If NZF are going to charter a plane to get us(and opposition) to NZ then it will probably fly Central America to USA( LA) and then to NZ.
If the idea is to minimise the travel time then its more likely that the match will be in Auckland. On account of Wellingtons airport being too ferkin small for a big jet to fly into. If they come to Wellington it will mean transiting in Auckland and then getting two squads of 25+ each down to Wellington. Maybe they have delayed because they are still working on the charter plane deal.
Just a theory.
Personally I think offering the CONCACAF playoff opposition seats on our charter plane is the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. Talk about giving your opposition an easy break. Our one big advantage for the second leg would have been if the opposition had to spend half of the 3 or 4 days sitting in airports, transiting on commercial flights getting to NZ. The way it is going now NZ will have to fly up there for the first leg, get adjusted to local conditions while the opposition relax in their buildup. Then we have to turn around and fly back and have offered our opposition a no stress journey back to NZ. OK NZF is trying to save money....but duh! We are not giving ourselves the best chance. No way would Australia give these suckers a break.
Why doesn't NZF talk to the Govt about chartering the NZ airforces Boeing. Its normally used for VIP's etc. Considering the Govt gave the Americas Cup team a $35 million dollar handout the least they could do would be to give NZF a cheap rate for the plane. Also what about trying to get sponsors on board to help with the charter....I know a couple of businessmen who are spewing that we might give the CONCACAF team an easy ride to NZ.
