Really? Do you really think you'd be overflowing with nostalgia watching NZ v Solomon Islands, on a Wednesday, with 30,000 fewer people than in 2009?

yep!

Nine of those teams still in with a decent shot at making the top 6 imo. Will be interesting to see how things develop, especially given that we can now watch many of these games on Watch&Bet.

How can we draw with Italy and Paraguay and yet lose by 2 goals to New Caledonia????r

Or maybe you should be asking, if we can draw with Italy and Paraguay, why New Caledonia shouldn't be able to beat us?

Both situations are freak results, if we're completely honest with ourselves.

Agreed - its great to be the underdog who randomly gets a result against a way better team, but it sucks when you are the better team and can't beat a team that you really should. That's football though, and because its a low scoring sport there's always more chance of an upset than in, say, rugby.

Having said that though, none of our performances were convincing. If we had looked better in general but still lost I think the angst might not have been so pronounced. The fact that we could barely beat any of those teams we faced is much more worrying than a loss against inferior opposition taken in isolation.

Did anyone really expect us to beat them comfortably though? An upset was always possible,I thought.

There are never too many easy games, but I thought we should have bolted in.

We should have bolted in.  Yes conditions were difficult but our team is full of professional players.  They should be able to overcome those conditions and as Wynton Rufer once said "make the ball do the work"

Poor effort by our players and I think some of them will have now played their last game for NZ

If it's during semester then Dunedin should get at least one match I reckon.

Games will be played between 7 September 2012 and 26 March 2013. ChCh should get one, chance to show them a little love and play at the new stadium there.

Just out of curiosity what is the capacity, and is the magnificent effort of building it currently being entirely wasted on eggball?

Regular Match Capacity: 17,991 seats (11,140 covered)

Test match capacity 25,231 seats (11,140 covered)

Bit hard to find offical figures, but seems they have been close to the 17k mark for 3 games and around 21k for the Southern Derby from match reports.

Can assure you every single seat in the FBS is covered.

A tinge of bias I know, but I'm confident Dunedin will get a game.

will be conducting the draw for Stage 3 of FIFA qualifying at 2pm today.

Hopefully this means they are announcing venues etc so we can plan to be at the home games, but it sounds like they are just going to be working out the order of the fixtures.

EDIT: Just announcing the schedule of the games, NZF will announce venues later.

There is 6 games to play, and 3 windows. Hopefully they won't do home & away in each window. For the Nix's sake, I hope we can get 2 of the away legs out of the way in the window before the A-League starts.

Draw for next round of OFC World Cup qualifying about to be made. Games Fridays and Tuesdays. One home and one away in each of 3 windows.

I'm reasonably confident Dunedin will get a game. First one would be ideal. Second one is during uni exams. Third one is reasonably close to Phoenix game.

Actually scrap that, its 5 days before egg ball test vs the saffers, so 2nd game will be the pick.

I think the 26th of March is Otago Anniversary Day, so having the game on the 22nd v New Caledonia would be pretty cool.  Do uni holidays fall around then?

No holidays around then. My only fear is that Dunedin won't be able to get behind 2 big football games in the space of a month.

Simple - move the Nix game to ChCh and Otago hosts the AW game.

So two Tuesday home games and one Friday home game. Good to see NZF weilding their considerable influence in Oceania again! Can almost guarantee they will go to Auckland with the Friday game, hoping that Wellington and somewhere else will front on a Tuesday.

And geez that 5 months between match day 4 and 5 is going to seem like an eternity.

Are the venues random too or just the matches. I would have thought the home team would get to chose their venue on a match by match basis.

Yep, I think you are right there timmy. NZF would have had tentative plans in place, now they just need to finialise them and let us know so we can plan travel etc.

Just matches.

NZF will go to councils/stadiums to see who what's to host what and go from there.

Yeah, but every team plays one home game and one away game in each window. No reason why NZF couldn't have pushed for our home games to fall on a Friday (maybe they did?). Suspect it will have a much more detrimental effect here than in the islands where they don't have any decent telly on a Tuesday. Two games on Tuesday will probably cost NZF about 5-10k x $30-40 in lost revenue for each game. Charlie Dempsey would have 'fixed it'. Re-spect.

If we can't get the A-League games moved, hope they played the Friday 22nd March game in Wellington. We have an A-League game the next day at home, maybe we will be able to use some of the Nix players off the All Whites bench.

ChCh missed out on some Nix love, so hope they get an All Whites game. Hamilton hopefully will get the other.

I'm not sure the White Noise/Yellow Fever Zone will have recovered in time...

Grant McCavanagh on the radio todday gave me the impression Welly wouldn't necessarily get one of these three.  Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, New Plymouth were all mentioned and seemed more likely than here.

Although that did suggest the play-off should we get through would come back here.

Disclaimer: This was all interpretation, a different listener may not have read the same between the line items I did.

I know that New Zealand will play at Stade Numa-Daly Magenta, NCL, Stade Pater Te Hono Nui, TAH and Lawson Tama Stadium, SOL. I would play the 3 home matches at Mount Smart Stadium.

Any news for August and November friendlies? I know 14 November will be China away.

Why the fuck would you do that? It's best for everyone if these games are spread around the country, and if you are going to have them all at one venue, why Mt Smart? Surely there are far better options both in and outside of Auckland.
