the day. Travelling for 70 hours to play 1.5 hours of football is a good effort. I dont think anyone can knock him for the question of his country vs club commitments. I just hope the altitude doesn't add more stress to his delicate frame

Also hope he gets through the Arsenal and Jamaica game unscathed.

If we build it, they will come...

I am still not 100% convinced that he will be there.  I imagine that he will start on the bench against Spurs, but if any of the other centre backs get injured between now and the end of that game I cannot see him risking it.
