Obviously but why go for the English look at the national 'overrated' team. go for germans, Spanish or Brazilians. just think he has had his time and now for someone else to have a go
why was marsland, bacon or wellbourne signed then released? just shows that there's no other plan in place for when kamo is out injured/suspended. why not try something different and give yammamoto a go or the boy alex pac from western who has scored consistently in mpl. dan ede or wiremu peircy could do a job as squad players also but it seems imports from uk are instantly ahead of local lads. no wonder yammamoto moved to auk and the others appearing less and less in mpl.
I'm sure the reasons around selection are not single-issue.
What other reason could it be? all 3 of boys that were mentioned not in squad have scored heap of goals in mpl but never given a chance
In actual fact they have all had a chance. Marsland and Bacon have not scored a heap of goals in MPL as you claim while Welbourn is still recovering from his broken ankle. Think about it.

Some of the new boys with no local football history brought in by Keith have been average at best. At least 3 this year as mentioned in posts, these slots could have gone to average MPL players if not those with a history of performance.
On the other side of it is that not every player wants to play for.
Yip as long as you can say 'by gum lad' you are in.

Probably our worst home display of the season, very disappointing. not a good time to lose our first home game of the season. Still one home loss in 14 games ain't too bad overall.
Thought Hawkes Bay deserve to be second in the league - the best-organized side we've seen at English Park all season. Very quick to close our players down and nullify all our attacks.
Waitakere game should be on Sommet Sport next Monday evening. But can't see it scheduled on their EPG yet. So, I'll avoid the score and enjoy (hopefully enjoy) watching the game on the tellie. They've screened all Waitakere's home games so far this year.
Contact Sommet Sport on their Facebook to ask about when they are screening the game:

A draw will do, so still a lot to be positive about.

Hoofball is great - guaranteed to outpace any defence and win any tackle .You try stopping a horse!

lost 1-2
what happened?
Well fook.
Canterbury started well and dominated early. HB then scored with their first and possibly only attempt in the first half.
HB were extremely well organised at the back, constantly having all 11 behind the ball.
Canterbury didn't take their chances today and HB did.
Ref Conger made some strange decisions at times and let a number of fouls particularly on Clapham go unpunished. Looked like he was not watching at times.
Also Keith B made a tactical mistake IMO, by subbing both Mitchell (at half time) and Morrison (in 2nd half) off, possibly going for the win, and consequently left a gaping whole through the middle.
So there goes a chance of top two and probably home final, and a must win now against Waitak. To even make 4th.
A draw will be enough to stay on 4th with a win maybe moving us to 3rd.
could be his last game in charge if fail to qualify for play-offs.
I think KB has a two year contract so still a year to go.

Unsure if Marsland and Bacon should be called imports as both were already in ChCh. I think Ken Yamamato headed back to Auckland (only flew back today) due to his University studies, his family still lives in ChCh.
Yea amazing how some kids throw their toys and have a tanty because they don't get things their own way. Fact is KB as the most successful coach Canterbury has had gets to call the shots as he sees it period. We're still in with a crack in the evenest league for a long time.

Re KB coaching record:
Statistics are like bikinis. What they reveal is suggestive, what they conceal is vital.
A 5o% winning stat tells you NOTHING about minimum performance standard and expectations, quality of opposition, style and patterns of play, player development etc
I suppose the key question for the dragons board is: Do you think a 50% win record is good, bad or indifferent for a football community of this size (2nd or 3rd largest in nz?). Haven't the stated objectives consistently been O-league qualification?
The stat AW posted may reflect well on Keith in relation to Danny and korosh but tells me nothing else.

I love bikinis. Don't know what you've got against them. I'd like to put something against some bikinis.

Here was I, making a comment on a statistically vapid analysis of Keith's coaching posted by AW, and you going taking the piss and saying you want to make your mark on bikinis. I was only thinking of the football, honest.

