I would quite like ACFC to get humped so the knitting circle can stop trying to claim that the ASBP is close to A-league quality

Is anyone actually claiming that?

They have said that some players are up to A-League level haven't they, possibly fair.

4-0 to CCM

4-0 to CCM? Someone doesn't know their football.

It's half-time way out west in the wild blue yonder, and it's 2-1 Auckland, who've come from behind to enjoy this advantage, taking the lead just before the half-time whistle.

Cheers,

Sounds like ACFC are doing well,  @Bozman19 Feneridis scores right on halftime after great play by Exposito. 2-1 City at half time.

Full-time, 3-1 City.

Exposito pen, Feneridis, Tade after Bozancic put CCM in front

I'm surprised the Mariners even got that close to the 5th best club team in the World.

The Mariners didn't exactly hold back either.
Nicely satisfied & thanks to the Croatian hosts who spent much of the day bringing everything together.

Glad someone was reading my tweets, thought I was talking to myself there

Even first half, maybe shaded by City. First goal from a penalty won by Hogg, may have been going down before he was clipped but clumsy challenge from behind regardless.

2nd goal Exposito put Feneridis through and lovely finish.

Last goal nice interchange between McGeorge and Mulligan down the right flank and fell to Tade in the box who made space past the defender and slotted far post.

2nd half Mariners had the better of it no doubt, half a dozen corners at least, but lacking a finish. A lot of changes from both sides in the 2nd spell.

I think a bit of humility is in order here, they've put together good side and they are entitled to feel pretty pleased with themselves.

We don't like this result because it makes us look bad. Well we need to take that on the chin.

It's a pity that the way the league is structured, and the lack of a decent home ground, mean it will be difficult for ACFC to bridge the gap or enter the A-League.  Maybe in 10 years or so...

Went and watched.

In terms of possesion, it was 50-50 but when Auckland had it, they struggled to get it out of the back 4. They really played with patience though and focused on ball retnetion. Their two goals kinda came against the run of play. Penalty - dead set. Having said that, CCM spent more time in Aucklands half in both halfs but never made Spooney work. The goal they scored, I don't know how Spooney didn't save it, must have taken a deflection or a bounce and he only had one other save to make early in the 1st half. Otherwise, fair play to them, they won 3 - 1. The new Spanish guy they had (he was listed in the program as Andreu) was a nice footballer but I fear that Chad Coombes might be spending a bit of time on the bench. He looked ordinary at right back and his first touch also let him down a bit. He was also the only one to get booked for a typical Chad foul. It was a quite dumb.

On the flip side of that, I have never seen a team moan so much in my life. CCM complained about an obvious penalty and literally complained about every single decision, even the obvious ones. There was a foul right at the end where it was their striker on one of the Spaniards and he blatantly pushed him, then moaned when the free kick was given. On attitude alone, they didn't deserve to win.

Can someone tell me once again why Michael McGlinchy doesn't start in the All White midfield? He even played at right half today but he surely has to start for our country everytime. Just a class footballer. Never gave the ball away, make some cracking passes and was never caught in posession. How the hell he is playing in the A League is beyond me cause he is better than that!

They might have played man to man at the back but up front when Ivan and co had the ball, they used a sliding zone... He basically talks bollocks because they looked like they were trying and put out a near full strength team

I think ACFC would beat the Phoenix having seen both game on the the weekend. Thats really a sad indictment on the state of the Phoenix

It's not a pity.

ACFC (or at least the people behind ACFC) had the perfect opportunity to step up to the A-League five years ago when the Knights went under.

For reasons only known to themselves they didn't take it. They could have, they had plenty of time and opportunity (NZF were almost exclusively focused on finding new owners in Auckland until Terry finally stepped up and forced their hand).

I would love to see a second A-League franchise in NZ though, and despite the past history I still think Auckland would be the best place for it.

I don't feel sorry for ACFC (or Auckland in general), however, for not taking the opportunity when it was sitting there on a silver platter.

The pity is that the league needs significant financial input each year from individuals so ACFC, which is an actual football "club" (despite being recently created) never had the money.

Again a bit churlish to blame them for not having a backer with 2m a year to feed in, plus after the shambles at Nth Harbour and their own ground not being up to scratch is it any wonder they didn't go for it?  There was, and really is, no business case for an A-League team in Auckland without a new, rectangular, ground.  Auckland needs a 20k  seat stadium so bad it's not true, share with the warriors, Auckland NPC and an A-League team.  Would be brilliant but will never rhappen unfortunately.

Even now ACFC runs pretty much on CWC money

Two things to add to this.

1: ACFC would need to lose players because they would be well over the import quota. Danko, Dickinson, Andreu, Esposito, Albert, Angel, Tade, Corales, Feneridis.

2: Why would they play in that league? There team is all about giving spots to Kiwis.

Incidentally in both games against CCM, the Phoenix had more Kiwis on the field. (Paston, Lochhead, Brown, Bertos, Siggy vs Spooney, Vicelich, Coombes and Hogg)

Think Corrales and Danko while clearly imports have been here long enough that they would be residents like Daniel is for the Phoenix.

Herbert said Daniel play for 5 years in NZ.
Therefore he is eligable to play for the national team.

So Koprivcic isnt important for the import quote.
Feneridis is Kiwi.

So they have 6 Players.
Is it sure that Andreu signed for City?

How much player can be "import-players" in NZ?

you can take feneridis off the import as list he was born in Wellington, Danko came here as a 14 year old (is 30 now) and counts as a local (why else was he eligible to play for the NZ futsal team)  and I know 'they came on as  subs but shouldn't Adam McGeorge and Andrew Milne be on ACFC's kiwi list as well they got game time last night

You say they're all about giving spots to kiwis immediately after claiming 9 of them are imports... ?

Andreu is trialling at the moment with ACFC but I expect him to get an offer as he is Catalan and so is the Ramon Tribletuex (can't spell his name) the coach who has shown loyalty to Catalan players I must say

Good $hit Auckland. Obviously didn't see it but I'm guessing the attitude was pretty good. Good result to give our lads a kick up the arse as well. Should hopefully dispel the rumours that NO ASB players are a-league quality. More of these sort of fixtures would be good.

Good game, and even though I can't stand City, they did well and were well worth their victory. Had a quick chat to Disco Troy after the game- top man.

Disagree regarding the penalty- thought it was never a penalty. Thought City bossed the first half especially- although neither side made the keeper work too much. CCM struggled to get the ball and struggled to create too many chances. Zwaanswijk is awesome. Reads the game like a book. Bojic and Porter on the right side of the defence was reasonably average. Griffiths was really good too.

For City, don't think there was a bad player out there. Played it to a tee and were happy to concede their superior first half possession as they knew Mariners weren't too threatening, and City held the lead.

All in all, enhorabuena a la Ciudad!

(Also, had a chat to one of the Spanish lads about Atleti after the game when he saw me in my shirt- class)
