Bit disturbed that talk is of Lochhead only turning out for team wellington - I suppose without an Aussie passport it's more difficult to get into Asia but surely he could get a gig in Thailand etc

That'd be good for the image of the ASBP.

Ticketek is telling me this when i try to buy tickets in the white noise both covered/uncovered. Is this them saying they have sold out? anyone?
  • Sorry, we're unable to obtain the ticket you requested. This is either due to Ticketek's allocation becoming exhausted since you got to this page as other customers may be in the process of completing their transaction on all remaining tickets, or the number of tickets you requested is greater than the maximum available adjacent seats. Please try again.

Yep. Sounds like the White Noise zone is sold out.

I hope they haven't sold all the white noise tickets in the first pre-sale.... anyone know if they are keeping any for the second pre-sale?

You can buy them one at a time, as there are no longer seats together. If you phone up the premier ticketek on 04 384 3842, you can still buy multiple tickets, just not together.

I don't see why they cant allocate more than one ticket at a time online, even if they aren't together, I suppose it means you have to keep paying the booking fee each time!

The pre-sale concept with a 'secret (yet not so secret) code is actually a really cunning idea. It makes people who haven't been offered the pre-sale think they are going to miss out, so they ask around about this code, which by this stage is not secret at all and gets passed around to every man and his dog who then rush in to get as many tickets as they can telling their mates "hay mate I have the pre sale code, you keen on tickets before the general public snap them up?" While adding a few spares on to the total - there are people doing this - and before you know it 16k sold in a few days. I know this was exactly the plan I just wasn't convinced it would work as well as it has, but what do I know about marketing strategy etc!

Had no problem getting a block of 15 tickets in Aisle 23 (3 rows of 5, all together) right where we normally sit. What's more, the 15 tickets arrived in my letterbox this morning just 2 days later.  Now, if only the Nix Tix would be that easy.

A good what? I was shown the powerpoint slides at my old job when I had a conversation with someone heavily involved with the planning. It broke down the various stages of the ticket releases and a bunch of different marketing angles. At that stage it wasn't all locked in but it looks like they are following most of it. Not worried if you don't believe me.

How did you manage that?
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

great to see mexico in good form this morn, beat ivory coast 4-1, hopefully they take that into their next qualifiers. We do not want them slipping down the concacaf table.

All of my tickets arrived by post this morning  - was very surprised as ticketek had originally said to allow 7-10 days for them to arrive! Very happy.

Well I've done my bit to support the strategy and got a few from the workplace to get in early.

Had a push with the Jnr Jnrs football team.

Also know of others (not the nutters on this forum) who are buying/have bought.

Looking forward to a whiteout and chance to wear the Nix away strip (in my alter ego as Hatter82)

Hope the Westpac Stadium is free of major damage after the earthquake a few days ago.

Contrary to some sketchy media reports, no actual engineering assessment of the structure has been carried out yet.

At most, only a superficial visual inspection has taken place and that really has no relevance to assessing the stadium's safety.

Your quakes have not been anywhere near as big as ours in Christchurch, so it'll probably be okay - but there's no guarantee...

Experience in Christchurch is that a lot of significant structural damage is not visible to a cursory inspection.

I saw the AMI Stadium in Christchurch a day after the Feb. 22 quake and not much damage was visible to the stands -yet they sustained major structural damage and it's not economic to repair them.

This on the Westpac Stadium website: http://westpacstadium.co.nz/update-following-earthquake-of-16-august-2013

"Engineering assessments on the building itself are being carried out on Monday 19th August.  The Stadium building will remain closed until these have been completed."

The All Whites qualifier won't be happening there if there's any significant structural damage - and the Phoenix will be in the s**t too...

Fingers crossed that alls OK. The stadium is built on dodgy reclaimed land.....it would not take much for parts of it to move in an earth quake and lose its structural integrity.
Where would the Nix play if it needed repairs and was out of action for 6 months??? The Basin...???? It would take the Council 5 years to grind through Resource Consent to get a temporary venue up and going.

Liquefaction was the key factor in the damage to Lancaster Park, no?

I am not sure that 25,000 rugby fans sitting on their hands is the equivalent of a sold out White Noise

Both the pitch and the stands are stuffed at "AMI"/ Lancaster - liquefaction munted the pitch and there are cracks in the stands - one stand, the Hadlee Stand has already been demolished. The remaining stands could be repaired but it would be uneconomic.
AMI in Chch wasn't built on reclaimed land, just liquefaction-prone land -  but reclaimed land is also notoriously prone to liquefaction - most damage in urban San Francisco in that region's last major quake in 1989 was on reclaimed land in the Marina area etc. very similar to the Wellington waterfront. Info. here:  http://earthquake.usgs.gov/regional/nca/qmap/
From the website of the engineering company who built Westpac Stadium:
:...inherent challenges included a site on a narrow strip of re-claimed land close to a major earthquake fault line. This required four months of preparation with vibro-compactors to prevent liquefaction during an earthquake."

Last time in Wgton for the qualifier was fantastic. Flew up in the morning, heapsa pubs, streets filled with people, a homeless world cup, it had everything.

Have there been any thoughts by the Council or YF as to what is going on this time? Obviously being a Wed ruins it a little, but still!

I see those in the know did a great job of booking the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club to play the night before, but what else?
