Looks like a couple players that were in the Wanaka wider squad, Garbriel Varrica and John Phan are now at DC Royals. Varrica started today, with Phan coming into the game off the bench - it was the first minutes in the SL for both players.
Big performance from Nelson - 6-0 dominance over Selwyn. Shows both teams weren't where they will finish up yet this season. If Nelson improve on the road they can still be a force!
And the big result of the day... Ferrymead moving into the top two with a 2-1 come from behind win at Coastal! Wow! At 3 down to Northern and 5 down to United/Spirit they're looking a real smokey to qualify for the NL. Fair play some great results so far
Mac P popping up at Bays now! Was one who came up through United's system then went over to Aus for a bit to have a go with Sydney FC. Knew he was back but heading over to Bays is news.

Yes, believe he was back at United and then signed for Bays the other week but United would not release him before the League game between United and Bays the other week
Had to share a bit of Tom Schwarz scoring from halfway for Cashmere Technical in the Southern League... the veteran centre-back went on to score a hat-trick in a 6-0 win vs Northern pic.twitter.com/kQHkvnNlpK

Yes, Tom is closing in on 100 goals for Cashmere Technical - now well over 90, not a back return for a defender.

Helps that he's played many a game - has to be up around 350 now.

Finally, I have returned to Dunedin. Picked up at 6:40am to attend Christchurch vs Northern. Roughly 10 of us were up there supporting Northern and it was a great time (exhausting as it was).
Christchurch felt like the more composed team and held most of the possession but they always slowed things down quite a lot and weren't willing to shoot very often, just trying to find the best possible opening rather than taking risks.
Northern fought well imo. What they lack in technical ability compared to opposing teams they make up for in grit and determination, especially when they have the rest of us cheering them on.
Would've loved a win but after what happened last week against Cashmere a draw is certainly an improvement, especially considering our away record. Good time all around, got into a few of the Christchurch players heads but it was chill after the game ended. Slava Meyn was there apparently and sent someone to let us know he loved the energy we brought and I recall the CU bench expressing similar feelings. (Very tired so forgive me if the CU guys weren't very happy and I'm misconstruing it.)
By the way the Christchurch United coach got a red card after the game ended. I'm not sure of the specifics but I'll take an educated guess and say it was because he confronted the ref for not allowing United to take their corner and simply ending the game.

Tech seem to be doing things in a canter, banging in goals for fun and easily dispatching anyone they play! Is Bays the biggest surprise package this year?? I'm not sure many would have had them where they are? With Selwyn, Nomads and Nelson to finish the round could they be the front runners for National league if they win 2 of those? Considering United have Coastal, Tech and Nelson. Coastal have Northern, Tech and United

There's a very real chance that one of Coastal or United could get 0 points from their next 3 games

When time is up, time is up, with the only exception of time extended is for a penalty to be taken.
With a third of the season* gone a few 'take outs' (18 game season*)
Northern now sitting on 10 points from just 6 games which means that they have more points than FC Twenty 11 - 7pts, secured from 36 SL games and Mosgiel - 9pts, from 18 SL games. No team has been relegated that have reached double digits
Cashmere Technical now match their best start to the season with 18 points, but goals wise best yet with 35 For - 2 Against - compared to 29 - 3
Ferrymead Bays continue on with their best start to a season with 15 points, previous best - 10
Christchurch United now with their worst start to a season with 8 points, previous worst - 15 - for the first time ever United have not featured in the 'top 3' on the table so far this season
Nelson Suburbs now with their worst start to a season with 6 points, previous worst - 7
Dunedin City Royals now with their worst start to a season with 5 points, previous worst - 7
15 Clean sheets - Technical leading the way on 4, Bays 3, Northern 2, United, Coastal, Royals, Suburbs, Nomads and Selwyn all on 1, Wanaka 0
Games scored - Technical and Coastal 6, Bays and Selwyn 5, United, Suburbs Nomads, Northern and Wanaka 5, Royals 3
Northern vs Coastal is a 6-pointer that could help us get an idea of who's contending for Ferrymead's spot, assuming there's a winner.
Wanaka vs Royals (kind of) bottom of the table clash so maybe something interesting can happen there.
Cashmere vs Christchurch will realistically be another Cashmere sweep so if you want goals this'll be the game to watch. But it's also a matchup between the only 2-time SL winners so there's some prestige in the matchup there.
Nelson vs Nomads is kind of intriguing in it's own right given how both have been improving since the early rounds (yes I know Nelson just got rolled by Cashmere but at this point those results are outliers in a teams season).
