Nothing about the win on Newshub.  One news had a photo of Team Wellington winning but was more around the successful sporting weekend for the capital.

Disappointing but hardly surprising of the media here.

You see this crap? Right here? This is why, even though I live an easy cycle away from Kiwitea Street, is why I can never find it in me to back ACFC.

Well yeah, a reasonable person would expect higher quality football to get more coverage. You guys aren't even the 2nd best team in the country any more.

I think what really chaps the ACFC Knitting Circle's gears is that, if not for the Phoenix, people like Moss, Ridenton, Fenton etc. would either be playing overseas, or be susceptible to under-the-table pokie-money-based "shamateur" offers from ACFC.  Given that, who's the "parasite" on NZ football?

I'm all for a higher local player quota in the soon-to-be Handa Premiership to shut down this bullshark.

The quality on display in that final was way above anything I personally have seen in the national league in a long time.

The absolute focus for the league has to be bringing back the crowds -  I think it's the one thing that is lacking right now.

Watching the highlights - hilarious hearing the very audible high pitched screams from Auckland players "Refffff" ... "Offsiddeeeeeeee!!!" ... and even "How is that not offside?!?!?" once the ball went out.

Well done linesman.

And also well done to NZF.  Getting this on TV has I think improved the visbility of the league no end.  I have speculated before but I wonder whether it helps with sponsorship and recuritment?  More value to the front of the shirt if it's on sky each week

On TV and on YouTube, crucially, for those of us who can't afford Sky because we are saving up to buy a house, or even eat, in Auckland.

Being able to see all the goals from the games doesn't seem like much but it's a huge step forwards really.

Roll on next season.

Somewhat amusingly that Jose got the archer by Hudson because he didn't play the type of football he wanted (debatable), and then goes on to coach TeeDubs to the title in his first year while playing some arousing football and scoring a bizillion goals. Something Hudson has struggled to do.

It's never quite made sense to me what JF and PT did or didn't do that Hudson' didn't like.

Same with why Ole players weren't welcome, or weren't allowed to join them (or was that tied into FTC->NTC issues?)

amazing really

jose's tactics are very bold. it's almost like he's determined to get as many attackers on the field as possible

and with the game poised, he bought hailemariam on for schrijvers!

Schrivers was injured wasn't he? And they dropped Margetts back there to allow Hailemariam to stay forward.

Wasn't Danny quite critical of Hudson at the start? Maybe Hudson was trying to get him in the tent? The whole thing never really added up.

Was also AC fans around me (I moved ends at HT, both times sat near salty AC fans (by accident)) that were adamant they'd been robbed by that "offside goal". Comments like "the best team on the park the whole match and one decision like that costs you the title" were classic!

Fuck this stupid game

I used to rag on Jose a lot for years but I saw what he did with a young Central side and the style they played and I gave him credit. He has then gone to the next level and won again and not once mentioned why he got axed by Hudson. I am sure he knows but has held a dignified silence on it.

ACFC can't blame anyone really. They simply were not good enough in that game and there are no errors to blame on anyone else except themselves. I'm glad Tade lost cause he is just a punk that needs a pop in the mouth.

I know a guy who works with Stirling Sports on advertising and he said they were ready to leverage the hell out of their sponsorship next season, but Handa came in with an offer above what they or other local outfits were proposing.

So are Stirling Sports still involved with it? I get there is more money from Handa but these guys stepped up 1st. Seems a shame

Just watched a replay of the game and congrats to TW they looked fitter and faster than ACFC to many players in City looked slow and tired the back four are poor and the keeper i hate to think he's getting paid. Iike Jeff Vader i'm happy they lost because Tade although he is there best player  is a nob. They had no plan B maybe time for Ramon to move on

The competitions review today refers to a major sponsors (Handa) and a secondary sponsor - maybe them? I think I've seen A Martin mention they're still involved?

This is outstanding.

Add it in with the knitting circle turning back up on our forums and it's easy to see how some (not all)  Auckland supporters make it so hard for others to like their team.

Just experienced this first-hand today.

My lecturer for one of my business papers is an avid Auckland City fan.

He made the complaint that the final wouldn't be televised on the news, but the Phoenix game probably would, and that the Phoenix sucked all attention away from the 'real football' in New Zealand. His argument that they were playing in an Australian league so why are they getting all the attention? And what do we do for NZ Football?

He then talked about how several of his mates had left these forums due to the 'anti-Auckland-City sentiment' as he suspects Phoenix fans are jealous they can't qualify for a Club World Cup and that our trophy cabinets are empty compared to their's.

It was interesting that he made the claim that the Phoenix fans were the jealous fans, after he had complained about how we got too much media attention compared to them??? There's a lot more I could refute but I digress.

The seemingly anti-Phoenix atmosphere of Auckland City games makes me want to steer clear of City games...

It is a shame these attitudes exist.  I think they are forgetting that the media are hardly going to scramble to cover the National League if the Phoenix cease to exist.  What did they say about the Football Kingz or the Knights?  We all love the sport and should put aside these differences to ensure the sport grows.

The only media doing a decent job of covering games is Fairfax, they actually send journos to games and do prefer match interviews etc - NZHs new content model has seen some of their football journos leave and they've pared down their sports desk. There'll be a cursory mention of games having happened and a printed fixtures/results section but anything more than that doesn't generate the clicks they're looking for now.

OneNews covered TeeDubs the night before the final but if they don't have a video package to roll out then they're not going to give a few minutes to a still image. Newshub even had a report implying they had highlights but they never got added to the page, as did One News Sport - both pulled their text from NZ Newswire.

The Nix get more coverage because there's more instantly available content, professionally packaged and able to be churned out. Rugby gets the coverage because of similar, it's easier to get hold of - Super Rugby clubs have a good set up and a lot of the ex-pros are involved in Sky and comment, something you don't get on football in NZ. Not many articles by Harry Ngata out there.

There was a decent coverage of the Kingz/Knights for the time, a quick Google search will show the Herald used to do regular columns covering them - but no-pro, no go.
