So what do we think a good crowd would be? Keep in mind it is on a Wednesday and there is Cricket on as well

I guess it depends if you are a football supporter or just a part-time football supporter.

If you are old and wise you were probably young and stupid

Even if you are part time you should get out to the game. We don't have a lot of All White Games

I'd love 10k, would be far better on a Saturday or Friday night, there is still just under 2 weeks to go.

We will never fully decide who has won the football.

Not easy to find a suitable FIFA window that falls on a weekend and has decent teams available to come to NZ to play us in a friendly.

We have to take what we can.

"New Zealand Football remains hopeful of attracting a sell-out crowd for this month's international football friendly between the All Whites and Jamaica.

Only around 6,000 tickets have been sold for the match at Mt Smart Stadium in a fortnight.

Chief executive Grant McKavanagh says Auckland is notorious for its walk-up crowds and it's difficult to motivate fans weeks out from an event.

McKavanagh says there's a lot going on in Auckland and it's a busy city but the good thing is the match is on a Wednesday night.

He says they want to send a message to CONCACAF by filling Mt Smart with a parochial crowd."

capacity is 30k,  they got 32,174 for a Warriors game in 1995 though.  It would take a miracle for the Jamaica game to sell out, love it to, can't see it unfortunately.

14k more tickets need to be sold to satisfy me. I'll buy my tickets at the end of the week and we'll see what the PAX is then.

For the Phoenix game the local football clubs were sending out emails, with a link to ticketek, a few times each week.

Maybe they think we have a large contingency of Jamaican fans here??

I have not seen or heard anything about this game, Apart you guys and my local footy club. Very poor advertising yet again
There's an advert on ESPN's Soccernet website, I'm guessing just for NZ viewers? It's a banner right at the top of the homepage.

Also noticed an ad all week on Yahoo's homepage- that's pretty prominent advertising- right on the topright-hand side. Seems to have been replaced by an ad for Lady Gaga's forthcoming NZ concert today though.

However, there's still a banner advertising the game along the top of all of Yahoo Sport's football pages with a competition to win tickets: http://nz.sports.yahoo.com/football/

YES!!!! I've just been on the phone to Sky and I got a customer services guy who likes football and knew about the game- he asked the sports department and they confirmed:

SKY ARE SCREENING THE GAME- ALMOST CERTAINLY LIVE!!!

He said they will have details of which channel it's on later in the week....

Phone them on 0800 759759 later in the week. It's always good to badger them about football coverage anyway...

Tbh I'm not concerned if Auckland gets a small crowd, that just means the likelihood of Wellington getting more games increases!

I think it's time the south island got some games.  Wellington didn't turn out a big crowd as expected when Paraguay came here after the world cup.  We have a regular diet of football with the Phoenix so I think Dunedin should host the All Whites next.

New Zealand Football have signed a four match deal with Sky Television to broadcast All Whites home games in New Zealand.

February 16, 2012

AUCKLAND New Zealand Football have signed a four match deal with Sky Television to broadcast All Whites home games in New Zealand.

The deal includes this months ASB Summer International against Jamaica and three World Cup qualifiers in Stage 3 of Oceania qualifying assuming New Zealand progress past Stage Two the OFC Nations Cup in June this year.

The Stage Three matches home and away ties between the top four nations from Stage two will be played in the upcoming October, November and March FIFA windows, with the winner progressing to an intercontinental playoff against the fourth best CONCACAF team in November 2013 for a place at the 2014 World Cup.

New Zealand Football Chief Executive Grant McKavanagh hailed the agreement as great news for All Whites fans.

Weve had a good meeting of the minds with Sky and weve come to an agreement over the value of, and interest in, the All Whites on the Road to Brazil, said McKavanagh.

The most pleasing aspect is that weve got a longer term arrangement which give us and football fans a degree of certainty.

Theres no substitute for being at a game and well take games around the country to give as many fans as possible that chance over the next two years. However, the agreement with Sky is great news for fans who cant watch their national team in person.

New Zealand Football has retained rights to on-sell coverage in overseas territories and has also retained off-shore internet streaming rights.

Nice, should mean coverage here too.

Maybe Sky could be tempted to cover a live grand final of the local league too?

So, what about the oceania cup matches and the away matches of stage 3? Anyone going to buy the feed, assuming on tele in the islands? Last time we got fiji away (tvnz online think) and new cal away (might have been sky) but nothing for vanuatu away or the dead fijian rubber rescheduled to Fiji on account of Winston peters.

I get really sick of NZF bleating on about money and the cost of these games and how confidant they are of a full house.etc. What happens is that the crowd/money thing becomes the media story. Anything other than a big crowd is seen as FAILURE.

Just like prior to the Honduras/Paraguay games the biggest news story was the small presales figure. NZF should just shut up about this stuff and concentrate on promoting the game properly. The money stuff is for the back room suits to worry about.

Not one single person will go to this game because its costing the NZF loads to put it on. NZF obviously don't understand marketing. People will go to this game because they support the AW's and/ or they wan't to see the likes of stars like Winston Reid and Nelson etc or they think it will be an exciting night out. They need to shut up about the costs and start get some positive publicity around the event

People don't turn up to support NZF as a charity.

As you say, they want to see the All Whites play, and win!