IMO not eligible for new zealand = import

From the outside looking in, Keith talks a big game but he has not delivered. If you tell everyone you are aiming for the stars, and fall short, you will be viewed as a failure.
Grumpy old bastard alert
And remember Monsef and Halligan were only competing against '2 strong' teams whereby Keith has struck at least 4 competitive teams in the past couple of years.
Please don't remind me of the Monsef and Halligan years they were certainly promoted to their level of incompetence - some direction to their adult players would have been fantastic....

Some may lament such a win ratio.
Actually, I think a 50.72% win ratio (+ 17.39 % draw) isn't too bad.
After Ferguson, Wenger is the most successful manager in English football of the last 17 years - and his win ratio in that period (to October 2013) is 57.9 %.
Arsenal historically are one of England's top clubs right? And yet Wenger is the only post-war Gunners manager to win more than half of his games.
http://www.arsenal.com/news/features/behind-the-numbers-wenger-s-17-years
The difference of course is that Braithwaite hasn't won anything yet - but he's only been in charge for five seasons compared to Wenger's 17. Any manager who has a 50% or greater win ratio in any league deserves a chance to carry on beyond five seasons.
Mourinho at Chelsea is also in his fifth season in charge and as at October 2013 had an amazing 76% win percentage with Chelsea - but that's pretty rare anywhere in world football:
https://twitter.com/chelseafc/status/395138450657001472
Alex Ferguson's win percentage at Man Utd was 59.67% and only five other managers (of the 19 not counting Moyes) in the club's 122 year history have a 50% or better win percentage.
Moyes currently has a 55.26% win percentage from 38 competitive games (W:27 D:7 L:10) which understandably is seen as poor compared to Ferguson since the side lie only seventh on the EPL table after 26 games.

A lot depends on how much money a franchise has to throw around on players - Auckland and Waitakere must have simply had much more to play with. I don't know how Canterbury United's budget compares but they've never been able to attract many decent players from outside the region since the franchise-based league started in 2004 and until this season generally avoided foreign imports (apart from the one Solomon Islander a season).
To my mind, Wellington are the big under-achievers with their population base and access to Phoenix youth prospects etc.
I suppose Christchurch United and Mount Wellington dominated the national league 1970 - 1992 because they had more money than other sides, as well as the best coaches. They would bring out top imports like Sumner, Almond, McClure and attract good players from other NZ clubs like Wooddin, Keith Nelson, Grant Turner etc.

Freeview EPG has Waitakere v Canterbury scheduled for Tues 25th 7pm.
Tuesday's not the best as it's a long time to hold on and avoid the result. They have been screening all Waitakere's home games mostly on Monday nights until now. Sommet respond to requests on their Facebook page, so:
Suggest people contact Sommet Sport on their Facebook to encourage them to screen the game on Sunday or Monday:

I enjoy Aaron Clapham's Twitter probably more than I enjoy his football.
I particularly enjoyed this:
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
Don't forget to ask Sommet Sports on their Facebook to move the game v Waitakere forward to Sunday or Monday from the originally scheduled Tuesday broadcast. It will never be live - but the shorter delay the better I say!
Some feedback from Sommet suggests an earlier broadcast is possible:

Kamo pulled one back but finished 3 - 1 to Waitakere. No play-offs this season.

So now I return to my theme of earlier in the week. Are we actually progressing under Keith? Is it time for a re-think. I reckon other franchises are moving ahead and we are pretty much treading water. On this seasons results: actually backwards. And look at the youth league. Nelson unbeaten, canterbury nowhere.
Kotahitanga. We are one.
... No doubting Keith's desire and I'm sure he's going all he can. But now it's time to ask, is there anyone else who could do a better job?
Kotahitanga. We are one.
Losing against Waibop and drawing with Wanderers in the first 2 games - 5 points lost, is where Canterbury must really be kicking themselves. I was not comfortable after these 2 results but 2 weeks ago thought we had done enough.
I am sure all involved with Canterbury United right through to board level will be taking a long hard look at the season.
