Sorry should have added Russell Kamo played his 50th game for Canterbury United last Sunday against Auckland and has also netted 30 goals

Don't believe the glossed over version. Canterbury Dragons have played way better than they did today. Took a couple of early Christmas presents from SU defense.
Keith very quiet, not like him at all with the Collett sending off.

Cheers, thanks for that. If Keith is quiet the Southern coach must be the same.

I really rate Collet.  Have done for a while.  I hope people don't get on his back for this one even though we've seen it before.  A guy beats him, or looks like he's going to beat him, and it's bang - he's in. Someone please tell him he doesn't need to do that.  Even the best defenders are going to get done now and then.  Julyan…take a breath don't dive in pal there's no need especially when you are 3-0 up and cruising.

He didn't dive in probably a little unlucky a coming together of bodies going for the ball.
The SU kid stood on the ball and tripped over, having got past Julyan he would've got a shot away and no red card.

Crowd of 150 in Invercargill according to the ASB Premiership website  - woeful !!!

No more ASB games in Invercargill then!!!

Relieved at a Canty win - 3-0 is very good when people say  we didn't play well...

Looking forward to seeing this new striker Chris Bacon, when his clearance comes through - a really prolific scorer in non-league football.

Canterbury at home to Wellington, Sunday 2 pm.

Wellington always have a good side on paper but have never really delivered.

Not that Canterbury have been all that good this season so far. Maybe they've turned the corner with last week's 3-0 win over Southern (but even Southern supporters suggest anyone would beat Southern at the moment).

Think Canterbury should click soon - have been bedding in several new players.

Will be there.

Any news on the Canterbury line-up?

Good win, third clean sheet in a row. Canty awarded a penalty for a trip in the first ten seconds of the games which Aaron Clapham rifled home, in of the post when scored a double when allowed to run into the area after 27 minute. Team Wellington had three or four chances to tackle Clapham but he was allowed to keep running and score.

The Dragons hit the post twice after this with TW suffering from some very poor finishing, and when a player down when Cole Peverley (a former Dragon) received a second yellow to claim an unusual double of being sent of twice at ASB in suceesive season with two different clubs.

Plenty of Canty players had good games  and are now third on the table.

Followed up with a good 3-2 thrashing of Waitakere. 2-0 up at half time following the best 45 mins of football I've seen from the Dragons in a long time. Awesome goal from Bhoys free kick to make it 3 zip early in the 2nd half then the game became error ridden before Waitakere got a sniff through some ping pong in the box and a physically fading Dragons side who threatened to concede several more before Waitakere got their second with about 15 to go. Highfield saving their bacon more than once combined with some poor finishing and woeful option taking gave the Dragons all 3 points. They'll need to stay away from the Xmas pud though if they want to be finals contenders.

Liverpool could only get one player in the England B squad Richard Money who only gets off the bench in one game.

Anorak's trivia note; Keegan was on the cover of the 1978 tour programme (the same programme was used for all tour matches, with just the centre pages changed) - but he wasn't actually on the tour.

From memory the tour lost the NZFA about $40,000 too.

If I hadn't been a 13 year-old living in Nelson, I would have gone to those matches too.
Yeah, bit of a laugh having Keegan on the program cover - I can imagine serious sorts with thick spectacles in overcoats going to the ticket office: "Excuse me, is Kevin Keegan playing? If not I'd like my money back  - or at least a 20% refund since I calculate the side is 20% weaker without him..."
I knew the names of those England B players only from "Big League Soccer" on TV Sunday lunchtimes and reading "Shoot!", "Match Weekly" etc. Some legends of the day though like future European Cup winner and 30 cap full England international Viv Anderson, Gordon Hill (over 100 games for Man Utd) whose son Sam played for Otago United in 2006-7, Corrigan, Kennedy, Talbot, Roeder, Hollins, Mariner....
Wow! Losing $40,000 in those days would be equivalent to losing hundreds of thousands today...nowadays the average wage of those in employment in NZ is $55,000 per annum - I bet my dad was earning a lot less than $40,000 in 1978.

Scrappy 1-0 win over WaiBOP. Goal scored just into the second half: one of the centrebacks (think it was Tom Schwarz) hit it forward, the wind caught it, WaiBOP keeper started to come out but changed his mind, and Marquez slotted it near post. WaiBOP put a lot of pressure on the United defence in the last third of the game. Highfield made an excellent reaction save to keep the lead.

Almost felt like United had planned around having the wind at their backs for the second half, and when it died down for a large chunk of it they weren't 100% sure what they were doing.

Canterbury looked decidely average today, as if still recovering from too much Christmas pud. Young Shawn O'Brien started and had good game. Looked destined for 0-0 until Marquez's cracking bullet finish. Then that save from Adam Highfield was class. Big talking point today was the fourth official telling the Canterbury bench to settle their supporters down on the bank behind the dugouts. When poor old Martin gestured to them to settle down, was quickly yelled at to go away and sit down by the Canterbury fans ... They did quiet down when the big burly security guard ended up standing by them.Did not hear anyone gesturing to him to go away ;) ...

Yes plenty of drama today at the football, and not all on the field.  For me, as an avid observer and quiet person in the crowd, the fact that the referee, who tells his fourth official, to tell the Canty manager, to tell the crowd to stop cheering on their team was completely random.  Yes it can be intense, but as long as it isn't offensive then play on for the fervent support.

But it was a good game with a good result.

Great having football to watch over the summer. I even chose it over the cricket today too.

Got to agree it was quite bizarre of the referee.  And an A league referee at that.  Canterbury United officials etc need to start realising that the fans are an asset to the team.  There was certainly nothing offensive - always seems to be good banter.  I have heard teams are envious of the rousing support from the vocal fans down at English Park.

I heard today that Canterbury United officials had allocated people on the bank to 'keep an eye' on the supporters.  To use someone's daughter to text and tell feedback is a little desperate.  The big burly security guard seemed to enjoy his time on the bank and even joined in the banter with a few comments.

Keith came over to a few supporters as they were leaving to apologise for what happened and said to keep up the support.

Good score to Keith for doing that. He knows full well that we have the best and most fans of any team in the ASB Premiership. Keep it going guys.
Good work by our Southern neighbors taking 3 points away from Waitakere.
