Nah, I was sitting down in the front row in a red jacket. You possibly heard me yelling encouragement at both keepers. Neutral colours since I would have been happy with either team winning.

I heard a few of the chants and thought 'Oh yeah Hogg should be in the All Whites' but there is a small matter of Smith and Lochhead ahead of him. They probably forget that. Some the chants were humourous and tongue in cheek but making reference to Australia, A League and Terry, I don't understand the point when none of it relates to the Premiership.. or so ACFC fas would have you believe.

5-1 to ACFC. Imray wasn't bad as keeper. Koprovics (2 goals) & Hogg on form. Luis Corrales non stop.

Only thing keeping TW in the match. I remember seeing him at the Chatham Cup final last year and he was red-hot then too.

Thank you! I was a defender and hope I can still spot a good keeper. Imray was fantastic even though he had little help from his centre back pair; Whelan is OK for a short centre back but for goodness sake he's El Capitan, why doesn't he scream his lungs out and organise his back four like we used to back in the day? And as for the City fans chants; Spoonley for All Whites; haha..what a joke. Spoonley is the silent type too (is there a worse no no in a keeper?), he made a complete hash of more than one clearance, and did you see he when he came for that cross in the first half; LOL he was more stranded than the Marie Celsete!

Hogg has a future, really needs to have a few trials, but would be sad to lose him.
As for A-League/Terry chants, while Wgtn is in town, poking fun at anything Wgtn related is fair game. Is there really '$8 in Terry's bank account'?

Hogg has a future; yes for sure, as so do many other players his age - what is he now 23? But he has a chip on his shoulder IMO- maybe he bears the burden of his old man being booted out of the 82 All Whites by Fallon. And he is a Grammar boy as well; pride and privilege is sometimes backed with a bad attitude. Look the boy has talent to burn for goodness sake; left footed with pace and good aggression for a defender - sheesh wish that was me back in the day. But attitude folks; his is a bit wonky IMO. And that's why a kid like Michael Fitzgerald can come out of nowhere and play for Ricki. That kid has the right attitude with a capital RA.

Auckland City dominated the game and well done to Stu Jacobs admitting that City are just far too good. Wellington keeper was outstanding, one of the best performances ive seen in the league despite conceeding 5. Hogg was brilliant again, we all know if people speak bad of him on hear its more of a personal issue. The spanish boys were different class. I havent seen too many Wellington games this year but i think it may be time for them to start fresh. Alot of players there have been around the traps a while and the team looks quite stale. Thoughts? You have a good coach so dont need to change it there.

I can see that side, but as I said, if ACFC think that "Who the hell is Serepisos?" "You're just a town full of Aussies" and "We support a KIWI team" are appropriate when playing TW (if they were playing Nix A I could see the point), they are setting up ACFC fandom as opposed to Nix fandom, cutting them off from people like me who were never interested in football fandom until the Nix came along

Yes, Ali Syed says that's the first installment of the $150 million.

Unfortunately not true.Stu has finished now so new coach for TW.
Imray has been class all year ;kept them in many games virtually single-handedly.

Punch!  Punch!

Of course the irony is that some of them were the ring leaders of the vocal support for the Kingz and Knights but it was all okay when it was Auckland based teams failing.  Now it's a Wellington based side doing well they are a blight on the game...

To be fair, I have more respect for Jordybean since he said that he opposed the Kings/Knights as well.

Not sure how we all know if people speak bad of him on hear (sic) its more of a personal issue. I only know what my eyes have seen many times since watching Hogg while he was at school; its not personal at all. I think the lad is a wonderful talent and he was very good yesterday, but not brilliant IMO. In the past his talent has always been corrupted by acts of violence on the pitch and verbal abuse of officials. If he can sort that out (and I think the signs are there), then yes he will kick on. But theres no way RH will pick him unless he does. I totally agree that TW looked stale especially in the middle of the park, but Cain and Tade were lively. I heard Calcott is going to be the coach in 2011/2012. Is that wide of the mark? Toffeeman662011-03-28 11:10:07

Also all the same arguments should apply to when there was a side in Auckland.

Were nzfc attendances dropping in Auckland and across the country then too? From memory,no.

The loss of ickle Mikey Eager has been huge.  Some good young midfielders coming on but no one who does what Eager does.

That small group of fans in the stand with their chants were a joke. Made a bad game for TW fun to watch.
Thou the Dalmatians in front of us were better informed with their football and funny to listen too.

