Looks like Mason Stearn will be running out for Christchurch United, and understand that Coastal have signed Yusaf Van Dam (Cashmere Technical) as Stearn's replacement.
Coastal released their linup for the Selwyn game (weirdly early) tomorrow and Stearn wasn't mentioned so that about confirms it I reckon

Yes, understand Coastal have also 'signed' another player from a local Southern League Club, and more 'signings' likely to be heading out to Yaldhurst Road.

Rico Pradhan (Chch Utd) and Ilan Mastrocola-Simon (Nelson Suburbs) both named on the bench for Coastal today. Clearly not happy with their results first two games and have made moves.

What's the rules around transfers? I get it's not professional football but aren't there supposed be signing periods? Seems weird to me that people can just come and go as they please

3 wins - 14 scored 2 conceded - and it's only round 3. Cashmere are really running through the league at the moment

Transfers allowed up to June, but generally only allowed to play for two teams in the one season.

Was a tight battle in the opening half and stayed that way up until the 68th minute before Rory Hibbert (ex Northern) bagged his second goal to double the lead, then completed the first hat-trick of the league this season five minutes later with two goal late in the game blowing the scoreline out.

Dunno what it is about Nomads, but they seem incapable of having a good start to the season. They've lost the opening fixture of the season all 5 years they've been in the Southern League, losing 3 of those 3-0.
Toughest fixture list so far has to be Selwyn (Cashmere, Chch Utd & Coastal)

That puts Northern 3rd after three games. Out of all the promoted clubs this year Northern is definitely off to the best start

Wanaka were also in third place last season after three games, two wins (one at Home over Cashmere Technical) and a loss, like Northern.

Whats wrong with Mainland Football website and tribe? can't see goalscorers/subs, and no lineups for Coastal v Suburbs too
Similar issues for the last 3 Northern League matches.
Still struggling with Tribe, not sure if it is still the link with NZF? Lots of wrong scores on the day and now it doesn't show substitutions for some reason.

Last season that's when they won the Southern prems, where they won promotion to the Southern League and more recently had their first game against Nomads. So yeah fun times.AllWhites82 wrote:Sounds great, means it will be on the telly.AllWhites82 wrote:Looks like Northern vs. Wanaka now a Logan Park, via Northern's facebook post.
Round 3 fixtures split over 2 days over Easter Weekend (note for some of Canterbury sides Round 1 of English Cup being played on Monday)

Coastal Spirit vs. Selwyn - Tane Norton Park
5:00pm
Christchurch United vs. Nomads - United Sports Centre
Saturday
1:30pm
Nelson Suburbs vs. Dunedin City Royals - Saxton Fields
Sunday

Northern vs. Wanaka - Caledonian Ground
Is it just me, but having one camera in Dunedin at Logan Park, and then Royals play at Tahuna and Northern at Caledonian not make a lot of sense?
We had to watch the Bet365 live updates of “dangerous attack” and “goal” on the weekend and it was shithouse.
Thoughts?
I can't really speak to the camera situation but I would prefer if Northern played at the Caledonian and Royals played at Tahuna. Just a better experience for those going in person, which at the end of the day that's who these games are for.
Based on what you said I assume there's only one camera down in Dunedin between Northern and the Royals?
My jist is yes it's great having a camera in Dunedin, but it appears that it's at a venue that is neither the Royals or Northern's home ground.
One is indeed better than none, but it is the same result with it not being on Fifa+.

I think it is coming from the new site clubs and referees are using. Having switched from COMET to Sporty, I've noticed errors, issues and double ups of same scorers.
I'm an optimistic pessimist.
I'm positive things will go wrong.

If they're gonna move every Northern game to Logan Park then why not make it official instead of switching just a few days out each week?

Good question, only discovered this when checking the draw for any changes last night.

Not going well for CU. If Coastal finish top 2 and CU finish somewhere around the midtable could CU lose their qualification spot for the 2027 national league to coastal?

Yes, if United finishes behind Cashmere Technical and 2 or more places behind Coastal, they will miss the 2027 NL

Depends on the criteria for qualification exactly but yes. If it is based on points scored (which is what I'd use), Coastal need to finish 16+ points ahead of Chch Utd to gain direct qualification.
Playoffs should be a lock, as Nelson are next closest and would need to finish 35 points ahead.

It’s not done on points exactly, it’s on positions as I understand it, and it’s weighted year on year.
From what I’ve been told, this years first place gets (let’s use this as an example as I’m not super understanding of this bit) ten points, 2nd place 9 etc… same for the past 4 years. Those annual points are then weighted by 50% for 2026, 40% for 2025 etc.
That gives an average score for 5 years, although weighted.
Andrew Voerdman had a mega excel spreadsheet on one of the threads, I’d love to hear the fella who wrote the excellent book on national league’s take on this too.
Is this right?
