Gleeson
SigmUnd Reid Nelsen Lochhead
Vicelich Keat
McGlinchey
Smeltz Wood Barbarouses
In my imagination the front three can swap places around to confuse defenders and create more width if need be. Keat gets a chance to show what he's got and whether he can play as a holding midfielder, with Vicelich beside him to take a bit of pressure off. Gleeson to start to get experience in a friendly game so he doesn't get thrown in the deep end in a competitive game due to injury or suspension later. Siggy at right back just because his form has been so good this season he deserves a start, and there's no natural RB in the squad (of course that probably means Ricki's planning on playing 3 at the back, but this is what I want to see)

Probably right, but I really hope not. Having a back 3 means you need fast fit wingbacks to provide attacking width AND cover the defence. Bertos and Lochhead can't quite manage that so they just end up pinned back in thier own half and our attacks deteriorate into long balls up the middle. Ok against much better teams to try and absorb pressure and snatch goal, but vs the likes of Jamaica at home I would hope that we would play with a back 4 so our attacks can be more multi-dimensional

I think it was the Olympic qualifiers he said he wanted to miss (which is fair enough as they are not in FIFA window.)
Edit: sorry 2B, you beat me to it. Although it looks like it may need some reinforcing anyway

Edit Again - proof: tommy smith happy to hold off olympic dream to help ipswich
In that article he also says "We have got a friendly with the All Whites first team on February 29 (against Jamaica) and I hope to be selected."aitkenmike2012-02-09 12:19:37
Bit worried now that Capello has gone from the England coaching role, and that 'Arry has been cleared of tax evasion and is being tipped as a possible England Coach, that things could get a bit tricky for Ryan.
Much as i would love him to come back for the Jamaica game, I wonder whether it might be best for him to stay and try and cement a role in the Spurs squad?
someone please explain!
against honduras and paraguay ricki opened things up a bit by playing bertos and brockie as wide midfielders as opposed to the wing backs that were deployed at the world cup

Dates back to heated discussions trying to explain to people that friendlies don't 'lock' players into playing for that country.
A small town in Europe........looking to bounce straight back up....well that aint going to happen
Daniel is also off contract at the end of the season and, after a long stint as a specialist benchwarmer, the 32-year-old seems to have a new lease of life playing alongside Sanchez.
The left-footed midfielder is one of five survivors from the inaugural Phoenix season in 2007-08, along with Mark Paston, Tony Lochhead, Tim Brown and Vince Lia, and, already a New Zealand passport holder, becomes eligible to play for the All Whites next month.

I'd like to see something like this, with lots of time for Keat, Marco and Kosta. Second half to Gleeson perhaps.Oska2012-02-09 16:49:37

*These substitutes should get some good game time, especially Keat. The others should get a run out too even if just the last 15-20 mins.

What rationale is there for playing an A League striker at RB?????

This is probably closest. If we are going to play with a psuedo-DM in Brown, you've got to cover that with Nelsen and SigmUnd in the middle to allow for an attacking front sector. The widemen roles are probably the only real spots up for debate. I think if it's Brockie, he is on the right. I think Rojas is on the left purely cause he can play both wings where as none of the others can. Leo did at one point play the maverick role but those days are gone.

Quite right, there isnt. He has played his way in by being up front, needs to be further up.