The two up the back were me and the above poster.
That fan group was a joke. Singing chants about the Phoenix and Terry at an NZFC game had no relevance.
Plus, they are all I'll informed about the A-league and are obviously bitter about the fact they lost it, twice.
They also started on English football chants.
Got pictures of them too.

Oh yeah... Town full of Aussies? Okay, fair enough but if the knightz were still going you would have the same amount of Aussies in there too.
Very bitter group of ex pats.

Auckland city chants-
"town full of Asians!"
"you're "not paid", your not professional"
"all whites, all whites last resort" - spoonley
"wheres you A-league gone?"
"not good enough for Phoenix!" - Mully

And wig the Hogg issue. I don't think he would have been such a standout in that game if our right side was so sh*t and practically nOn existent at times.

Anyway. Its good to back back in an A-League city.

Ps. NZ football helped you guys out by changing the start time so you could have your players back in time (spoonley being the only one who played).
NZ football offered to help the Phoenix out if it got in trouble.
Did the Knightz turn down their offer from NZ football? Or did they also think they were a joke too.

Makes a change watching 2 or 3 people chanting for their team. Instead of the normal 1000 odd in YF zone.

The hardhat with light came in handy watching the little people at the 'coalface' playing football.
Being that they don't get paid to play in an amateur league.

When i was down in Welly for the AW-Bahrain match no TW fans were chanting at their game. I then asked one of their supporters why this was. He replied "It isn't really important enough to chant at, it's more a place to relax rather than take it too seriously".

Only been to one TW game in Wgtn, was curious about the no chanting thing.  Sounds like it's died out.
Being serious, it's really important we support our Kiwi teams.  We can't grow a successful football nation without a successful local league.  We can't rely on the A-League to always be there, same thing for the Nix.   But one thing we can always provide is a Kiwi league for our players to show their best.

Why, oh why, would any kind of singing and chanting at a football game be bad???? Would you prefer to sit in silence and watch the game? Those guys aren't swearing or anything - it's just good passionate banter/support. I couldn't believe it when I went to my first away game (Fred Taylor Park) and found the ACFC fans to be the only ones singing! You'd hardly even know the WUFC fans were there.

If only we could all have some faith in the ASB Premiership then we wouldn't need to be chasing some kind of Aussie dream. It's the same in other sports too - basketball, League etc. How much coverage/support do the local leagues get... Not a lot which is sad.

It's not a population thing either - Scotland has a population of not much more than NZ but do you see their football matches attended by a few hundred silent people - I think not.

It's time for NZ to believe in it's own leagues - maybe the A-league won't be around for long anyway...

The owners just don't believe in the current model of the A-League and many of them are not sure that the competition can survive,'' Bleiberg said.

And if New Zealand could sustain professional leagues in any sport other than rugby, then your "faith" might mean something.

And sustaining the domestic rugby professional competition isn't exactly a walk in the park for the NZRFU. But some people just have no clue.

On the subject of chants - get a grip Max. When you go into someone else's ground, they'll always do their best to wind you up, and by the sound of it they did a very successful job at it. Fair game, no need to cry about it.el grapadura2011-03-29 10:20:27

Here's a couple of thoughts then.

1) If everyone who goes the Phoenix games went to their local NZ club games = lots more people supporting NZ football. Seriously - is the quality of the football at the phoenix that much better than ASB?... I don't think so.

2) If the herald/radio sport/TV/media in general gave some coverage of the ASB premiership instead of the A-League then maybe people who are interested in football might realise that there is a national league and maybe attend a game or two.

Which bring me back to my point about anti-Nix chants at ASBPrem games being self-defeating.

Let's not go over there again - ASB a quality competition? Really? Some games are barely above the Central League level.

And why point the finger at Wellington? In a city twice the size of Wellington (and I'm being generous here) you struggle to get much better numbers to games than Teedubs down here? Is that Phoenix's fault too?

PS. Love the media conspiracy btw. Clearly ASB would average 30k per game if only the papers occasionally printed a story about the competition.

1.  Yes- A mile better. A completely different class of football.  The Phoenix never existed until 3 years into the NZFC.  Those people never went then so why would they suddenly go now?

2. Likewise.  This nirvana where media will suddenly give more column inches to the National league without the Phoenix has no justification.  None of these organisations give less coverage to local football now than they did before the existence of an NZ side in Australian competition.  In fact in Wellington the sport in general gets a lot more media coverage thanks to the Phoenix.

You appear to have been brainwashed by revisionists... or have only discovered football since the Phoenix existed.

Somewhat covered by EG, but I can't be bothered editing.

Doesn't the Herald usually run stories on the ASB Prem, anyway? Or is that just on the website?
