"Under-17 striker Tim Payne and goalkeeper Scott Basalaj will play in their second World Cup in six weeks, while Blackburn midfielder Cameron Lindsay and Waitakere United striker Sean Lovemore will also get the call-up.

"It's a strong squad and it will perform for New Zealand," Milicich said.

"We have tried to produce players who have the potential to kick on to the under-23s and All Whites."

Great to hear that Payne and Basalaj will also be included. I'm interested to see Cameron Lindsay and Phoenix hopeful Sean Lovemore.

A shame about Wood though, he's the missing link up front,

Definately not anywhere near as good a team as I was expecting.  Some quality but am worried that players who are not even in NZFC sides have been picked.  I really hope these boys prove me wrong and do well. disco_mart2011-07-11 20:54:51

Some of them are in National League squads. I know both Basalaj and Turipa were bench players, but neither says Team Wellington or Canterbury United.

Ah the bulk of the guys that did well in Korea are there so I think we should be fine but I do kinda go when someone like kramer pops up but they seem to be producing some good kids at Melville so will see.

As a Waikato boy I'm stoked about this but still worried until the friendlies here and in California have produced some decent results and allayed my fears.

Something the club should rightly be proud of.

Good to see a strong Wellington representation in any national team.  Having a local DoF as the assistant coach can't hurt when it comes to keeping on the radar for selection either!

Jamie Doris' club Hibs were very supportive of his national team duties. The team's physios did a lot of work to help him get fit for oceanias after being out with a broken leg.

I'm curious to know why our two potential targets in Germany were not discussed. I'm positive they would have had an impact on selection. Perhaps their applications to represent NZ were denied?

We will play 4-4-2
The 4 boys overseas are seen as starters
Does that make the line up

Am surprised by a couple of the omissions, notably Chettleburgh.

I have always been a big fan of this guy - great work rate, nice shot from distance and for him to suddenly fall out of favour completely and not even be considered for a bench role is really surprising.

I know we have a lot better local players now than in the past... but i do question the ability of some especially if they at 20 have still not being picked up overseas.

Hobbs, turns like a tank and couldn't pass wind... how does he keep making the team??

how could we send a team to a world cup with only about 50% of the players even good enough for the national league?iloverojas2011-07-13 12:09:04

When in the past have we sent an under-20 team that's been filled with National League starters and overseas professions?

The answer is never.

A lot of guys missed out and two of the midfielders brought in were Cameron Lindsay (Blackburn) and Sean Lovemore who has played in the A-League for the Phoenix. Excuse me if I'm wrong, but that sounds like two great additions. Some of the omissions barely played in qualifying, some without even getting any game time. Chris Millicich has obviously seen what he does and doesn't like in players and made some changes.
